Samuel thrice called upon in sleep by vision from God, repaireth to Heli, 10. the fourth time our Lord revealeth to him the evil, that shall fall Heli, and his house. 15. Which he, being requested, declareth to Heli.Samuel thrise called vpon in sleepe by vision from God, repaireth to Heli, 10. the fourth time our Lord reueleth to him the euil, that shal fal Heli, and his house. 15. Which he, being requested, declareth to Heli.✦
And the child Samuel ministered to our Lord before Heli, and the word of our Lord was pretiosus: rare, seldom granted in those days, there was no vision manifest.AND the childe Samuel ministred to our Lord before Heli, and the word of our Lord was pretious in those dayes, there was no vision manifest.✦Puer autem Samuel ministrabat Domino coram Heli, et sermo Domini erat pretiosus in diebus illis : non erat visio manifesta.
It came to pass therefore on a certain day Heli lay in his place, and his eyes were become dim, neither could he see.It came to passe therfore on a certayne day Heli lay in his place, and his eies were become dimme, neither could he see.✦Factum est ergo in die quadam, Heli jacebat in loco suo, et oculi ejus caligaverant, nec poterat videre :
before the lamp of God was extinguished, Samuel slept in the temple of our Lord, where the ark of God was.before the lampe of God was extinguished, Samuel slept in the temple of our Lord, where the arke of God was.lucerna Dei antequam extingueretur, Samuel dormiebat in templo Domini, ubi erat arca Dei.
And our Lord called Samuel. Who answering, said: Lo here I am.And our Lord called Samuel. Who answering, said: Loe here I am.Et vocavit Dominus Samuel. Qui respondens, ait : Ecce ego.
And he ran to Heli and said: Lo here I am: for thou didst call me. Who said: I did not call thee: return and sleep. And he went and slept. And he ranne to Heli and said: Loe here I am: for thou didst cal me. Who said: I did not cal thee: returne and sleepe. And he went and slept.✦Et cucurrit ad Heli, et dixit : Ecce ego : vocasti enim me. Qui dixit : Non vocavi : revertere, et dormi. Et abiit, et dormivit.
And our Lord added again to call Samuel. And Samuel rising up went to Heli, and said: Lo here I am: because thou didst call me. Who answered: I did not call thee my son: return and sleep. And our Lord added agayne to cal Samuel. And Samuel rysing vp went to Heli, and said: Loe here I am: because thou didst cal me. Who answered: I did not cal thee my sonne: returne and sleepe.Et adjecit Dominus rursum vocare Samuelem. Consurgensque Samuel, abiit ad Heli, et dixit : Ecce ego, quia vocasti me. Qui respondit : Non vocavi te, fili mi : revertere et dormi.
Moreover Samuel did not yet know our Lord, neither had the word of our Lord been revealed to him.Moreouer Samuel did not yet know our Lord, neither had the word of our Lord bene reueled to him.✦Porro Samuel necdum sciebat Dominum, neque revelatus fuerat ei sermo Domini.
And our Lord added, and called Samuel yet the third time. Who rising up went to Heli,And our Lord added, and called Samuel yet the third time. Who rysing vp went to Heli,Et adjecit Dominus, et vocavit adhuc Samuelem tertio. Qui consurgens abiit ad Heli,
and said: Lo here I am: because thou didst call me. Heli therefore understood that our Lord called the child, and said to Samuel: Go, & sleep: & if he shall call thee hereafter, thou shalt say: Speak Lord, for thy servant heareth. Samuel therefore went & slept in his place.and said: Loe here I am: because thou didst cal me. Heli therfore vnderstood that our Lord called the childe, and said to Samuel: Goe, & sleepe: & if he shal cal thee hereafter, thou shalt say: Speake Lord, for thy seruant heareth. Samuel therfore went & slept in his place.✦et ait : Ecce ego, quia vocasti me.
And our Lord came, and stood: and he called, as he had called twice, Samuel, Samuel. And Samuel said: Speak Lord for thy servant heareth. And our Lord came, and stoode: and he called, as he had called twise, Samuel, Samuel. And Samuel said: Speake Lord for thy seruant heareth.✦Et venit Dominus, et stetit : et vocavit, sicut vocaverat secundo : Samuel, Samuel. Et ait Samuel : Loquere, Domine, quia audit servus tuus.
And our Lord said to Samuel: Behold I do a thing in Israel: which whosoever shall hear, both his ears shall tingle. And our Lord said to Samuel: Behold I doe a thing in Israel: which whosoeuer shal heare, both his eares shal tingle.✦Et dixit Dominus ad Samuelem : Ecce ego facio verbum in Israël, quod quicumque audierit, tinnient ambæ aures ejus.
In that day will I raise up against Heli all things which I have spoken touching his house: I will begin, and accomplish it.In that day wil I rayse vp against Heli al thinges which I haue spoken touching his house: I wil beginne, and accomplish it.In die illa suscitabo adversum Heli omnia quæ locutus sum super domum ejus : incipiam, et complebo.
For I have foretold him that I would judge his house for ever, because of iniquity, for that he knew that his sons did wickedly, and hath not corrected them. For I haue foretold him that I would iudge his house for euer, because of iniquitie, for that he knewe that his sonnes did wickedly, and hath not corrected them.✦Prædixi enim ei quod judicaturus essem domum ejus in æternum propter iniquitatem, eo quod noverat indigne agere filios suos, et non corripuerit eos.
Therefore have I sworn to the house of Heli, that the iniquity of his house cannot be expietur: atoned for, purged by sacrifice with victimis: sacrificial beasts slain in offering, not persons harmed and gifts for ever.Therfore haue I sworne to the house of Heli, that the iniquitie of his house can not be expiated with victimes and giftes for euer.✦Idcirco juravi domui Heli quod non expietur iniquitas domus ejus victimis et muneribus usque in æternum.
And Samuel slept until morning, and opened the doors of the house of our Lord. And Samuel feared to tell the vision unto Heli. And Samuel slept vntil morning, and opened the doores of the house of our Lord. And Samuel feared to tel the vision vnto Heli.Dormivit autem Samuel usque mane, aperuitque ostia domus Domini. Et Samuel timebat indicare visionem Heli.
Heli therefore called Samuel, and said: Samuel my son: Who answering said: Here I am.Heli therfore called Samuel, and said: Samuel my sonne: Who answering said: Here I am.Vocavit ergo Heli Samuelem, et dixit : Samuel fili mi ? Qui respondens ait : Præsto sum.
And he asked him: What is the word, that our Lord hath spoken to thee? I beseech thee conceal it not from me. These things do God to thee, and these do he add, if thou shalt hide from me a word of all the words, which were said to thee. And he asked him: What is the word, that our Lord hath spoken to thee? I beseech thee conceale it not from me. These thinges doe God to thee, and these doe he adde, if thou shalt hide from me a word of al the wordes, which were said to thee.✦Et interrogavit eum : Quis est sermo, quem locutus est Dominus ad te ? oro te ne celaveris me : hæc faciat tibi Deus, et hæc addat, si absconderis a me sermonem ex omnibus verbis quæ dicta sunt tibi.
Samuel therefore told him all the words, & did not hide them from him. And he answered: It is our Lord: let him do that which is good in his eyes.Samuel therfore told him al the wordes, & did not hide them from him. And he answered: It is our Lord: let him doe that which is good in his eies.Indicavit itaque ei Samuel universos sermones, et non abscondit ab eo. Et ille respondit : Dominus est : quod bonum est in oculis suis faciat.
And Samuel grew, and our Lord was with him, and there fell not of his words upon the ground. And Samuel grewe, and our Lord was with him, and there fel not of his wordes vpon the ground.✦Crevit autem Samuel, et Dominus erat cum eo, et non cecidit ex omnibus verbis ejus in terram.
And all Israel knew from Dan to Bersabee, that faithful Samuel was the prophet of our Lord. And al Israel knewe from Dan to Bersabee, that faithful Samuel was the prophet of our Lord.✦Et cognovit universus Israël, a Dan usque Bersabee, quod fidelis Samuel propheta esset Domini.
And our Lord added to appear in Silo, because our Lord had been revealed to Samuel in Silo, according to the word of our Lord. And the word of Samuel came to pass to all Israel. And our Lord added to appeare in Silo, because our Lord had bene reueled to Samuel in Silo, according to the word of our Lord. And the word of Samuel came to passe to al Israel.✦Et addidit Dominus ut appareret in Silo, quoniam revelatus fuerat Dominus Samueli in Silo juxta verbum Domini. Et evenit sermo Samuelis universo Israëli.
