Be all things known to our Lord the king, that when we came into the country of Jewry, and had entered into Jerusalem, we found them building the great house of God.Be al thinges knowen to our Lord the king, that when we came into the countrie of Iurie, and had entered into Ierusalem, we found them building the great house of God.Omnia nota sint domino regi, quod cum venissemus in regionem Judææ, et introissemus in Jerusalem, invenimus ædificantes domum Dei magnam :
And the temple of polished stones, and of great and precious matter in the walls. And the temple of polished stones, and of great and precious matter in the walles.et templum ex lapidibus politis, et magnis et pretiosis materiis in parietibus,

Then we asked the ancients saying, by whose permission build ye this house, and found these works? Then we asked the ancients saying, by whose permission build ye this house, & found these workes?Tunc interrogavimus seniores, dicentes, Quo permittente vobis ædificatis domum istam, et opera hæc fundatis ?
And therefore we asked them, that we might do thee to know the men and the overseers, and we required of them a roll of the names of the overseers. And therfore we asked them, that we might doe thee to know the men & the ouerseers, and we required of them a rolle of the names of the ouerseers.Ideo autem interrogavimus eos, ut notum faceremus tibi homines et præpositos, et nominum scripturam præpositorum postulavimus illos.
But they answered us saying: We are the servants of the Lord, which made heaven and earth. But they answered vs saying: We are the seruantes of the Lord, which made heauen and earth. At illi responderunt nobis, dicentes, Nos sumus servi Domini, qui fecit cælum et terram,
And this house was built these many years past by a king of Israel that was great and most valiant, and was finished. And this house was built these manie yeares past by a king of Israel that was great and most valiant, and was finished.et ædificabatur hæc domus ante annos istos multos a rege Israël magno et fortissimo, et consummata est.
And because our fathers were provoking to wrath, and sinned against God of Israel, he delivered them into the hands of Nabuchodonosor the king of Babylon, king of the Chaldees. And because our fathers were prouoking to wrath, and sinned agaynst God of Israel, he deliuered them into the handes of Nabuchodonosor the king of Babylon, king of the Chaldees.Et quoniam patres nostri exacerbantes erant et peccaverunt in Deum Israël, tradidit eos in manus Nabuchodonosor regis Babyloniæ, regis Chaldæorum,
And throwing down this house they burnt it, and they led the people captive into Babylon. And throwing downe this house they burnt it, and they led the people captiue into Babylon.et domum istam demolientes incenderunt, et populum captivum duxerunt in Babylonem.
In the first year when Cyrus reigned the king of Babylon, Cyrus the king wrote to build this house. In the first yeare when Cyrus reigned the king of Babylon, Cyrus the king wrote to build this house. In primo anno regnante Cyro rege Babyloniæ, scripsit Cyrus rex domum hanc ædificare,
And these sacred vessels of gold and silver which Nabuchodonosor had taken out of the house which is in Jerusalem, and had consecrated them in his own temple, Cyrus brought them forth again out of the temple which was in Babylon, and they were delivered to Zorobabel, and to Salmanasar the deputy. And these sacred vessels of gold and siluer which Nabuchodonosor had taken out of the house which is in Ierualsem, and had consecrated them in his owne temple, Cyrus brought them forth agayne out of the temple which was in Babylon, and they were deliuered to Zorobabel, & to Salmanasar the deputie.et illa sacra vasa aurea, et argentea, quæ extulerat Nabuchodonosor de domo quæ est in Jerusalem, et consecraverat ea in suo templo, rursus protulit ea Cyrus rex de templo quod erat in Babylonia, et tradita sunt Zorobabel, et Salmanasaro subregulo :
And it was commanded them that they should offer these vessels, and lay them up in the temple, which was in Jerusalem, and build the temple of God itself in his place. And it was commanded them that they should offer these vessels, & lay them vp in the temple, which was in Ierusalem, and build the temple of God itself in his place.Et præceptum est eis ut offerrent hæc vasa, et reponerent in templo quod erat in Jerusalem, et ipsum templum Dei ædificare in loco suo.
Then did Salmanasar lay the foundations of the house of our Lord, which is in Jerusalem: and from that time until now it is a building, and is not accomplished. Then did Salmanasar lay the fundations of the house of our Lord, which is in Ierusalem: and from that time vntil now it is a building, and is not accomplished.Tunc Salmanasarus subjecit fundamenta domus Domini, quæ est in Jerusalem : et exinde usque nunc ædificatur, et non accepit consummationem.
Now therefore if thou think it good O king, let it be sought in the kings' libraries of Cyrus the king, which are in Babylon:Now therfore if thou thincke it good ô king, let it be sought in the kings liberaries of Cyrus the king, which are in Babylon:Nunc ergo si judicatur a te o rex, perquiratur in regalibus bibliothecis Cyri regis, quæ sunt in Babylonia :
and if it shall be found, that the building of the house of the Lord, which is in Jerusalem, began by the counsel of Cyrus the king, and it be thought good of our Lord the king, let him write to us of these things.and if it shal be found, that the building of the house of the Lord, which is in Ierusalem, begane by the counsel of Cyrus the king, and it be thought good of our Lord the king, let him write to vs of these thinges.et si inventum fuerit consilio Cyri regis cœptam esse structuram domus Domini, quæ est in Jerusalem, et judicatur a Domino rege nostro, scribat de his nobis.
Then Darius the king commanded search to be made in the libraries: and there was found in Ecbatana a town that is in the country of Media, one place wherein were written these words:Then Darius the king commanded search to be made in the libraries: and there was found in Ecbatana a towne that is in the countrie of Media, one place wherin were writen these wordes:Tunc Darius rex præcepit inquiri in bibliothecis : et inventus est in Ecbathanis oppido, quod est in media regione locus unus, in quo scripta erant ista :

the height whereof shall be of ten cubits, and the breadth threescore cubits, four square with three stones polished, and with a loft gallery of wood of the same country, and one new gallery, and the expenses to be given out of the house of Cyrus the king.the height wherof shal be of ten cubits, & the bredth threescore cubites, foure square with three stones polished, and with a loft galerie of wood of the same countrie, & one new galerie, and the expenses to be geuen out of the house of Cyrus the king.cujus altitudo sit cubitorum decem, et latitudo cubitorum sexaginta, quadratum lapidibus politis tribus, et meniano ligneo ejusdem regionis, et meniano uno novo, et impendia dari de domo Cyri regis :
And the sacred vessels of the house of the Lord, as well of gold as of silver, which Nabuchodonosor took from the house of our Lord, which is in Jerusalem where they were laid, that they be put there:And the sacred vesseles of the house of the Lord, as wel of gold as of siluer, which Nabuchodonosor tooke from the house of our Lord, which is in Ierusalem where they were layed, that they be put there:et sacra vasa domus Domini tam aurea quam argentea, quæ extulit Nabuchodonosor in domum Domini, quæ est in Jerusalem, ubi erant posita, ut ponantur illic :
And he commanded Sisennes the deputy of Syria and Phœnice, and Satrabuzanes, and his fellows and them that were ordained presidents in Syria and Phœnice, that they should refrain themselves from that place. And he commanded Sisennes the deputie of Syria & Phœnice, and Satrabuzanes, and his felowes & them that were ordayned presidentes in Syria & Phœnice, that they should refraine themselues from that place.et præcepit curam agere Sisennem subregulum Syriæ, et Phœnicis, et Satrabuzanem, et sodales ejus, et qui ordinati erant in Syria et Phœnice præsides, ut abstinerent se ab eodem loco.
And I also have given commandment to build it wholly: and have provided, that they help them, which are of the captivity of the Jews, till the temple of the house of the Lord be accomplished. And I also haue geuen commandment to build it wholly: and haue prouided, that they helpe them, which are of the captiuitie of the Iewes, til the temple of the house of the Lord be accomplished.Et ego quoque præcepi in totum ædificare : et prospexi, ut adiuvent eos qui sunt ex captivitate Judæorum, donec consummetur templum ædis Domini :
And from the vexation of the tributes of Cœlesyria and Phœnice, a quantity to be given diligently to these men for the sacrifice of the Lord, to Zorobabel the governor, for oxen, and rams, and lambs. And from the vexation of the tributes of Cœlesyria & Phœnice, a quantitie to be geuen diligently to these men for the sacrifice of the Lord, to Zorobabel the gouernour, for oxen, and rammes, and lambes.et a vexatione tributorum Cœlesyriæ et Phœnicis, diligenter quantitatem dari his hominibus ad sacrificium Domini, Zorobabel præfecto, ad tauros, et arietes, et agnos,
And in like manner corn also, and salt, and wine, and oil continually year by year, according as the priests which are in Jerusalem, have prescribed to be spent daily:And in like maner corne also, and salt, and wine, and oyle continually yeare by yeare, according as the priestes which are in Ierusalem, haue prescribed to be spent dayly:similiter autem et frumentum, et sal, et vinum, et oleum instanter per singulos annos, prout sacerdotes qui sunt in Jerusalem, dictaverunt consumi quotidie sine ulla dilatione,
that libationes: drink offerings poured out may be offered to the most high God for the king and his children, and that they may pray for their life.that libamentes may be offered to the most high God for the king & his children, & that they may pray for their life.ut offerantur libationes summo Deo pro rege et pueris ejus, et orent pro ipsorum vita :
And that it be denuncietur: proclaimed, given public notice, that whosoever shall transgress any thing of these which are written, or shall despise it, a beam be taken of their own, and they be hanged, and their goods be confiscate to the king. And that it be denounced, that whosoeuer shal transgresse anie thing of these which are writen, or shal despise it, a beame be taken of theyr owne, & they be hanged, & their goodes be confiscate to the king.et denuncietur, ut quicumque transgressi fuerint aliquid ex his quæ scripta sunt, aut spreverint, accipiatur lignum de suis propriis, et suspendantur, et bona ipsorum regi ascribantur.
