In the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam, reigned Abias over Juda.IN the eightenth yeare of king Ieroboam, reigned Abias ouer Iuda.Anno octavodecimo regis Jeroboam, regnavit Abia super Judam.
2Three years reigned he in Jerusalem, and his mother's name was Michaia, the daughter of Uriel of Gabaa: there was war between Abias and Jeroboam.Three yeares reigned he in Ierusalem, and his mothers name was Michaia, the daughter of Vriel of Gabaa: there was warre betwen Abias and Ieroboam.✦Tribus annis regnavit in Jerusalem, nomenque matris ejus Michaia filia Uriel de Gabaa : et erat bellum inter Abiam et Jeroboam.
3And when Abias had begun battle, and had most warlike men, and of chosen ones four hundred thousand: Jeroboam put his army in array on the contrary side, eight hundred thousand men, who themselves also were chosen men, and most valiant to battles.And when Abias had begun battel, and had most warlike men, & of chosen ones four hundreth thousand: Ieroboam put his armie in aray on the contrarie side, eight hundreth thousand men, who them selues also were chosen men, and most valiant to battels.Cumque iniisset Abia certamen, et haberet bellicosissimos viros, et electorum quadringenta millia : Jeroboam instruxit econtra aciem octingenta millia virorum, qui et ipsi electi erant, et ad bella fortissimi.
4Abias therefore stood upon mount Semeron, which was in Ephraim, and said: Hear Jeroboam, and all Israel:Abias therfore stood vpon mount Semeron, which was in Ephraim, and sayd: Heare Ieroboam, and al Israel:✦Stetit ergo Abia super montem Semeron, qui erat in Ephraim, et ait : Audi, Jeroboam, et omnis Israël.
5Are you ignorant that our Lord the God of Israel gave the kingdom to David over Israel for ever, to him and his children as a covenant of salt?Are you ignorant that our Lord the God of Israel gaue the kingdom to Dauid ouer Israel for euer, to him and his children as a couenant of salt?✦Num ignoratis quod Dominus Deus Israël dederit regnum David super Israël in sempiternum, ipsi et filiis ejus in pactum salis ?
6And there rose up Jeroboam the son of Nabat, the servant of Salomon the son of David: and rebelled against his lord.And there rose vp Ieroboam the sonne of Nabat, the seruant of Salomon the sonne of Dauid: and rebelled agaynst his lord.Et surrexit Jeroboam filius Nabat, servus Salomonis filii David, et rebellavit contra dominum suum.
7And there were gathered to him all the most vanissimi: conceited, self-admiring; worthless, good-for-nothing men, and the children of Belial: and they prevailed against Roboam the son of Salomon: moreover Roboam was rudis: impolite; unskilled, untrained, raw, and of a fearful heart, and could not resist them.And there were gathered to him al the most vayne men, and the children of Belial: and they preuayled agaynst Roboam the sonne of Salomon: moreouer Roboam was rude, and of a fearful hart, and could not resist them.Congregatique sunt ad eum viri vanissimi, et filii Belial, et prævaluerunt contra Roboam filium Salomonis : porro Roboam erat rudis, et corde pavido, nec potuit resistere eis.

9And you have cast out the Priests of our Lord, the children of Aaron, and the Levites: and you have made you priests, as all the peoples of the earth: whosoever shall come and consecrate his hand in a bullock of oxen, and in seven rams, is made the priest of them that are not gods,And you haue cast out the Priestes of our Lord, the children of Aaron, and the Leuites: and you haue made you priestes, as al the peoples of the earth: whosoeuer shal come & consecrate his hand in a bullock of oxen, and in seuen rammes, is made the priest of them that are not goddes,✦Et ejecistis sacerdotes Domini, filios Aaron, atque Levitas, et fecistis vobis sacerdotes sicut omnes populi terrarum : quicumque venerit, et initiaverit manum suam in tauro de bobus, et in arietibus septem, fit sacerdos eorum qui non sunt dii.

11holocausta: whole burnt offerings, wholly consumed by fire also they do offer to our Lord, every day morning and evening, and incense made according to the precepts of the law, and the loaves are set forth on a most clean table, and there is with us the golden candlestick, and the lamps thereof, that they may be lighted always at evening: for we keep the precepts of the Lord our God, whom you have forsaken.Holocaustes also they do offer to our Lord, euerie day morning and euening, and incense made according to the preceptes of the law, and the loaues are set forth on a most cleane table, and there is with vs the golden condlesticke, and the lampes therof, that they may be lighted alwaies at euening: for we keepe the preceptes of the Lord our God, whom you haue forsaken.✦holocausta quoque offerunt Domino per singulos dies mane et vespere, et thymiama juxta legis præcepta confectum, et proponuntur panes in mensa mundissima, estque apud nos candelabrum aureum, et lucernæ ejus, ut accendantur semper ad vesperam : nos quippe custodimus præcepta Domini Dei nostri, quem vos reliquistis.
12Therefore in our exercitu: army God is the dux: leader, captain, commander, and his Priests, which sound with trumpets, and resound against you: children of Israel fight not against our Lord the God of your fathers, because it is not expedient for you.Therfore in our host God is the prince, and his Priestes, which sound with trumpettes, and resound agaynst you: children of Israel fight not agaynst our Lord the God of your fathers, because it is not expedient for you.Ergo in exercitu nostro dux Deus est, et sacerdotes ejus, qui clangunt tubis, et resonant contra vos : filii Israël, nolite pugnare contra Dominum Deum patrum vestrorum, quia non vobis expedit.
13He speaking these things, Jeroboam endeavoured to entrap him behind. And when he stood over against the enemies, he compassed Juda ignorantem: unaware, not knowing with his army.He speaking these thinges, Ieroboam endeuoured to entrappe him behind. And when he stood ouer agaynst the enemies, he compassed Iuda vnwitting with his armie.Hæc illo loquente, Jeroboam retro moliebatur insidias. 14And Judas looking back, saw the battle at hand before and behind, and cried to our Lord: and the Priests began to sound with trumpets.And Iudas looking backe, saw the battel at hand before and behind, and cryed to our Lord: and the Priestes begane to sound with trumpettes.Respiciensque Judas, vidit instare bellum ex adverso et post tergum, et clamavit ad Dominum, ac sacerdotes tubis canere cœperunt.
15And all the men of Juda made a shout: and behold they crying, God terrified Jeroboam, and all Israel that stood against Abias and Juda.And al the men of Iuda made a shout: and behold they crying, God terrified Ieroboam, and al Israel that stood agaynst Abias and Iuda.Omnesque viri Juda vociferati sunt : et ecce illis clamantibus, perterruit Deus Jeroboam, et omnem Israël qui stabat ex adverso Abia et Juda.

17Abias therefore and his people percussit: struck, smote them with a great slaughter, and there fell wounded of Israel five hundred thousand valiant men.Abias therfore and his people stroke them with a great slaughter, and there fel wounded of Israel fiue hundreth thousand valiant men.Percussit ergo eos Abia et populus ejus plaga magna : et corruerunt vulnerati ex Israël quingenta millia virorum fortium.

20Neither was Jeroboam able to resist any more, in the days of Abias: whom our Lord stroke, and he died.Neither was Ieroboam able to resist anie more, in the daies of Abias: whom our Lord stroke, and he died.✦nec valuit ultra resistere Jeroboam in diebus Abia : quem percussit Dominus, et mortuus est.
