The royal prophet, first professing the unspeakable goodness of God, 2. in the person of the weak complaineth, that the wicked prosper, and the just are afflicted. 15. reprehendeth the murmuration, for though we cannot comprehend the secret judgements of God. 18. yet they are most just. 25. So with desire to rest in God, he promiseth ever to praise him.The royal prophet, first professing the vnspeakable goodnes of God, 2. in the person of the weake complaineth, that the wicked prosper, and the iust are afflicted. 15. reprehendeth the murmuration, for though we can not comprehend the secrete iudgements of God. 18. yet they are most iust. 25. So with desire to rest in God, he promiseth euer to praise him.

A Psalm to Asaph. How good is God to Israel, to them, that are of a right heart!A Psalme a to Asaph. HOw b good is God to Israel, to them, that are of a right hart!Psalmus Asaph. Quam bonus Israël Deus, his qui recto sunt corde !

But my feet were almost moved, my steps almost slipped. But c my feete were almost moued, my steppes almost slipped.Mei autem pene moti sunt pedes, pene effusi sunt gressus mei :

Because I have had zeal upon the wicked, seeing the peace of sinners.Because I haue had zele vpon the wicked, seing the peace of sinners.quia zelavi super iniquos, pacem peccatorum videns.

Because there is no respectus: esteem or admiration; regard or heed to their death: and stability in their plague.Because there is d no respect to their death: and e stabilitie in ther plague.Quia non est respectus morti eorum, et firmamentum in plaga eorum.

In the labours of men they are not, and with men they shall not be scourged. In f the labours of men they are not, and with men they shal not be scourged. In labore hominum non sunt, et cum hominibus non flagellabuntur.

Therefore hath pride held them, they are covered with their iniquity and impiety.Therfore g hath pride helde them, they are couered with their iniquitie and impietie.Ideo tenuit eos superbia ; operti sunt iniquitate et impietate sua.

Their iniquity hath proceeded as it were of fat: they have passed into the affectum: fondness or love; disposition or inclination of the heart of the heart.Their iniquitie hath proceded as it were of fatte : they haue passed into h the affection of the hart.Prodiit quasi ex adipe iniquitas eorum ; transierunt in affectum cordis.

They have thought, and have spoken wickedness they have spoken iniquity on high. They haue thought, and haue spoken wickednes they haue spoken iniquitie i on high.Cogitaverunt et locuti sunt nequitiam ; iniquitatem in excelso locuti sunt.

They have set their mouth unto heaven: and their tongue hath passed in the earth. They haue sette their mouth vnto heauen : ãd their tongue hath passed in the earth.Posuerunt in cælum os suum, et lingua eorum transivit in terra.

Therefore will my people return here: and full days shall be found in them.Therfore wil my people k returne here : and l ful daies shal be found in them.Ideo convertetur populus meus hic, et dies pleni invenientur in eis.

And they have said: How doth God know, and is there knowledge in the highest? And they haue saide : m How doth God know, and is there knowledge in the highest?Et dixerunt : Quomodo scit Deus, et si est scientia in excelso ?

Lo the sinners themselves, and they that abound in the world, have obtained riches.Loe the sinners them selues, and they that abounde in the world, haue obtained riches.Ecce ipsi peccatores, et abundantes in sæculo obtinuerunt divitias.

And I said: Then have I justified my heart without cause, and have washed my hands amongst innocents:And I saide : Then haue I iustified my hart without cause, and haue washed my handes amongst innocentes:Et dixi : Ergo sine causa justificavi cor meum, et lavi inter innocentes manus meas,

And have been scourged all the day, and my chastising in the mornings. And haue bene scourged al the day, and my chastising in the morninges.et fui flagellatus tota die, et castigatio mea in matutinis.

If I said: I will speak this: behold I reprobavi: rebuked; rejected or cast off the nation of thy children. If I saide : I wil speake this : behold n I reproued the nation of thy children.Si dicebam : Narrabo sic ; ecce nationem filiorum tuorum reprobavi.

I thought to know this thing, it is labour before me:I o thought to know this thing, it is labour before me:Existimabam ut cognoscerem hoc ; labor est ante me :

Until I may enter into the sanctuary of God: and may understand concerning their latter ends.Vntil I may enter into the sanctuarie of God : and may vnderstand concerning their latter endes.donec intrem in sanctuarium Dei, et intelligam in novissimis eorum.

But yet for guiles thou hast put it to them: thou hast cast them down whiles they were elevated. But yet p for guiles thou hast put it to them : thou hast cast them downe whiles they q were eleuated.Verumtamen propter dolos posuisti eis ; dejecisti eos dum allevarentur.

How are they brought into desolation, they have failed suddenly: they have perished for their iniquity. How are they brought into desolation, they haue failed sodanely: they haue perished for their iniquitie.Quomodo facti sunt in desolationem ? subito defecerunt : perierunt propter iniquitatem suam.

As the dream of them that rise O Lord, in thy city thou shalt bring their image to nothing. As the dreame of them that rise ô Lord, in thy citie thou shalt bring their r image to nothing.Velut somnium surgentium, Domine, in civitate tua imaginem ipsorum ad nihilum rediges.

Because my heart is inflamed, and my renes: the kidneys, the inmost feelings are changed:Because my hart is s inflamed, and my reynes are changed:Quia inflammatum est cor meum, et renes mei commutati sunt ;

And I am brought to nothing, and knew not.And I am brought to nothing, and knew not.et ego ad nihilum redactus sum, et nescivi :

As a beast am I become with thee: and I always with thee.As t a beast am I become with thee : and I v alwaies with thee.ut jumentum factus sum apud te, et ego semper tecum.

Thou hast held my right hand: and in thy will thou hast conducted me, and with glory thou hast received me.Thou hast helde my right hand : and in thy wil thou hast conducted me, and with glorie thou hast receiued me.Tenuisti manum dexteram meam, et in voluntate tua deduxisti me, et cum gloria suscepisti me.

For what is to me in heaven? and besides thee what would I upon the earth? For what is to me w in heauen? and besides thee what would I vpon the earth?Quid enim mihi est in cælo ? et a te quid volui super terram ?

My flesh hath fainted, and my heart: God of my heart, and God my portion for ever.My x flesh hath fainted, and my hart : God of my hart, and God my portion for euer.Defecit caro mea et cor meum ; Deus cordis mei, et pars mea, Deus in æternum.

For behold, they that make themselves far from thee, shall perish: thou hast destroyed all, that fornicate from thee. For behold, they y that make them selues farre from thee, shal perish: thou z hast destroyed al, that fornicate from thee.Quia ecce qui elongant se a te peribunt ; perdidisti omnes qui fornicantur abs te.

But it is good for me to adhærere: to split apart; to cling or hold fast to God: to put my hope in our Lord God: That I may shew forth all thy praises, in the gates of the daughter of Sion. But it is good for me to cleaue to God : to put my hope in our Lord God: That I may shew forth al thy prayses, in the gates of the daughter of Sion.Mihi autem adhærere Deo bonum est ; ponere in Domino Deo spem meam : ut annuntiem omnes prædicationes tuas in portis filiæ Sion.
