And the king of the Assyrians sent Rabsaces from Lachis to Jerusalem, to king Ezechias with a great army, and he stood by the water conduit of the upper pool in the way of thevp agaynst al the fensed cities of Iuda, and tooke them. 4and Joahe the son of Asaph the a commentariis: the recorder, registrar. And Rabsaces said to them: Tell Ezechias: Thus saith the great king, the king of the Assyrians: What is this confidence, whereuponand Ioahe the sonne of Asaph the commenter. And Rabsaces sayd to them: Tel Ezechias: Thus sayth the great king, the king of the Assyrians: What is this confidence, wherevponEt dixit ad eos Rabsaces : Dicite Ezechiæ : Hæc dicit rex magnus, rex Assyriorum : Quæ est ista fiducia qua confidis ?
5thou dost trust? or by what counsel or force art thou disposed to rebel? upon whom hast thou confidence, that thou art revolted from me?thou dost trust? or by what counsel or force art thou disposed to rebel? vpon whom hast thou confidence, that thou art reuolted from me?✦aut quo consilio vel fortitudine rebellare disponis ? super quem habes fiduciam, quia recessisti a me ?
6Lo thou dost trust upon this broken staff of reed, upon Egypt: upon which if a man lean, it will enter into his hand, and pierce it: so is Pharao the king of Egypt to all that trust in him.Loe thou dost trust vpon this broken staffe of reede, vpon Aegypt: vpon which if a man leane, it wil enter into his hand, and pearce it: so is Pharao the king of Aegypt to al that trust in him.✦Ecce confidis super baculum arundineum confractum istum, super Ægyptum ; cui si innixus fuerit homo, intrabit in manum ejus, et perforabit eam : sic Pharao, rex Ægypti, omnibus qui confidunt in eo.

8And now deliver thyself to my lord the king of the Assyrians, and I will give thee two thousand horses, neither shalt thou be able of thyself to give riders for them.And now deliuer thyself to my lord the king of the Assyrians, & I wil geue thee two thousand horses, neither shalt thou be able of thyself to geue riders for them.✦Et nunc trade te domino meo, regi Assyriorum, et dabo tibi duo millia equorum, nec poteris ex te præbere ascensores eorum :
9And how wilt thou abide the face of the judge of one place, of the lesser servants of my Lord? The Lord sayd to me: Goe vp agaynst this land, & destroy it.✦et nunc numquid sine Domino ascendi ad terram istam, ut disperderem eam ? Dominus dixit ad me : Ascende super terram istam, et disperde eam.
11And Eliacim, and Sobna, and Joahe said to Rabsaces: Speak to thy servants in the Syrian tongue: for we understand it: speak not to us in the Jews' language in the ears of the people, that is upon the wall.And Eliacim, and Sobna, and Ioahe sayd to Rabsaces: Speake to thy seruants in the Syrian tongue: for we vnderstand it: speake not to vs in the Iewes language in the eares of the people, that is vpon the wal.Et dixit Eliacim, et Sobna, et Joahe, ad Rabsacen : Loquere ad servos tuos syra lingua ; intelligimus enim ; ne loquaris ad nos judaice in auribus populi qui est super murum.

13And Rabsaces stood, and cried with a loud voice in the Jews' language, and said: Hear ye the words of the great king, the king of Assyrians.And Rabsaces stood, & cried with a loude voice in the Iewes language, and sayd: Heare ye the wordes of the great king, the king of Assyrians.Et stetit Rabsaces, et clamavit voce magna judaice, et dixit : Audite verba regis magni, regis Assyriorum !
14Thus saith the king: Let not Ezechias seduce you, for he shall not be able to deliver you.Thus sayth the king: Let not Ezechias seduce you, for he shal not be able to deliuer you.Hæc dicit rex : Non seducat vos Ezechias, quia non poterit eruere vos.
15And let not Ezechias give you confidence upon the Lord, saying: Our Lord delivering will deliver us, this city shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyrians.And let not Ezechias geue you confidence vpon the Lord, saying: Our Lord deliuering wil deliuer vs, this citie shal not be geuen into the hand of the king of Assyrians.Et non vobis tribuat fiduciam Ezechias super Domino, dicens : Eruens liberabit nos Dominus : non dabitur civitas ista in manu regis Assyriorum.
16Hear not Ezechias: for thus saith the king of Assyrians, do a blessing with me, and come forth to me, and eat ye every man of his own vineyard, and every man of his own fig tree, and drink ye every man the water of his own cistern,Heare not Ezechias: for thus sayth the king of Assyrians, doe a blessing with me, and come forth to me, and eate ye euerie man of his owne wineyard, and euerie man of his owne figtree, and drinke ye euerie man the water of his owne cesterne,✦Nolite audire Ezechiam ; hæc enim dicit rex Assyriorum : Facite mecum benedictionem, et egredimini ad me, et comedite unusquisque vineam suam, et unusquisque ficum suam, et bibite unusquisque aquam cisternæ suæ,

18Neither let Ezechias trouble you, saying: Our Lord will deliver us. 19Where is the god of Emath, and Arphad? where is the god of Sepharvaim? have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?Where is the god of Emath, and Arphad? where is the god of Sepharuaim? haue they deliuered Samaria out of my hand?Ubi est deus Emath et Arphad ? ubi est deus Sepharvaim ? numquid liberaverunt Samariam de manu mea ?
20Who is there of all the gods of these lands, which hath delivered their land out of my hand, that the Lord can deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?Who is there of al the goddes of these landes, which hath deliuered their land out of my hand, that the Lord can deliuer Ierusalem out of my hand?Quis est ex omnibus diis terrarum istarum qui eruerit terram suam de manu mea, ut eruat Dominus Jerusalem de manu mea ?
21And they held their peace, and answered him not a word. For the king had commanded, saying: Answer him not.And they held their peace, and answered him not a word.
