And it came to pass, when he had finished to speak unto Saul, the soul of Jonathas was joined fast to the soul of David, & Jonathas loved him as his soul.ANd it came to passe, when he had finished to speake vnto Saul, the soule of Ionathas was ioyned fast to the soule of Dauid, & Ionathas loued him as his soule.✦Et factum est cum complesset loqui ad Saul, anima Jonathæ conglutinata est animæ David, et dilexit eum Jonathas quasi animam suam.
2And Saul took him in that day, and did not grant unto him to return into his father's house.And Saul tooke him in that day, and did not grant vnto him to returne into his fathers house.Tulitque eum Saul in die illa, et non concessit ei ut reverteretur in domum patris sui.
3And David and Jonathas entered a foedus: a covenant, a sworn alliance, not a unit of distance: for he loved him as his soul.And Dauid and Ionathas entered a league: for he loued him as his soule.Inierunt autem David et Jonathas fœdus : diligebat enim eum quasi animam suam.

5And David also went forth to all things wheresoever Saul sent him, & he behaved himself wisely: and Saul placed him over the men of war, and he was accepted in the eyes of all the people, and specially in the eyes of Saul's servants.And Dauid also went forth to al thinges wheresoeuer Saul sent him, & he behaued him self wisely: and Saul placed him ouer the men of warre, and he was accepted in the eies of al the people, and specially in the eies of Saules seruantes.Egrediebatur quoque David ad omnia quæcumque misisset eum Saul, et prudenter se agebat : posuitque eum Saul super viros belli, et acceptus erat in oculis universi populi, maximeque in conspectu famulorum Saul.

10And a day after, the evil spirit of God invaded Saul, and he prophesied in the midst of his house. And David played with his hand at every day. 17And Saul said to David: Behold my elder daughter Merob, her will I give thee to wife, only be thou a valiant man, and fight the battles of our Lord. 19And it came to pass, at what time, Merob the daughter of Saul should have been given to David, she was given to Hadriel the Molathite to wife.And it came to passe, at what time, Merob the daughter of Saul should haue beene geuen to Dauid, she was geuen to Hadriel the Molathite to wife.Factum est autem tempus cum deberet dari Merob filia Saul David, data est Hadrieli Molathitæ uxor.

22And Saul commanded his servants: Speak to David secretly out of my presence, saying: Behold thou pleasest the King, and all his servants love thee. But I am a poor man, and of small tenuis: means, substance, not skill.And the seruantes of Saul spake al these wordes in the eares of Dauid. And Dauid sayd: Doth it seme vnto you a smal matter to be the sonne in lawe of a King? But I am a poore man, and of smal abilitie.Et locuti sunt servi Saul in auribus David omnia verba hæc. 24And the servants of Saul reported, saying: These manner of words hath David spoken.And the seruantes of Saul reported, saying: These maner of wordes hath Dauid spoken.Et renuntiaverunt servi Saul dicentes : Hujuscemodi verba locutus est David.
25And Saul said: Speak thus to David: The king needeth no dowry, but only an hundred praeputia: foreskins of the Philisthians, that revenge may be made of the king's enemies. Moreover Saul thought to deliver David into the hands of the Philisthians.And Saul sayd: Speake thus to Dauid: The king nedeth no dowrie, but only an hundred prepuces of the Philistians, that reuenge may be made of the kinges enemies. Moreouer Saul thought to deliuer Dauid into the handes of the Philistians.✦Dixit autem Saul : Sic loquimini ad David : Non habet rex sponsalia necesse, nisi tantum centum præputia Philisthinorum, ut fiat ultio de inimicis regis. 26And when his servants had reported to David the words that Saul had said, the word was liked in the eyes of David, to be made the king's son in law.And when his seruantes had reported to Dauid the wordes that Saul had sayd, the word was liked in the eies of Dauid, to be made the kinges sonne in lawe.Cumque renuntiassent servi ejus David verba quæ dixerat Saul, placuit sermo in oculis David, ut fieret gener regis.
27And after few days David rising up, went with the men that were under him, and he stroke of the Philisthiims two hundred men, and brought their prepuces, and numbered them to the King, that he might be his son in law, Saul therefore gave him Michol his daughter to wife.And after few dayes Dauid rising vp, went with the men that were vnder him, and he stroke of the Philistijms two hundred men, and brought their prepuces, and numbered them to the King, that he might be his sonne in lawe, Saul therefore gaue him Michol his daughter to wife.✦Et post paucos dies surgens David, abiit cum viris qui sub eo erant. 28And Saul saw, and understood that our Lord was with David. And Michol the daughter of Saul loved him.And Saul saw, and vnderstood that our Lord was with Dauid. 29And Saul began more to fear David: and Saul became enemy to David all days.And Saul began more to feare Dauid: and Saul became enemie to Dauid al daies.Et Saul magis cœpit timere David : factusque est Saul inimicus David cunctis diebus.
30And the princes of the Philisthians went forth: and from the beginning of their going forth, David behaved himself more wisely, then all the servants of Saul, and his name was made renowned exceedingly.And the princes of the Philistians went forth: and from the beginning of their going forth, Dauid behaued him self more wisely, then al the seruantes of Saul, and his name was made renowmed exceedingly.✦Et egressi sunt principes Philisthinorum.
