If any do sin, the rest that do the works of the Holy Ghost, must not therefore take pride in themselves, but rather make humility of it, partly by fearing their own fall, partly by looking straitly to their own works. 6 He exhorteth earnestly to good works, assuring them that they shall reap none other than here they sow. 11 With his own hand he writeth, telling them, the true cause why those false Apostles preach circumcision, to be only to please the Jews: 17 and a plain argument that he preacheth it not, to be this, that he is persecuted of the Jews.If any do sinne, the rest that do the workes of the Holy Ghost, must not therfore take pride in them selues, but rather make humilitie of it, partly by fearing their owne fall, partly by looking straitly to their owne workes. 6 He exhorteth earnestly to good workes, assuring them that they shal reape none other then here they sow. 11 With his owne hand he writeth, telling them, the true cause why those false Apostles preach circumcision, to be only to please the Iewes: 17 and a plaine argument that he preacheth it not, to be this, that he is persecuted of the Iewes.✦
Brethren, and if a man be præoccupatus: overtaken, caught unawares in a fault in any fault, you that are spiritual, instruct such an one in the spirit of lenitatis: mildness, gentleness, considering thine own self, lest thou also be tempted.BRETHREN, and if a man be preoccupated in any fault, you that are spiritual, instruct such an one in the spirit of lenitie, considering thine owne self, lest thou also be tempted.✦Fratres, etsi præoccupatus fuerit homo in aliquo delicto, vos, qui spirituales estis, hujusmodi instruite in spiritu lenitatis, considerans teipsum, ne et tu tenteris.
2Bear ye one another's burdens: and so you shall fulfil the law of Christ.Beare ye one an others burdens: & so you shal fulfil the law of Christ.✦Alter alterius onera portate, et sic adimplebitis legem Christi.
3For if any man esteem himself to be something, whereas he is nothing, he seducit: deceiveth, leadeth astray, not in a sexual sense himself. For if any man esteeme him self to be something, whereas he is nothing, he seduceth him self.✦Nam si quis existimat se aliquid esse, cum nihil sit, ipse se seducit.
4But let every one probet: test, examine his own work, and so in himself only shall he have the glory, and not in another. But let euery one proue his owne worke, & so in him self only shal he haue the glorie, and not in an other.✦Opus autem suum probet unusquisque, et sic in semetipso tantum gloriam habebit, et non in altero.
5For every one shall bear his own burden. For euery one shal beare his owne burden.✦Unusquisque enim onus suum portabit.
6And let him that is catechized in the word, communicet: give a share, impart of his goods, not converse to him that catechizeth him, in all his goods. And let * him that is catechized in the word, communicate to him that catechizeth him, in al his goods.¶✦Communicet autem is qui catechizatur verbo, ei qui se catechizat, in omnibus bonis.
7Be not deceived, God is not mocked. For what things a man shall sow, those also shall he reap.Be not deceiued, God is not mocked. For what things a man shal sow, those also shal he reape.✦Nolite errare : Deus non irridetur.
8For he that soweth in his flesh, of the flesh also shall reap corruption. but he that soweth in the spirit, of the spirit shall reap life everlasting. For he that soweth in his flesh, of the flesh also shal reape corruption. but he that soweth in the spirit, of the spirit shal reape life euerlasting.✦Quæ enim seminaverit homo, hæc et metet. Quoniam qui seminat in carne sua, de carne et metet corruptionem : qui autem seminat in spiritu, de spiritu metet vitam æternam.
9And doing good, let us not fail. For in due time we shall reap not failing. And * doing good, let vs not faile. For in due time we shal reape not failing.✦Bonum autem facientes, non deficiamus : tempore enim suo metemus non deficientes.
10Therefore whiles we have time, let us work good to all, but especially to the domesticos: those of the household, the household of faith of the faith.Therfore whiles we haue time, let vs worke good to al, but especially to the domesticals of the faith. ⊢¶✦Ergo dum tempus habemus, operemur bonum ad omnes, maxime autem ad domesticos fidei.
11See with what manner of letters I have written to you with mine own hand.See with what maner of letters I haue written to you with mine owne hand.✦Videte qualibus litteris scripsi vobis mea manu.
12Whosoever will please in the flesh, they force you to be circumcised, only that they may not suffer the persecution of the cross of Christ.Whosoeuer wil please in the flesh, they force you to be circumcised, only that they may not suffer the persecution of the crosse of Christ.✦Quicumque enim volunt placere in carne, hi cogunt vos circumcidi, tantum ut crucis Christi persecutionem non patiantur.
13For neither they that are circumcised, do keep the Law: but they will have you to be circumcised, that they may glory in your flesh. For neither they that are circumcised, do keepe the Law: but they wil haue you to be circumcised, that they may glorie in your flesh.✦Neque enim qui circumciduntur, legem custodiunt : sed volunt vos circumcidi, ut in carne vestra glorientur.
14But God forbid that I should glory, nisi: except, other than in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ: by whom the world is crucified to me, and I to the world.b But God forbid that I should glorie, sauing in the crosse of our Lord IESVS Christ: by whom the world is crucified to me, and I to the world.✦Mihi autem absit gloriari, nisi in cruce Domini nostri Jesu Christi : per quem mihi mundus crucifixus est, et ego mundo.
15For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth aliquid: anything, aught, nor præputium: the foreskin, uncircumcision, but a new creature. For in Christ IESVS neither circumcision auaileth ought, nor prepuce, but a new creature.¶✦In Christo enim Jesu neque circumcisio aliquid valet, neque præputium, sed nova creatura.
16And whosoever shall follow this rule, peace upon them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.And whosoeuer shal folow this rule, peace vpon them, and mercie, and vpon the Israel of God.✦Et quicumque hanc regulam secuti fuerint, pax super illos, et misericordia, et super Israël Dei.
17From henceforth let no man be troublesome to me. for I bear the marks of our Lord Jesus in my body. From hencefurth let no man be troublesome to me. for I beare the markes of our Lord IESVS in my body.✦De cetero, nemo mihi molestus sit : ego enim stigmata Domini Jesu in corpore meo porto.
18The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit brethren. Amen. The grace of our Lord IESVS Christ be with your spirit brethren. Amen. ⊢Gratia Domini nostri Jesu Christi cum spiritu vestro, fratres. Amen.

6Communicate. The great duty and respect that we ought to have to such as preach or teach us the Catholic faith. and not in regard only of their pains taken with us, and well-deserving of us by their doctrine: but that we may be partakers of their merits, we ought specially to do good to such, or (as the Apostle speaketh) communicate with them in all our temporal goods, that we may be partakers of their spiritual. 10Especially. In giving alms, though we may do well in helping all that are in necessity, as far as we can, yet we are more bound to succour Christians, than Jews or Infidels: and Catholics, than Heretics. 15A new creature. Note well that the Apostle calleth that here a new creature, which in the last chapter he termed, faith working by charity, and (1 Cor. 7:19) the observation of the commandments of God. Whereby we may learn that under the name of faith is contained the whole reformation of our souls and our new creation in good works. and also that Christian justice is a very quality, condition and state of virtue and grace resident in us, and not a phantastical apprehension of Christ's justice only imputed to us. Lastly, that the faith which justifieth, joined with the other virtues, is properly the formal cause, and not the efficient or instrumental cause of justification. that is to say, these virtues put together, being the effect of God's grace, be our new creature and our justice in Christ.A new creature.
