And Eliseus the prophet called one of the children of the prophets, and said to him: Gird thy loins, and take this little box of oil in thy hand, and go into Ramoth Galaad.AND Eliseus the prophete called one of the children of the prophetes, and sayd to him: Girde thy loynes, and take this litle boxe of oyle in thy hand, and goe into Ramoth Galaad.✦Eliseus autem prophetes vocavit unum de filiis prophetarum, et ait illi : Accinge lumbos tuos, et tolle lenticulam olei hanc in manu tua, et vade in Ramoth Galaad.
And when thou shalt come thither, thou shalt see Jehu the son of Josaphat the son of Namsi: and going in thou shalt raise him out of the midst of his brethren, and shalt bring him into an inner chamber. And when thou shalt come thither, thou shalt see Iehu the sonne of Iosaphat the sonne of Namsi: and going in thou shalt rayse him out of the middes of his brethren, and shalt bring him into an inner chamber.✦Cumque veneris illuc, videbis Jehu filium Josaphat filii Namsi : et ingressus suscitabis eum de medio fratrum suorum, et introduces in interius cubiculum.
And holding the little box of oil, thou shalt pour upon his head, and shalt say: Thus saith our Lord: I have anointed thee king over Israel. And thou shalt open the door, and flee, and shalt not stay there. And holding the litle boxe of oyle, thou shalt powre vpon his head, and shalt say: Thus sayth our Lord: I haue anoynted thee king ouer Israel. And thou shalt open the doore, and flee, and shalt not stay there.
The young man therefore the child of a prophet went into Ramoth Galaad,The yongman therfore the childe of a prophete went into Ramoth Galaad,Abiit ergo adolescens puer prophetæ in Ramoth Galaad,
and entered in thither: and behold the captains of the army sat, and he said: I have a word to thee O prince: And Jehu said: to whom of us all? But he said: To thee O prince.and entered in thither: and behold the captaynes of the armie sate, and he sayd: I haue a word to thee o prince: And Iehu sayd: to whom of vs al? But he sayd: To thee o prince.et ingressus est illuc : ecce autem principes exercitus sedebant : et ait : Verbum mihi ad te, o princeps. Dixitque Jehu : Ad quem ex omnibus nobis ? At ille dixit : Ad te, o princeps.
And he arose, and went into the chamber: but he poured oil upon his head, and said: Thus saith our Lord the God of Israel: I have anointed thee king over the people of the Lord of Israel,And he arose, and went into the chamber: but he powred oyle vpon his head, and sayd: Thus sayth our Lord the God of Israel: I haue anoynted thee king ouer the people of the Lord of Israel,✦Et surrexit, et ingressus est cubiculum : at ille fudit oleum super caput ejus, et ait : Hæc dicit Dominus Deus Israël : Unxi te regem super populum Domini Israël,
and thou shalt strike the house of Achab thy master, and I will revenge the blood of my servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of the Lord of the hand of Jezabel.and thou shalt strike the house of Achab thy maister, and I wil reuenge the bloud of my seruantes the prophetes, and the bloud of al the seruantes of the Lord of the hand of Iezabel.et percuties domum Achab domini tui, et ulciscar sanguinem servorum meorum prophetarum, et sanguinem omnium servorum Domini de manu Jezabel.
And I will destroy all the house of Achab, and will kill of Achab him that pisseth against a wall, and the shut clausum: the confined, one held in custody, and the meanest in Israel. And I wil destroy al the house of Achab, and wil kil of Achab him that pisseth agaynst a wal, and the shut vp, and the meanest in Israel.
And I will make the house of Achab, as the house of Jeroboam the son of Nabat, and as the house of Baasa the son of Ahias. And I wil make the house of Achab, as the house of Ieroboam the sonne of Nabat, and as the house of Baasa the sonne of Ahias.Et dabo domum Achab sicut domum Jeroboam filii Nabat, et sicut domum Baasa filii Ahia.
Jezabel also the dogs shall eat in the field of Jezrahel, neither shall there be any to bury her. And he opened the door, and fled.Iezabel also the dogges shal eate in the field of Iezrahel, neither shal there be anie to burie her. And he opened the doore, and fled.
And Jehu went forth to his master's servants. Who said to him: Are all things well? Why came this mad man to thee? Who said to them: You know the man, and what he spake. And Iehu went forth to his maisters seruantes. Who said to him: Are al thinges wel? Why came this madde man to thee? Who sayd to them: You know the man, and what he spake.✦Jehu autem egressus est ad servos domini sui : qui dixerunt ei : Rectene sunt omnia ? quid venit insanus iste ad te ?
But they answered: It is false, but rather do thou tell us. Who said to them: Thus and thus he spake to me: and he said: Thus saith our Lord, I have anointed thee king over IsraelBut they answered: It is false, but rather doe thou tel vs. Who sayd to them: Thus and thus he spake to me: and he sayd: Thus sayth our Lord, I haue anoynted thee king ouer Israel✦At ille responderunt : Falsum est, sed magis narra nobis.
They therefore made haste, and every man taking his mantle laid it under his feet, after the similitude of a judgement seat, and they sounded the trumpet, and said: Jehu hath the kingdom. They therfore made hast, and euerie man taking his mantel layd it vnder his feete, after the similitude of a iudgement seate, & they sounded the trumpet, and sayd: Iehu hath the kingdom.✦Festinaverunt itaque, et unusquisque tollens pallium suum posuerunt sub pedibus ejus in similitudinem tribunalis, et cecinerunt tuba, atque dixerunt : Regnavit Jehu.
Jehu therefore the son of Josaphat the son of Namsi conspired against Joram: Moreover Joram had besieged Ramoth Galaad, he, and all Israel against Hazael the king of Syria:Iehu therfore the sonne of Iosaphat the sonne of Namsi conspired agaynst Ioram: Moreouer Ioram had besieged Ramoth Galaad, he, and al Israel agaynst Hazael the king of Syria:Conjuravit ergo Jehu filius Josaphat filii Namsi contra Joram : porro Joram obsederat Ramoth Galaad, ipse et omnis Israël contra Hazaël regem Syriæ :
and was returned to be cured in Jezrael of the wounds, for the Syrians had wounded him fighting against Hazael the king of Syria. And Jehu said: If it please you, let no man go forth fugitive out of the city, lest he go, and tell in Jezrahel.and was returned to be cured in Iezrael of the woundes, for the Syrians had wounded him fighting against Hazael the king of Syria. And Iehu sayd: If it please you, let no man goe forth fugitiue out of the citie, lest he goe, and tel in Iezrahel.et reversus fuerat ut curaretur in Jezrahel propter vulnera, quia percusserant eum Syri præliantem contra Hazaël regem Syriæ.
And he mounted, and went into Jezrahel: for Joram was sick there, and Ochozias the king of Juda was come down to visit Joram. And he mounted, and went into Iezrahel: for Ioram was sicke there, and Ochozias the king of Iuda was come downe to visite Ioram.
The watchman therefore, that stood upon the tower of Jezrahel, saw the troop of Jehu coming, and said: I see a troop. And Joram said: Take a chariot, and send to meet them, and let him that goeth say: Are all things well? The watchman therfore, that stood vpon the toure of Iezrahel, saw the troupe of Iehu coming, & said: I see a troupe. And Ioram said: Take a Chariote, and send to meete them, and let him that goeth say: Are al thinges wel?
He went therefore, that was gotten up into the chariot, to meet him, and said: Thus saith the king: Are all things peaceable? And Jehu said: What hast thou to do with peace? pass, and follow me. The watchman also told, saying: The messenger came to them, and returneth not.He went therfore, that was gotten vp into the chariote, to meete him, and sayd: Thus saith the king: Are al thinges peaceable? And Iehu sayd: What hast thou to doe with peace? passe, and folow me. The watchman also told, saying: The messenger came to them, & returneth not.✦Abiit ergo qui ascenderat currum, in occursum ejus, et ait : Hæc dicit rex : Pacatane sunt omnia ?
He sent also the second chariot of horses: and he came to them, and said: Thus saith the king: Is there peace? And Jehu said: What hast thou to do with peace? pass, and follow me.He sent also the second chariote of horses: and he came to them, and said: Thus sayth the king: Is there peace? And Iehu sayd: What hast thou to doe with peace? passe, and folow me.Misit etiam currum equorum secundum : venitque ad eos, et ait : Hæc dicit rex : Numquid pax est ? Et ait Jehu : Quid tibi et paci ? transi, et sequere me.
And the watchman told, saying: He is come as far as they, and returneth not: and it is the pace as it were the pace of Jehu the son of Namsi, for he goeth praeceps: at full speed, headlong. And the watchman told, saying: He is come as far as they, & returneth not: and it is the pace as it were the pace of Iehu the sonne of Namsi, for he goeth amayne.
And Joram said: Make ready the chariot. And they made ready his chariot, and Joram the king of Israel went forth, and Ochozias the king of Juda, each in their chariots, and they went forth to meet Jehu, and found him in the field of Naboth the Jezrahelite. And Ioram sayd: Make readie the chariote. And they made readie his chariote, and Ioram the king of Israel went forth, and Ochozias the king of Iuda, ech in their chariotes, and they went forth to meete Iehu, and found him in the field of Naboth the Iezrahelite.✦Et ait Joram : Junge currum.
And when Joram had seen Jehu, he said: Is there peace Jehu? But he answered: What peace? The fornications of Jezabel thy mother, and her many sorceries are in their vigour. And when Ioram had seene Iehu, he sayd: Is there peace Iehu? But he answered: What peace? The fornications of Iezabel thy mother, and her manie sorceries are in their vigour.✦Cumque vidisset Joram Jehu, dixit : Pax est, Jehu ? At ille respondit : Quæ pax ? adhuc fornicationes Jezabel matris tuæ, et veneficia ejus multa, vigent.
And Joram turned his hand, and fleeing said to Ochozias: Treason Ochozias. And Ioram turned his hand, and fleing sayd to Ochozias: Treason Ochozias.
Moreover Jehu bent his bow with his hand, and struck Joram between the shoulders: and the arrow went out through his heart, and immediately he fell in his chariot.Moreouer Iehu bent his bow with his hand, and stroke Ioram betwen the shoulders: and the arrow went out through his hart, and immediatly he fel in his chariote.
And Jehu said to captain Badacer: Take him, throw him forth in the field of Naboth the Jezrahelite: for I remember when I and thou sitting in a chariot did follow Achab this man's father, that our Lord lifted up this burden upon him, saying:And Iehu sayd to captaine Badacer: Take him, throwe him forth in the field of Naboth the Iezrahelite: for I remember when I and thou sitting in a chariote did folow Achab this mans father, that our Lord lifted vp this burden vpon him, saying:✦Dixitque Jehu ad Badacer ducem : Tolle, projice eum in agro Naboth Jezrahelitæ : memini enim quando ego et tu sedentes in curru sequebamur Achab patrem hujus, quod Dominus onus hoc levaverit super eum, dicens :
If not for the blood of Naboth, and for the blood of his children, which I saw yesterday, saith our Lord, I requite thee not in this field saith our Lord. Now therefore take him, and throw him into the field according to the word of our Lord.If not for the bloud of Naboth, and for the bloud of his children, which I saw yesterday, sayth our Lord, I requite thee not in this field sayth our Lord. Now therfore take him, and throw him into the field according to the word of our Lord.
But Ochozias the king of Juda seeing this, fled by the way of the house of the garden: and Jehu pursued him, and said: This man also strike ye in his chariot. And they struck him in the going up of Gaver, which is beside Jeblaam: who fled into Mageddo, and died there. But Ochozias the king of Iuda seing this, fled by the way of the house of the garden: and Iehu pursewed him, and said: This man also strike ye in his chariote. And they stroke him in the going vp of Gauer, which is beside Ieblaam: who fled into Mageddo, and died there.✦Ochozias autem rex Juda videns hoc, fugit per viam domus horti : persecutusque est eum Jehu, et ait : Etiam hunc percutite in curru suo. Et percusserunt eum in ascensu Gaver, qui est juxta Jeblaam : qui fugit in Mageddo, et mortuus est ibi.
And his servants laid him upon his chariot, and carried him into Jerusalem: and they buried him there in his sepulchre with his fathers in the City of David. And his seruantes layd him vpon his chariote, and caried him into Ierusalem: and they buried him there in his sepulchre with his fathers in the Citie of Dauid.Et imposuerunt eum servi ejus super currum suum, et tulerunt in Jerusalem : sepelieruntque eum in sepulchro cum patribus suis in civitate David.
In the eleventh year of Joram the son of Achab, reigned Ochozias over Juda,In the eleuenth yeare of Ioram the sonne of Achab, reigned Ochozias ouer Iuda,✦Anno undecimo Joram filii Achab, regnavit Ochozias super Judam,
and Jehu came into Jezrahel. Moreover Jezabel hearing of his entrance, painted her face with stibio: antimony, used as a black eye-paint stone, and decked her head, and beheld through the windowand Iehu came into Iezrahel. Moreouer Iezabel hearing of his entrance, paynted her face with stibicke stone, and decked her head, and beheld through the window✦venitque Jehu in Jezrahel.
Jehu coming at the gate, and said: Can there be peace to Zambri, that killed his master?Iehu coming at the gate, and sayd: Can there be peace to Zambri, that killed his maister?✦ingredientem Jehu per portam, et ait : Numquid pax potest esse Zambri, qui interfecit dominum suum ?
And Jehu lifted up his face to the window, and said: What is she? And two or three eunuchs bowed themselves to him.And Iehu lifted vp his face to the window, and sayd: What is she? And two or three eunuches bowed them selues to him.
But he said to them: Cast her down headlong, and they threw her down and the wall was sprinkled with the blood, and the hoofs of the horses trode her.But he sayd to them: Cast her downe headlong, & they threw her downe and the wal was sprinkled with the bloud, and the hoofes of the horses trode her.
And when he was entered in, to eat, and to drink, he said: Go, and see that cursed woman, and bury her: because she is a king's daughter. And when he was entered in, to eate, and to drinke, he sayd: Goe, and see that cursed woman, and burie her: because she is a kinges daughter.
And when they went to bury her, they found nothing but the skull, and the feet, and the extreme parts of the hands. And when they went to burie her, they found nothing but the skul, and the feete, and the extreme partes of the handes.
And returning they told him. And Jehu said: It is the word of our Lord, which he spake by his servant Elias the Thesbite, saying: In the field of Jezrahel shall the dogs eat the flesh of Jezabel,And returning they told him. And Iehu sayd: It is the word of our Lord, which he spake by his seruant Elias the Thesbite, saying: In the field of Iezrahel shal the dogges eate the flesh of Iezabel,Reversique nuntiaverunt ei.
and the flesh of Jezabel shall be as dung upon the face of the earth in the field of Jezrahel, so that they which pass by shall say: Is this that same Jezabel?and the flesh of Iezabel shal be as dung vpon the face of the earth in the field of Iezrahel, so that they which passe by shal say: Is this that same Iezabel?✦et erunt carnes Jezabel sicut stercus super faciem terræ in agro Jezrahel, ita ut prætereuntes dicant : Hæccine est illa Jezabel ?
