Esdras is bid to denounce, that assuredly many evils will come to the world. 9. God will protect his people, the wicked shall be punished, and lament their final miseries, God revenging for the good.Esdras is bid to denounce, that assuredly manie euiles wil come to the world. 9. God wil protect his people, the wicked shal be punished, and lament their final miseries, God reuenging for the good.

Behold speak into the ears of my people the words of prophecy, which I shall put into thy mouth, saith our Lord:BEHOLD speake into the eares of my people the wordes of prophecie, which I shal put into thy mouth, sayth our Lord :Ecce loquere in aures plebis meæ sermones prophetiæ, quos immisero in os tuum, dicit Dominus :

and see that they be written in paper, because they be faithful and true.and see that they be written in paper, because they be faithful and true.et fac ut in charta scribantur, quoniam fideles et veri sunt.

Be not afraid of the cogitations against thee, neither let the incredulitates: skeptical amazement, refusal to be convinced; unbeliefs, wants of faith trouble thee of them that speak.Be not afrayd of the cogitations against thee, neither let the incredulities truble thee of them that speake.

Because every incredulous person shall die in his incredulity.Because euerie incredulous person shal dye in his incredulitie.Quoniam omnis incredulus in incredulitate sua morietur.

Behold I bring in, saith our Lord, upon the whole earth evils, sword, and famine, and death, and destruction.Behold I bring in, sayth our Lord, vpon the whole earth euils, sword, and famine, and death, and destruction.Ecce ego induco, dicit Dominus, super orbem terrarum mala, gladium, et famem, et mortem, et interitum :

Because iniquity hath fully polluted over all the earth, and their hurtful works are accomplished.Because iniquitie hath fully polluted ouer al the earth, and their hurtful workes are accomplished.propter quod superpolluit iniquitas omnem terram, et adimpleta sunt opera nociva illorum.

Therefore saith our Lord:Therefore sayth our Lord :Propterea dicit Dominus :

I will not now keep silence of their impieties which they do irreligiously, neither will I bear with those things, which they practise unjustly. Behold the innocent and just blood crieth to me, and the souls of the just cry continually.I wil not now kepe silence of their impieties which they doe irreligiously, neither wil I beare with those thinges, which they practise vniustly. Behold the innocent & iust bloud crieth to me, & the soules of the iust crie continually.jam non silebo de impietatibus eorum quæ irreligiose agunt, nec sustinebo in his quæ inique exercent.

Revenging I will revenge them, saith our Lord, and I will take all innocent blood out of them unto me.Reuenging I wil reuenge them, sayth our Lord, and I wil take al innocent bloud out of them vnto me.Vindicans vindicabo illos, dicit Dominus, et accipiam omnem sanguinem innoxium ex illis ad me.

Behold my people is led to slaughter as a flock, I will no more suffer it to dwell in the land of Egypt.Behold my people is led to slaughter as a flocke, I wil no more suffer it to dwel in the land of Ægypt.Ecce populus meus quasi grex ad occisionem ducitur, jam non patiar illum habitare in terra Ægypti :

But I will bring them forth in a mighty hand and valiant arm, and will strike with plague as before, and will corrupt all the land thereof. But I wil bring them forth in a mightie hand and valiant arme, and wil strike with plague as before, and wil corrupt al the land thereof.sed educam eum in manu potenti et brachio excelso, et percutiam plaga sicut prius, et corrumpam omnem terram ejus.

Egypt shall mourn, and the foundations thereof beaten with plague, and with the chastisement which God will bring upon it.Ægypt shal mourne, and the fundations thereof beaten with plague, and with the chastisement which God wil bring vpon it.Lugebit Ægyptus, et fundamenta ejus plaga verberata, et castigatione quas inducet ei Deus.

The husbandmen that till the ground shall mourn, because their seeds shall perish by uredine: an explosion or violent gust; blight, mildew, the scorching of standing grain, and hail, and by a terrible star. The husbandmen that til the ground shal mourne, because their seedes shal perish by blasting, and haile, and by a terible starre.

Woe to the world and them that dwell therein.Woe to the world and them that dwel therein.Væ sæculo, et qui habitant in eo :

Because the sword is at hand and the destruction of them, and nation shall rise up against nation to fight, and sword in their hands.Because the sword is at hand and the destruction of them, and nation shal rise vp against nation to fight, & sword in their handes.quia appropinquavit gladius et contritio eorum, et exurget gens contra gentem ad pugnam, et romphæa in manibus eorum.

For there shall be inconstabilitio: not the modern physical or emotional unsteadiness: a state of tumult and lawless commotion, want of settled rule to men, and growing one against another they shall not care for their king, and the princes of the way of their doings, in their might. For there shal be instabilitie to men, & growing one against an other they shal not care for their king, & the princes of the way of their doinges, in their might.

For a man shall desire to go into the city and cannot. For a man shal desire to go into the citie & can not.

Because of their prides the cities shall be troubled, the houses exterentur: lifted up, built up; rased, razed, pulled down and levelled, the men shall fear.Because of their prides the cities shal be trubled, the houses raised, the men shal feare.Propter superbiam enim eorum civitates turbabuntur, domus exterentur, homines metuent.

Man shall not pity his neighbour, to make their houses nothing worth in the sword, to spoil their goods for famine of bread, and much tribulation.Man shal not pitie his neighbour, to make their houses nothingworth in the sword, to spoyle their goodes for famine of bread, & much tribulation.

Behold, I call together saith God, all the kings of the earth to fear me, that are from the Orient, and from the South, from the East, and from Libanus, to be turned upon themselves, and to render the things that they have given them.Behold, I cal together sayth God, al the kinges of the earth to feare me, that are from the Orient, & from the South, from the East, & from Libanus, to be turned vpon themselues, and to render the thinges that they haue geuen them.

As they do until this day to mine elect, so will I do, and render in their bosom. Thus saith our Lord God:As they doe vntil this day to myne elect, so wil I doe, and render in their bosome. Thus sayth our Lord God :sicut faciunt usque hodie electis meis, sic faciam et reddam in sinu eorum. Hæc dicit Dominus Deus.

My right hand shall not spare sinners, neither shall the sword cease upon them that shed innocent blood upon the earth. My righthand shal not spare sinners, neither shal the sword cease vpon them that shede innocent bloud vpon the earth.Non parcet dextera mea super peccatores, nec cessabit romphæa super effundentem sanguinem innoxium super terram.

Fire came forth from his wrath, and hath devoured the foundations of the earth, and sinners as it were straw set on fire.Fire came forth from his wrath, and hath deuoured the fundations of the earth, and sinners as it were straw set on fire.

Woe to them that sin, and observe not my commandments, saith our Lord.Woe to them that sinne, and obserue not my comandmentes, sayth our Lord.Væ eis qui peccant, et non observant mandata mea, dicit Dominus.

I will not spare them: depart O children from the power. Defile not my sanctification:I wil not spare them : depart ô children from the powre. Defile not my sanctification :non parcam illis. Discedite filii a potestate. Nolite contaminare sanctificationem meam,

because the Lord knoweth all that sin against him; therefore hath he delivered them into death and into slaughter.because the Lord knoweth al that sinne against him ; therefore hath he deliuered them into death and into slaughter.quoniam novit Dominus omnes qui delinquunt in illum ; propterea tradidit eos in mortem, et in occisionem.

For now are evils come upon the world, and you shall tarry in them. For God will not deliver you, because you have sinned against him.For now are euils come vpon the world, and you shal tarrie in them. For God wil not deliuer you, because you haue sinned against him.jam enim venerunt super orbem terrarum mala, et manebitis in illis.

Behold an horrible vision, and the face of it from the east.Behold an horrible vision, and the face of it from the east.

And the nations of dragons of Arabians shall come forth in many chariots, and as a wind the number of them is carried upon the earth, so that now all do fear and tremble, that shall hear them. And the nations of dragons of Arabians shal comeforth in manie chariots, & as a winde the number of them is caried vpon the earth, so that now al doe feare and tremble, that shal heare them.

the Carmonians mad for anger, and they shall go forth as wild boars out of the wood, and they shall come with great power, and shall stand in fight with them, and they shall waste the portion of the land of the Assyrians.the Carmonians madde for anger, and they shal goe forth as wild boares out of the wood, & they shal come with great power, and shal stand in fight with them, & they shal waste the portion of the land of the Assirians.carmonii insanientes in ira, et exient ut apri de silva, et advenient de virtute magna, et constabunt in pugnam cum illis, et vastabunt portionem terræ Assyriorum.

And after these things the dragons shall prevail mindful of their nativity, and conspiring shall turn themselves in great force to pursue them. And after these thinges the dragons shal preuaile mindful of their natiuitie, and conspiring shal turne themselues in great force to pursue them.

These shall be troubled and hold their peace at their force, and shall turn their feet into flight. These shal be trubled and hold their peace at their force, and shal turne their fete into flight.Isti turbabuntur et silebunt in virtute illorum, et convertent pedes suos in fugam,

And from the territory of the Assyrians the besiegers shall besiege them, and shall consume one of them, and there shall be fear and trembling in their army, and contention against their kings. And from the territorie of the Assirians the besiegers shal beseige them, and shal consume one of them, and there shal be feare and trembling in their armie, and contention against their kinges.et a territorio Assyriorum subsessor obsidebit eos, et consumet unum ex illis, et erit timor et tremor in exercitu illorum, et contentio in reges ipsorum.

Behold clouds from the east, and from the north unto the south, and their face very horrible, full of wrath and storm.Behold cloudes from the east, and from the north vnto the south, and their face very horrible, ful of wrath and storme.

And they shall beat one against another, and they shall beat down many stars, and their star upon the earth, and blood shall be from the sword unto the belly. And they shal beate one against an other, and they shal beate downe manie starres, and their starre vpon the earth, and bloud shal be from the sword vnto the bellie.et collident se invicem, et collident sidus copiosum super terram, et sidus illorum, et erit sanguis a gladio usque ad ventrem,

And man's dung unto the camel's litter, and there shall be much fear, and trembling upon the earth. And mans dung vnto the camels litter, and there shal be much feare, and trembling vpon the earth.et fimus hominis usque ad substramen cameli, et erit timor et tremor multus super terram,

And they shall shake that shall see that wrath, and tremble shall take them: and after these things there shall many showers be moved:And they shal shake that shal see that wrath, and tremble shal take them : and after these thinges there shal manie showers be moued :et horrebunt qui videbunt iram illam, et tremor apprehendet illos : et post hæc movebuntur nimbi copiosi

from the south, and the north: and another portion from the west.from the south, and the north : and an other portion from the weast.a meridiano et septentrione, et portio alia ab occidente :

And the winds from the east shall prevail upon it, and shall shut it up, and the clouds which he raised in wrath, and the star to make terror to the east wind, and the west shall be destroyed. And the windes from the east shal preuaile vpon it, and shal shut it vp, and the cloudes which he raised in wrath, and the starre to make terrour to the east winde, and the west shal be destroyed.et superinvalescent venti ab oriente, et recludent eam, et nubem quam suscitavit in ira, et sidus ad faciendam exterritationem ad orientalem ventum et occidentem violabitur :

And there shall be exalted great and mighty clouds full of wrath, and a star to terrify all the earth, and the inhabitants thereof, and they shall pour in upon every high, and eminent place a terrible star,And there shal be exalted great and mightie cloudes ful of wrath, and a starre to terrifie al the earth, and the inhabitantes therof, and they shal powre in vpon euerie high, and eminent place a terrible starre,et exaltabuntur nubes magnæ et validæ plenæ iræ, et sidus, ut exterreant omnem terram, et inhabitantes eam, et infundent super omnem locum altum et eminentem sidus terribile,

fire, and hail, and flying swords, and many waters, so that all fields also shall be filled, and all rivers with the fullness of many waters.fire, and haile, and flying swordes, and manie waters, so that al fildes also shal be filled, and al riuers with the fulnes of manie waters.ignem et grandinem, et romphæas volantes, et aquas multas, ut etiam impleantur omnes campi et omnes rivi plenitudine aquarum multarum.

And they shall throw down cities, and walls, and mountains, and hills, and the trees of the woods, and the grass of the meadows, and their corn. And they shal throw downe cities, and walles, and mountaines, and hilles, and the trees of the woodes, and the grasse of the medowes, and their corne.Et demolientur civitates, et muros, et montes, et colles, et ligna silvarum, et fœnum pratorum, et frumenta eorum.

And they shall pass constantes: continual, unceasing, unchanging; steadfast, resolute, firm of purpose unto Babylon, and shall raise her.And they shal passe constant vnto Babylon, and shal raise her.

They shall come together against her, and shall compass her, and shall pour out the star, and all wrath upon her, and the dust and smoke shall go up even into heaven, and round about shall lament her. They shal come together against her, and shal compasse her, and shal power out the starre, and al wrath vpon her, and the dust and smoke shal goe vp euen into heauen, and round about shal lament her.convenient ad ipsam, et circuibunt eam, et effundent sidus, et omnem iram super eam, et subibit pulvis et fumus usque in cælum, et omnes in circuitu lugebunt eam :

And they that shall remain under her, shall serve them that terrified her.And they that shal remaine vnder her, shal serue them that terified her.et qui sub ea remanserint, servient his qui exterruerunt.

And thou Asia agreeing into the hope of Babylon, and the glory of her person,And thou Asia agreeing into the hope of Babylon, and the glorie of her person,Et tu Asia concors in spem Babylonis, et gloria personæ ejus,

woe be to thee thou wretch, because thou art like to her, and hast adorned thy daughters in fornication, to please and glory in thy lovers, which have desired always to fornicate with thee.woe be to thee thou wretch, because thou art like to her, and hast adorned thy daughters in fornication, to please & glorie in thy louers, which haue desired alwayes to fornicate with thee.væ tibi misera propter quod assimilasti ei, et ornasti filias tuas in fornicatione, ad placendum et gloriandum in amatoribus tuis, qui tecum cupierunt semper fornicari.

Thou hast imitated the odious in all her works, and in her inventions: therefore saith God:Thou hast imitated the odious in al her workes, and in her inuentions : therefore sayth God :Odibilem imitata es in omnibus operibus ejus, et in adinventionibus ejus : propterea dicit Deus,

I will send in evils upon thee, widowhood, poverty, and famine, and sword, and pestilence, to destroy thy houses by violation, and death, and glory of thy virtue.I wil send in euils vpon thee, widowhood, pouertie, and famine, and sword, and pestilence, to destroy thy houses by violation, and death, and glorie of thy vertue.

As a flower shall be withered, when the heat shall rise that is sent forth upon thee,As a flower shal be withered, when the heate shal rise that is sent forth vpon thee,Sicut flos siccabitur, cum exurget ardor, qui emissus est super te,

thou shalt be weakened as a little poor soul plagued and chastised of women, that the mighty and the lovers may not receive thee.thou shalt be weakned as a litle poore soule plaged and chastised of wemen, that the mightie and the louers may not receiue thee.infirmaberis ut paupercula plagata et castigata a mulieribus, ut non possint te suscipere potentes et amatores.

Will I be zealous against thee saith our Lord,Wil I be zealous against thee sayth our Lord,Numquid ego sic zelabor te, dicit Dominus,

unless thou hadst slain mine elect at all times, exalting the slaughter of the hands, and saying upon their death, when thou wast drunken.vnles thou hadst slayne myne elect at al times, exalting the slaughter of the handes, and saying vpon their death, when thou wast drunken.nisi occidisses electos meos in omni tempore, exaltatus percussionem manuum, et dicens super mortem eorum, cum inebriata esses,

Adorn the beauty of thy countenance.Adorne the beautie of thy countenance.Exorna speciem vultus tui ?

The reward of thy fornication is in thy bosom, therefore thou shalt receive recompense. The reward of thy fornication is in thy bosome, therefore thou shalt receiue recompence.Merces fornicationis tuæ in sinu tuo, propter hoc redditionem accipies.

As thou shalt do to my elect, saith our Lord, so shall God do to thee, and shall deliver thee unto evil.As thou shalt doe to my elect, sayth our Lord, so shal God do to thee, and shal deliuer thee vnto euil.Sicut facies electis meis, dicit Dominus, sic faciet tibi Deus, et tradet te in malum.

And thy children shall die for famine; and thou shalt fall by the sword, and thy cities shall be destroyed, and all thine shall fall in the field by the sword. And thy children shal dye for famine ; and thou shalt fal by the sword, and thy cities shal be destroyed, & al thyne shal fal in the filde by the sword.Et nati tui fame interient : et tu rhomphæa cades, et civitates tuæ conterentur, et omnes tui in campo gladio cadent.

And they that are in the mountains, shall perish, with famine, and shall eat their own flesh, and drink blood, for the famine of bread and thirst of waters. And they that are in the mountaines, shal perish, with famine, and shal eate their owne flesh, & drinke kloud, for the famine of bread and thirst of waters.

Unhappy by the seas shalt thou come, and again thou shalt receive evils.Vnhappie by the seas shalt thou come, and againe thou shalt receiue euils.

And in the passage they shall beat against the idle city, and shall destroy some portion of thy land, and shall deface part of thy glory, again returning to Babylon overthrown. And in the passage they shal beate against the idle citie, and shal destroy some portion of thy land, and shal deface part of thy glorie, againe returning to Babylon ouerthrowen.

And being thrown down thou shalt be to them for stubble, and they shall be to thee fire:And being throwen downe thou shalt be to them for stubble, and they shal be to thee fire :Et demolita eris illis pro stipula, et ipsi erunt tibi ignis :

and devour thee, and thy cities, thy land, and thy mountains, all thy woods and fruitful trees they will burn with fire.and deuoure thee, and thy cities, thy land, and thy mountaynes, al thy woodes and fruitful trees they wil burne with fire.et devorabunt te, et civitates tuas, terram tuam et montes tuos, omnes silvas tuas et lignum fructiferum igni comburent.

Thy children they shall lead captive, and shall have thy goods for a prey, and the glory of thy face they shall destroy.Thy children they shal lead captiue, & shal haue thy goodes for a praye, and the glorie of thy face they shal destroy.Filios tuos captivos ducent, et censum tuum in prædam habebunt, et gloriam faciei tuæ exterminabunt.
