Manasses for his manifold wickedness is led captive into Babylon. 12. repenteth in prison, is restored to his kingdom, and destroyeth idolatry: 18. dieth, 21. and Amon succeeding, 24. is slain by his servants, and Josias reigneth.Manaſſes for his manifold wickednes is led captiue into Babylon. 12. repenteth in priſon, is reſtored to his kingdom. and deſtroyeth idolatrie: 18. dieth, 21. & Amon ſucceding, 24. is ſlayne by his ſeruantes, and Ioſias reigneth.

Twelve years old was Manasses when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty five years in Jerusalem.TWELVE yeares old was Manaſſes when he began to reigne, and he reigned fiſtie fiue yeares in Ieruſalem.Duodecim annorum erat Manasses cum regnare cœpisset, et quinquaginta quinque annis regnavit in Jerusalem.

And he did evil before our Lord, according to all the abominations of the nations, which our Lord overthrew before the children of Israel:And he did euil before our Lord, according to al the abominations of the nations, which our Lord ouerthrew before the children of Iſrael:Fecit autem malum coram Domino, juxta abominationes gentium quas subvertit Dominus coram filiis Israël :

and being turned, he reedified the excelsa: the high places (hill shrines) which Ezechias his father had destroyed: and he built altars to Baalim, and made groves, and he adored all the militia: the array, of the stars, not a guest or army of heaven, and worshipped it.and being turned, he reedified the excelſes which Ezechias his father had deſtroyed: and he built altars to Baalim, and made groues, and he adored al the hoſt of heauen, and worſhipped it.et conversus instauravit excelsa quæ demolitus fuerat Ezechias pater ejus : construxitque aras Baalim, et fecit lucos, et adoravit omnem militiam cæli, et coluit eam.

He built also altars in the house of our Lord, whereof our Lord had said: In Jerusalem shall my name be for ever.He built alſo altars in the houſe of our Lord, wherof our Lord had ſayd: In Ieruſalem ſhal my name be for euer.Ædificavit quoque altaria in domo Domini, de qua dixerat Dominus : In Jerusalem erit nomen meum in æternum.

And he built them to all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of our Lord. And he built them to al the hoſt of heauen in the two courtes of the houſe of our Lord.Ædificavit autem ea cuncto exercitui cæli in duobus atriis domus Domini.

And he made his sons to pass through fire, to the Valebenennom: he observed dreams, followed soothsayings, gave himself to magic arts, he had with him magicians, and enchanters: and he wrought many evils before our Lord, to provoke him.And he made his ſonnes to paſſe through fyre, to the Valebenennom: he obſerued dreames, folowed ſouthſayings, gaue him ſelf to magike artes, he had with him magicians, & inchaunters: and he wrought manie euils before our Lord, to prouoke him.Transireque fecit filios suos per ignem in valle Benennom : observabat somnia, sectabatur auguria, maleficis artibus inserviebat, habebat secum magos et incantatores, multaque mala operatus est coram Domino ut irritaret eum.

Also a graven, and a molten sign he put in the house of God, whereof our Lord spake to David, and to Salomon his son, saying: In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen all the tribes of Israel, will I put my name for ever.Alſo a grauen, and a molten ſigne he put in the houſe of God, wherof our Lord ſpake to Dauid, and to Salomon his ſonne, ſaying: In this houſe, and in Ieruſalem, which I haue choſen al the tribes of Iſrael, wil I put my name for euer.

And I will not make the foot of Israel to move out of the land, which I have delivered to their fathers: yet so if they shall observe to do that I have commanded them, and all the law, and the ceremonies, and judgements by the hand of Moyses. And I wil not make the foote of Iſrael to moue out of the land, which I haue deliuered to their fathers: yet ſo if they ſhal obſerue to doe that I haue commanded them, and al the law, and the ceremonies, and iudgementes by the hand of Moyſes.

Manasses therefore seduxit: led astray, not in a sexual sense Juda, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, that they did evil above all the nations, which our Lord had overthrown before the face of the children of Israel.Manaſſes therfore ſeduced Iuda, and the inhabitantes of Ieruſalem, that they did euil aboue al the nations, which our Lord had ouerthrowen before the face of the children of Iſrael.Igitur Manasses seduxit Judam, et habitatores Jerusalem, ut facerent malum super omnes gentes quas subverterat Dominus a facie filiorum Israël.

And our Lord spake to him, and to his people, and they would not attend. And our Lord ſpake to him, and to his people, and they would not attend.

Therefore he brought upon them the princes of the host of the king of the Assyrians: and they took Manasses, and led him bound with chains, and fetters into Babylon.Therfore he brought vpon them the princes of the hoſt of the king of the Aſſyrians: and they tooke Manaſſes, & led him bound with chaynes, and fetters into Babylon.Idcirco superinduxit eis principes exercitus regis Assyriorum : ceperuntque Manassen, et vinctum catenis atque compedibus duxerunt in Babylonem.

Who after that he was in distress, prayed our Lord his God: and did poenitentia: contrition and satisfaction for sin, not mere remorse exceedingly before the God of his fathers.Who after that he was in diſtreſſe, prayed our Lord his God: and did penance excedingly before the God of his fathers.

And he desired him, and besought him earnestly: and he heard his prayer, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom, and Manasses knew that our Lord he was God.And he deſired him, and beſought him earneſtly: and he heard his prayer, and brought him agayne to Ieruſalem into his kingdom, and Manaſſes knew that our Lord he was God.Deprecatusque est eum, et obsecravit intente : et exaudivit orationem ejus, reduxitque eum Jerusalem in regnum suum, et cognovit Manasses quod Dominus ipse esset Deus.

After these things he built a wall without the city of David, on the west of Gihon in the valley, from the entrance of the fish gate roundabout unto Ophel, and raised it exceedingly: and he appointed princes of the host in all the fenced cities of Juda:After theſe thinges he built a wal without the citie of Dauid, on the weſt of Gihon in the valley, from the entrance of the fiſh gate roundabout vnto Ophel, and rayſed it excedingly: and he appoynted princes of the hoſt in al the fenſed cities of Iuda:Post hæc ædificavit murum extra civitatem David ad occidentem Gihon in convalle, ab introitu portæ piscium per circuitum usque ad Ophel, et exaltavit illum vehementer : constituitque principes exercitus in cunctis civitatibus Juda munitis :

and he took away strange gods, and the idol out of the house of our Lord: the altars also which he had made in the mount of the house of our Lord, and in Jerusalem, and he threw all without the city.and he tooke away ſtrange goddes, and the idol out of the houſe of our Lord: the altars alſo which he had made in the mount of the houſe of our Lord, and in Ieruſalem, and he threw al without the citie.et abstulit deos alienos, et simulacrum de domo Domini : aras quoque, quas fecerat in monte domus Domini et in Jerusalem : et projecit omnia extra urbem.

Moreover he reedified the altar of our Lord, and immolated upon it victims, and pacifica: peace offerings, and praise: and he commanded Juda to serve our Lord the God of Israel.Moreouer he reedified the altar of our Lord, and immolated vpon it victimes, and pacifiques, and prayſe: and he commanded Iuda to ſerue our Lord the God of Iſrael.

Nevertheless as yet the people immolated in the excelses to our Lord their God.Neuertheleſſe as yet the people immolated in the excelſes to our Lord their God.Attamen adhuc populus immolabat in excelsis Domino Deo suo.

But the rest of the acts of Manasses: and his obsecratio: earnest supplication to his God: the words also of the Seers, that spake to him in the name of our Lord the God of Israel, are contained in the words of the kings of Israel. But the reſt of the actes of Manaſſes: and his obſecration to his God: the wordes alſo of the Seers, that ſpake to him in the name of our Lord the God of Iſrael, are conteyned in the wordes of the kinges of Iſrael.

His prayer also, and his exauditio: the granting of his prayer, his being heard, and all his sins, and contempt, the places also wherein he built excelses, and made groves, and statues before he did penance, are written in the words of Hozai. His prayer alſo, and his obtayning, and al his ſinnes, and contempt, the places alſo wherein he built excelſes, and made groues, and ſtatues before he did penance, are writen in the wordes of Hozai.

Manasses therefore slept with his fathers, and they buried him in his house: and his son Amon reigned for him.Manaſſes therfore ſlept with his fathers, and they buried him in his houſe: & his ſonne Amon reigned for him.

Amon was two and twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned two years in Jerusalem.Ammon was two and twentie yeares old when he began to reigne, and he reigned two yeares in Ieruſalem.Viginti duorum annorum erat Amon cum regnare cœpisset, et duobus annis regnavit in Jerusalem.

And he did evil in the sight of our Lord, as Manasses his father had done: and he immolated to all the idols, which Manasses his father had made, and served them. And he did euil in the ſight of our Lord, as Manaſſes his father had done: and he immolated to al the idols, which Manaſſes his father had made, and ſerued them.Fecitque malum in conspectu Domini, sicut fecerat Manasses pater ejus : et cunctis idolis quæ Manasses fuerat fabricatus, immolavit atque servivit.

And he did not reverence the face of our Lord, as Manasses his father did reverence it, and he committed far greater sins. And he did not reuerence the face our Lord, as Manaſſes his father did reuerence it, and he committed farre greater ſinnes.

And when his servants had conspired against him, they slew him in his own house. And when his ſeruantes had conſpired agaynſt him, they ſlewe him in his owne houſe.Cumque conjurassent adversus eum servi sui, interfecerunt eum in domo sua.

Moreover the rest of the multitude of the people, having slain them that percusserant: struck down, slew Amon, made Josias his son king for him.Moreouer the reſt of the multitude of the people, hauing ſlaine them that ſtroke Amon, made Ioſias his ſonne king for him.Porro reliqua populi multitudo, cæsis iis qui Amon percusserant, constituit regem Josiam filium ejus pro eo.
