Woe to them that go down into Egypt for help; hoping in horses, and having confidence upon chariots, because they be many: and upon horsemen, because they be very strong: and have not trusted upon the holy one of Israel, and have not sought after our Lord.VVOe to them that goe downe into Ægypt for helpe; hoping in horses, and hauing confidence vpon chariots, because they be manie: and vpon horsemen, because they be very strong: and haue not trusted vpon the holie one of Israel, & haue not sought after our Lord.✦Væ qui descendunt in Ægyptum ad auxilium, in equis sperantes, et habentes fiduciam super quadrigis, quia multæ sunt ; et super equitibus, quia prævalidi nimis ; et non sunt confisi super Sanctum Israël, et Dominum non requisierunt !

4Because thus saith our Lord to me: As if a lion should roar, and the lion's whelp upon his prey, and when a multitude of shepherds shall come against him, he will not fear at their voice, and of their multitude he will not be afraid: so shall the Lord of hosts descend, to fight upon mount Sion, and upon the little hill thereof.Because thus sayth our Lord to me: As if a lion should roare, and the lions whelpe vpon his praye, & when a multitude of shepheards shal come against him, he wil not feare at their voice, and of their multitude he wil not be afrayd: so shal the Lord of hostes descend, to fight vpon mount Sion, and vpon the litle hil therof.✦Quia hæc dicit Dominus ad me : Quomodo si rugiat leo et catulus leonis super prædam suam ; et cum occurrerit ei multitudo pastorum, a voce eorum non formidabit, et a multitudine eorum non pavebit : sic descendet Dominus exercituum ut prælietur super montem Sion et super collem ejus.
5As birds that fly, so will the Lord of hosts protect Jerusalem, protecting and delivering, passing and saving.As birdes that flie, so wil the Lord of hostes protect Ierusalem, protecting and deliuering, passing and sauing.✦Sicut aves volantes, sic proteget Dominus exercituum Jerusalem, protegens et liberans, transiens et salvans.
6Return as you revolted deeply O children of Israel.Returne as you reuolted deeply o children of Israel.✦Convertimini, sicut in profundum recesseratis, filii Israël.
7For in that day man shall cast away the idols of his silver, and the idols of his gold, which your hands have made you into sin.For in that day man shal cast away the idols of his siluer, and the idols of his gold, which your handes haue made you into sinne.✦In die enim illa abjiciet vir idola argenti sui, et idola auri sui, quæ fecerunt vobis manus vestræ in peccatum.
8And Assur shall fall by the sword not of man, and the sword not of man shall devour him, and he shall flee not at the face of the sword: and his young men shall be vectigales: subject peoples made to pay tribute, not river branches:And Assur shal fal by the sword not of man, and the sword not of man shal deuoure him, & he shal flee not at the face of the sword: and his yong men shal be tributaries:✦Et cadet Assur in gladio non viri, et gladius non hominis vorabit eum : et fugiet non a facie gladii, et juvenes ejus vectigales erunt.
9and his strength shall pass away at the terror, and his princes fleeing shall be afraid: our Lord hath said it: whose fire is in Sion, and his furnace in Jerusalem.and his strength shal passe away at the terrour, & his princes fleing shal be afrayd: our Lord hath sayd it: whose fyre is in Sion, & his fornace in Ierusalem.✦Et fortitudo ejus a terrore transibit, et pavebunt fugientes principes ejus, dixit Dominus : cujus ignis est in Sion et caminus ejus in Jerusalem.
