And there assembled to me mourning upon this iniquity, as many as were then moved by the word of our Lord the God of Israel, and I sat sad until the evening sacrifice. And there assembled to me mourning vpon this iniquitie, as manie as were then moued by the word of our Lord the God of Israel, and I sate sad vntil the euening sacrifice.
And I rising up from fasting, having my garments rent and the sacred tunic, kneeling, and stretching forth my hands to our Lord,And I rising vp from fasting, hauing my garmentes rent and the sacred tunike, kneeling, and stretching forth my handes to our Lord,Et consurgens a jejunio, conscissa habens vestimenta et sacram tunicam, ingeniculans, et extendens manus ad Dominum,
I said: Lord I am confounded, and ashamed before thy face,I sayd: Lord I am confounded, and ashamed before thy face, dicebam : Domine confusus sum, et reveritus sum ante faciem tuam.
for our sins are multiplied over our heads, and our iniquities are exalted even to heaven.for our sinnes are multiplied ouer our heades, and our iniquities are exalted euen to heauen.
Because from the times of our fathers we are in great sin unto this day.Because from the times of our fathers we are in great sinne vnto this day.Quoniam a temporibus patrum nostrorum sumus in magno peccato usque ad diem hunc.
And for the sins of us, and of our fathers we have been delivered with our brethren, and with our Priests to the kings of the earth, into sword and captivity, and spoil with confusion unto this present day.And for the sinnes of vs, and of our fathers we haue bene deliuered with our brethren, and with our Priestes to the kinges of the earth, into sword and captiuitie, and spoile with confusion vnto this present day.
And now what a great thing is this that mercy hath happened to us from thee O Lord God, and leave thou unto us a root, and a name in the place of thy sanctification,And now what a great thing is this that mercie hath happened to vs from thee ô Lord God, & leaue thou vnto vs a roote, and a name in the place of thy sanctification,Et nunc quantum est hoc quod contigit nobis misericordia abs te Domine Deus, et relinque nobis radicem, et nomen in locum sanctificationis tuæ,
to discover our light in the house of the Lord our God, to give us meat in all the time of our bondage.to discouer our light in the house of the Lord our God, to geue vs meate in al the time of our bondage.detegere luminare nostrum in domo Domini Dei nostri, dare nobis cibum in omni tempore servitutis nostræ.
And when we served, we were not forsaken of the Lord our God: but he set us in favour, appointing the kings of the Persians to give us meat,And when we serued, we were not forsaken of the Lord our God: but he sette vs in fauour, appointing the kinges of the Persians to geue vs meate,Et cum serviremus, non fuimus derelicti a Domino Deo nostro, sed constituit nos in gratia, ponens nobis reges Persarum dare cibum,
and to glorify the temple of the Lord our God, and to build the desolations of Sion, to give us stability in Jewry, and Jerusalem.and to glorifie the temple of the Lord our God, and to build the desolations of Sion, to geue vs stabilitie in Iurie, and Ierusalem.et clarificare templum Domini Dei nostri, et ædificare deserta Sion, dare nobis stabilitatem in Judæa, et Jerusalem.
And now what say we Lord, having these things? For we have transgressed thy precepts, which thou gavest into the hands of thy servants the prophets,And now what say we Lord, hauing these thinges? For we haue transgressed thy preceptes, which thou gauest into the handes of thy seruants the prophetes,Et nunc quid dicimus Domine habentes hæc ? Transgressi enim sumus præcepta tua, quæ dedisti in manus puerorum tuorum prophetarum,
saying: That the land into which ye entered to possess the inheritance thereof, is a land polluted with the coinquinationibus: defilements, pollutions of the strangers of the land, and their uncleanness hath filled it wholly with their filthiness.saying: That the land into which ye entred to possesse the inheritance therof, is a land polluted with the coinquinations of the strangers of the land, and their vncleanes hath filled it wholy with their filthines.dicens : Quoniam terra, in quam introistis possidere hæreditatem ejus, terra polluta est coinquinationibus alienigenarum terræ, et immunditiæ illorum repleverunt eam totam immunditia sua.
And now your daughters you shall not match with their sons, and their daughters you shall not take for your sons. And now your daughters you shal not match with their sonnes, and their daughters you shal not take for your sonnes.
And you shall not seek to have peace with them for ever, that growing strong you may eat the best things of the land, and may distribute the inheritance to your children for ever. And you shal not seeke to haue peace with them for euer, that growing strong you may eate the best things of the land, and may distribute the inheritance to your children for euer.et non inquiretis pacem habere cum illis omni tempore, ut invalescentes manducetis optima terræ, et hæreditatem distribuatis filiis vestris usque in ævum.
And the things that happen to us, all are done for our maligna: mildly mischievous; wicked, evil, worthless works, and our great sins. And the thinges that happen to vs, al are done for our nauhtie workes, and our great sinnes.Et quæ contingunt nobis, omnia fiunt propter opera nostra maligna, et magna peccata nostra.
And thou gavest us such a root, and we are returned again to transgress thy ordinances, that we would be mingled with the uncleanness of the nations of this land. And thou gauest vs such a roote, and we are returned againe to transgresse thy ordinances, that we would be mingled with the vncleannes of the nations of this land.Et dedisti nobis talem radicem, et rursum reversi sumus transgredi legitima tua, uti commisceremur immunditiæ alienigenarum gentium terræ hujus.
Wilt not thou be wrath with us to destroy us, till there be no root left nor our name?Wilt not thou be wrath with vs to destroy vs, til there be no roote left nor our name?
Lord God of Israel thou art true. For there is a root left until this present day.Lord God of Israel thou art true. For there is a roote left vntil this present day.
Behold, now we are in thy sight in our iniquities. For it is not to stand any longer before thee in these matters.Behold, now we are in thy sight in our iniquities. For it is not to stand any longer before thee in these matters.Ecce, nunc sumus in conspectu tuo in iniquitatibus nostris.
And when Esdras with adoration confessed weeping, lying flat on the ground before the temple, there were gathered before him out of Jerusalem a very great multitude, men and women, and young men and young women. For there was great weeping in the multitude itself. And when Esdras with adoration confessed weeping, lying flat on the ground before the temple, there were gathered before him out of Ierusalem a verie great multitude, men and wemen, and yong men and youg wemen. For there was great weeping in the multitude it self.
And when he had cried, Jechonias of Jeheli of the children of Israel, said to Esdras: We have sinned against our Lord, for that we have taken unto us in marriage strange women of the nations of the land. And when he had cried, Iechonias of Ieheli of the children of Israel, sayd to Esdras: We haue sinned against our Lord, for that we haue taken vnto vs in mariage strange wemen of the nations of the land.
And now thou art over all Israel, in these therefore let there be an oath from our Lord to expel all our wives that are of strangers with their children. And now thou art ouer al Israel, in these therfore let there be an othe from our Lord to expel al our wiues that are of strangers with their children.Et nunc es super omnem Israël. In his ergo sit jusjurandum a Domino expellere omnes uxores nostras quæ ex alienigenis sunt cum filiis earum.
As it was decreed to thee of the ancestors according to the law of our Lord, rising up declare it.As it was decreed to thee of the ancesters according to the law of our Lord, rising vp declare it.Sicut tibi decretum est a majoribus secundum legem Domini exurgens explica.
For to thee the business pertaineth, and we are with thee: do manfully. For to thee the busines perteineth, and we are with thee: doe manfully.
