Therefore the men of Cariathiarim came, and brought back the ark of our Lord, and carried it into the house of Abinadab in Gabaa: And Eleazar his son they sanctified, that he might keep the ark of our Lord.THEREFORE the men of Caria Thiarim came, and brought backe the arke of our Lord, and caried it into the house of Abinadab in Gaaba: And Eleazar his sonne they sanctified, that he might keepe the arke of our Lord.✦Venerunt ergo viri Cariathiarim, et reduxerunt arcam Domini, et intulerunt eam in domum Abinadab in Gabaa : Eleazarum autem filium ejus sanctificaverunt, ut custodiret arcam Domini.
2And it came to pass, from the day that the ark of our Lord abode in Cariathiarim the days were multiplied (for it was now the twentieth year) and all the house of Israel rested post: here in the sense of following, cleaving to, not later in time our Lord.And it came to passe, from the day that the arke of our Lord abode in Caria Thiarim the dayes were multiplied (for it was now the twentieth yeare) and al the house of Israel rested after our Lord.✦Et factum est, ex qua die mansit arca Domini in Cariathiarim, multiplicati sunt dies (erat quippe jam annus vigesimus), et requievit omnis domus Israël post Dominum.
3And Samuel spake to all the house of Israel, saying: If you turn to our Lord in all your heart, take away the alienos: foreign, of another nation, not odd gods out of the midst of you, Baalim, and Astaroth: and prepare your hearts to our Lord, and serve him only, and he will deliver you from the hand of the Philisthiims.And Samuel spake to al the house of Israel, saying: If you turne to our Lord in al your hart, take away the strange goddes out of the middes of you, Baalim, and Astaroth: and prepare your hartes to our Lord, and serue him only, and he wil deliuer you from the hand of the Philisthijms.✦Ait autem Samuel ad universam domum Israël, dicens : Si in toto corde vestro revertimini ad Dominum, auferte deos alienos de medio vestri, Baalim et Astaroth : et præparate corda vestra Domino, et servite ei soli, et eruet vos de manu Philisthiim.

6And they assembled into Masphath: and they drew water, and poured it out in the sight of our Lord, and they fasted that day, and said there: We have sinned to our Lord. 7And the Philisthiims heard that the children of Israel were gathered together into Masphath, and the princes of the Philisthiims went up to Israel. Which when the children of Israel had heard, they were afraid at the face of the Philisthiims.And the Philisthijms heard that the children of Israel were gathered together into Masphath, and the princes of the Philisthijms went vp to Israel. 8And they said to Samuel: cease not to cry to our Lord God for us, that he save us from the hand of the Philisthiims.And they sayd to Samuel: cease not to crie to our Lord God for vs, that he saue vs from the hand of the Philisthijms.Dixeruntque ad Samuelem : Ne cesses pro nobis clamare ad Dominum Deum nostrum, ut salvet nos de manu Philisthinorum.

12And Samuel took one stone, and laid it between Masphath and Sen: and he called the name of that place, The stone of help. And he said: Thus far hath our Lord auxiliatus est: helped (archaic past participle of help) us.And Samuel tooke one stone, and layd it betwen Masphath and Sen: and he called the name of that place, The stone of helpe. 13And the Philisthiims were humiliati sunt: subdued, brought low, neither added they any more to come into the borders of Israel. Therefore the hand of our Lord was made upon the Philisthiims, all the days of Samuel.And the Philisthijms were humbled, neither added they any more to come into the borders of Israel. 16and he went every year circuiens: going about, circuiting round Bethel and Galgala and Masphath, and judged Israel in the foresaid places.and he went euerie yeare circuing Bethel and Galgala and Masphath, and iudged Israel in the foresaid places.et ibat per singulos annos circuiens Bethel et Galgala et Masphath, et judicabat Israëlem in supradictis locis.
