The Epistle vpõ SS. Peter and Paules eue. Iun 28.
And Peter and John went up into the temple, at the ninth hour of prayer.AND Peter and Iohn went vp into the temple, at the ninthe houre of praier.
2And a certain man that was lame from his mother's womb, was carried: whom they laid every day at the gate of the temple, that is called Speciosa: beautiful, comely, not deceptive or false, that he might ask alms of them that went into the temple. And a certaine man that vvas lame from his mothers vvombe, vvas caried : vvhom they laid euery day at the gate of the temple, that is called Specious, that he might aske almes of them that vvent into the temple.
3He, when he had seen Peter and John about to enter into the temple, asked to receive an alms. He, vvhen he had seen Peter and Iohn about to enter into the temple, asked to receiue an almes.
4But Peter with John looking upon him, said, Look upon us.But Peter vvith Iohn looking vpon him, said, Looke vpon vs.Intuens autem in eum Petrus cum Joanne, dixit : Respice in nos.
5But he looked earnestly upon them, hoping that he should receive some thing of them. But he looked earnestly vpon them, hoping that he should receiue some thing of them.At ille intendebat in eos, sperans se aliquid accepturum ab eis.
6But Peter said, Silver and gold I have not, but that which I have, the same I give to thee: In the name of JESUS CHRIST of Nazareth arise, and walk. But Peter said, Siluer and gold I haue not, but that vvhich I haue, the same I giue to thee : In the name of IESVS CHRIST of Nazareth arise, and vvalke.¶Petrus autem dixit : Argentum et aurum non est mihi : quod autem habeo, hoc tibi do : in nomine Jesu Christi Nazareni surge, et ambula.
7And taking his right hand, he lifted him up, and forthwith his feet and soles were made strong. And taking his right hand, he lifted him vp, and forthvvith his feete and soles vvere made strong.
8And springing he stood, and walked: and went in with them into the temple walking, and leaping, and praising God.And springing he stoode, and vvalked : and vvent in vvith them into the temple vvalking, and leaping, and praising God.Et exiliens stetit, et ambulabat : et intravit cum illis in templum ambulans, et exiliens, et laudans Deum.
9And all the people saw him walking and praising God.And al the people savv him vvalking and praising God.Et vidit omnis populus eum ambulantem et laudantem Deum.
10And they knew him, that, it was he which sate for alms at the Specious gate of the temple: and they were exceedingly astonished and aghast at that that had chanced to him.And they knevv him, that, it vvas he vvhich sate for almes at the Specious gate of the temple : and they vvere excedingly astonied and agast at that that had chaunced to him.
11And as he held Peter and John, all the people ran to them unto the porch which is called Solomon's, wondering. And as he held Peter and Iohn, al the people ranne to them vnto the porche vvhich is called Salomons, vvondering.
12But Peter seeing them, answered to the people, Ye men of Israel, why marvel you at this, or why look you upon us, as though by our power or holiness we have made this man to walk? But Peter seing them, ansvvered to the people, Ye men of Israel, vvhy maruel you at this, or vvhy looke you vpon vs, as though by our povver or holines vve haue made this man to vvalke?¶Videns autem Petrus, respondit ad populum : Viri Israëlitæ, quid miramini in hoc, aut nos quid intuemini, quasi nostra virtute aut potestate fecerimus hunc ambulare ?
13The God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, the God of our fathers hath glorified his son JESUS, whom you indeed delivered and denied before the face of Pilate, he judging him to be released. The God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Iacob, the God of our fathers hath glorified his sonne IESVS, vvhom you in deede deliuered and denied before the face of Pilate, he iudging him to be released.Deus Abraham, et Deus Isaac, et Deus Jacob, Deus patrum nostrorum glorificavit filium suum Jesum, quem vos quidem tradidistis, et negastis ante faciem Pilati, judicante illo dimitti.
14But you denied the holy and the just one, and asked a man-killer to be given unto you.But you denied the holy and the iust one,* and asked a man killer to be giuen vnto you.
15but the author of life you killed, whom God hath raised from the dead, of which we are witnesses.but the authour of life you killed, vvhom God hath raised from the dead, of vvhich vve are vvitnesses.auctorem vero vitæ interfecistis, quem Deus suscitavit a mortuis, cujus nos testes sumus.
16And in the faith of his name, this man whom you see and know, his name hath strengthened: and the faith which is by him, hath given this perfect health in the sight of all you.And in the faith of his name, this man vvhom you see and knovv, his name hath strengthened : & the faith vvhich is by him, hath giuen this perfect health in the sight of al you.
17And now (brethren) I know that you did it through ignorance, as also your princes. And novv (brethren) I knovv that you did it through ignorance, as also your princes.
18But God who foreshewed by the mouth of all the prophets, that his CHRIST should suffer, hath so fulfilled it.But God vvho foreshevved by the mouth of al the prophets, that his CHRIST should suffer, hath so fulfilled it.Deus autem, quæ prænuntiavit per os omnium prophetarum, pati Christum suum, sic implevit.
19Be penitent therefore and convert, that your sins may be put out.Be Penitent therfore & conuert, that your sinnes may be put out.Pœnitemini igitur et convertimini, ut deleantur peccata vestra :
20that, when the times shall come of refreshing by the sight of our Lord, and he shall send him that hath been preached unto you JESUS CHRIST,that, vvhen the times shal come of refreshing by the sight of our Lord, and he shal send him that hath been preached vnto you IESVS CHRIST,ut cum venerint tempora refrigerii a conspectu Domini, et miserit eum qui prædicatus est vobis, Jesum Christum,
21whom heaven truly must receive until the times of the restitutionis: restoration, re-establishment, not repayment of a debt of all things, which God spake by the mouth of his holy prophets from the beginning of the world.vvhom heauen truely must receiue vntil the times of the restitution of al things, vvhich God spake by the mouth of his holy prophets from the beginning of the vvorld.quem oportet quidem cælum suscipere usque in tempora restitutionis omnium quæ locutus est Deus per os sanctorum suorum a sæculo prophetarum.
22Moyses indeed said, That a prophet shall the Lord your God raise up to you of your brethren, as my self: him you shall hear according to all things whatsoever he shall speak to you.Moyses in deede said, That a prophet shal the Lord your God raise vp to you of your brethren, as my self: him you shal heare according to al things vvhatsoeuer he shal speake to you.Moyses quidem dixit : Quoniam prophetam suscitabit vobis Dominus Deus vester de fratribus vestris, tamquam me : ipsum audietis juxta omnia quæcumque locutus fuerit vobis.
23And it shall be, every soul that shall not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed out of the people. And it shal be, euery soule that shal not heare that prophet, shal be destroied out of the people.
24And all the Prophets from Samuel and afterward that have spoken, told of these days. And al the Prophets from Samuel and aftervvard that haue spoken, told of these daies.
25You are the children of the Prophets and of the testament which God made to our fathers, saying to Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed. You are the children of the Prophets and of the testament vvhich God made to our fathers, saying to Abraham, And in thy seede shal al the families of the earth be blessed.
26To you first God raising up his son, hath sent him blessing you: that every one should convert himself from his nequitia: wickedness, iniquity, not childish mischief. To you first God raising vp his sonne, hath sent him blessing you: that euery one should conuert him self from his naughtines.Vobis primum Deus suscitans filium suum, misit eum benedicentem vobis : ut convertat se unusquisque a nequitia sua.
Annotations
6That which I have. This power of working miracles was in Peter, and Peter properly did give this man his health, though he received that force and virtue of God, and in & by him executed the same. Therefore he saith, That which I have, I give to thee, and the Heretics are ridiculous that note here, a miracle done by Christ by the hands of the Apostles, to make the simple believe that they had no more to do then a dead instrument in the workman's hand.
12By our power. When the Apostles remit sins, or do any other miracles, they do it not by any humane, proper, or natural power in themselves: but of supernatural force given them from above, to prove that the faith of Christ is true, and that he is God whom the Jews crucified, in whose name and faith they work, and not in their own.
