And it came to pass in the fourth year of Joakim, the son of Josias king of Juda: this word was made to Jeremie from our Lord, saying:AND it came to passe in the fourth yeare of Ioakim, the sonne of Iosias king of Iuda: this word was made to Ieremie from our Lord, saying:✦Et factum est in anno quarto Joakim filii Josiæ regis Juda, factum est verbum hoc ad Jeremiam a Domino, dicens :
Take a volumen: a written scroll or roll of a book and thou shalt write in it all the words, that I have spoken to thee against Israel and Juda, and against all Nations since the day that I spake to thee, from the days of Josias even to this day.Take a volume of a booke and thou shalt write in it al the wordes, that I haue spoken to thee against Israel and Iuda, & against al Nations since the day that I spake to thee, from the daies of Iosias euen to this day.✦Tolle volumen libri, et scribes in eo omnia verba quæ locutus sum tibi adversum Israël et Judam, et adversum omnes gentes, a die qua locutus sum ad te ex diebus Josiæ usque ad diem hanc :
If perhaps the house of Juda hearing all the evils, that I mean to do unto them, let every man return from his most wicked way: and I will be propitius: merciful, ready to pardon to their iniquity, and to their sin.If perhaps the house of Iuda hearing al the euils, that I meane to doe vnto them, let euerie man returne from his most wicked way: and I wil be propicious to their iniquitie, and to their sinne.si forte, audiente domo Juda universa mala quæ ego cogito facere eis, revertatur unusquisque a via sua pessima, et propitius ero iniquitati et peccato eorum.
Jeremie therefore called Baruch the son of Nerias: and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremie all the words of our Lord, which he spake to him, in the volume of the book.Ieremie therefore called Baruch the sonne of Nerias: and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Ieremie al the wordes of our Lord, which he spake to him, in the volume of the booke.✦Vocavit ergo Jeremias Baruch filium Neriæ : et scripsit Baruch ex ore Jeremiæ omnes sermones Domini quos locutus est ad eum, in volumine libri :
And Jeremie commanded Baruch, saying: I am shut up, neither am I able to go into the house of our Lord. And Ieremie commanded Baruch, saying: I am shut vp, neither am I able to goe into the house of our Lord.✦et præcepit Jeremias Baruch, dicens : Ego clausus sum, nec valeo ingredi domum Domini.
Go thou in therefore, and read out of the volume, wherein thou hast written from my mouth the words of our Lord, in the hearing of all the people in the house of our Lord on the fasting day: moreover also in the hearing of all Juda, which come out of their cities, thou shalt read it to them:Goe thou in therefore, and read out of the volume, wherein thou hast written from my mouth the wordes of our Lord, in the hearing of al the people in the house of our Lord on the fasting day: moreouer also in the hearing of al Iuda, which come out of their cities, thou shalt read it to them:✦Ingredere ergo tu, et lege de volumine in quo scripsisti ex ore meo verba Domini, audiente populo in domo Domini, in die jejunii : insuper et audiente universo Juda qui veniunt de civitatibus suis, leges eis,
if perhaps their prayer may fall in the sight of our Lord, and every one return from his most wicked way: because great is the fury and indignation, which our Lord hath spoken against this people.if perhaps their prayer may fal in the sight of our Lord, and euerie one returne from his most wicked way: because great is the furie & indignation, which our Lord hath spoken against this people.si forte cadat oratio eorum in conspectu Domini, et revertatur unusquisque a via sua pessima : quoniam magnus furor et indignatio est quam locutus est Dominus adversus populum hunc.
And Baruch the son of Nerias did according to all things, that Jeremie the prophet had commanded him, reading out of the volume the words of our Lord in the house of our Lord. And Baruch the sonne of Nerias did according to al thinges, that Ieremie the prophet had commanded him, reading out of the volume the wordes of our Lord in the house of our Lord.Et fecit Baruch filius Neriæ juxta omnia quæ præceperat ei Jeremias propheta, legens ex volumine sermones Domini in domo Domini.
And it came to pass in the fifth year of Joakim the son of Josias the king of Juda, in the ninth month: they proclaimed a fast in the sight of our Lord to all the people in Jerusalem, and to all the multitude, that was flocked together out of the cities of Juda in Jerusalem. And it came to passe in the fifth yeare of Ioakim the sonne of Iosias the king of Iuda, in the ninth moneth: they proclaymed a fast in the sight of our Lord to al the people in Ierusalem, and to al the multitude, that was flocked together out of the cities of Iuda in Ierusalem.✦Factum est autem in anno quinto Joakim filii Josiæ regis Juda, in mense nono : prædicaverunt jejunium in conspectu Domini omni populo in Jerusalem, et universæ multitudini quæ confluxerat de civitatibus Juda in Jerusalem.
And Baruch read out of the words of Jeremie in the house of our Lord, in the treasury of Gamarias the son of Saphan the scribe, in the higher court, in the entry of the new gate of the house of our Lord, all the people hearing it.And Baruch redde out of the wordes of Ieremie in the house of our Lord, in the treasurie of Gamarias the sonne of Saphan the scribe, in the higher court, in the entrie of the new gate of the house of our Lord, al the people hearing it.Legitque Baruch ex volumine sermones Jeremiæ in domo Domini, in gazophylacio Gamariæ filii Saphan scribæ, in vestibulo superiori, in introitu portæ novæ domus Domini, audiente omni populo.
And when Micheas the son of Gamarias the son of Saphan had heard all the words of our Lord out of the book:And when Micheas the sonne of Gamarias the sonne of Saphan had heard al the wordes of our Lord out of the booke:Cumque audisset Michæas filius Gamariæ filii Saphan omnes sermones Domini ex libro,
he went down into the king's house to the treasury of the scribe: and behold all the princes sat there, Elisama the scribe, and Dalaias the son of Semeias, and Elnathan the son of Achobor: and Gamarias the son of Saphan, and Sedecias the son of Hananias, and all the princes.he went downe into the kings house to the treasurie of the scribe: and behold al the princes sate there, Elisama the scribe, and Dalaias the sonne of Semeias, and Elnathan the sonne of Achobor: and Gamarias the sonne of Saphan, & Sedecias the sonne of Hananias, and al the princes.✦descendit in domum regis, ad gazophylacium scribæ, et ecce ibi omnes principes sedebant : Elisama scriba, et Dalaias filius Semeiæ, et Elnathan filius Achobor, et Gamarias filius Saphan, et Sedecias filius Hananiæ, et universi principes :
And Micheas told them all the words that he had heard Baruch reading out of the volume in the ears of the people. And Micheas told them al the wordes that he had heard Baruch reading out of the volume in the eares of the people.et nuntiavit eis Michæas omnia verba quæ audivit, legente Baruch ex volumine in auribus populi.
All the princes therefore sent to Baruch, Judi the son of Nathanias, the son of Selemias, the son of Chusi, saying: Take in thy hand the volume, out of which thou hast read in the hearing of the people, and come. Baruch therefore the son of Nerias took the volume in his hand, and came to them.Al the princes therefore sent to Baruch, Iudi the sonne of Nathanias, the sonne of Selemias, the sonne of Chusi, saying: Take in thy hand the volume, out of which thou hast redde in the hearing of the people, and come. Baruch therefore the sonne of Nerias tooke the volume in his hand, and came to them.Miserunt itaque omnes principes ad Baruch Judi filium Nathaniæ filii Selemiæ filii Chusi, dicentes : Volumen ex quo legisti, audiente populo, sume in manu tua, et veni. Tulit ergo Baruch filius Neriæ volumen in manu sua, et venit ad eos :
And they said to him: Sit, and read these things in our ears. And Baruch read in their ears. And they said to him: Sitte, & reade these thinges in our eares. And Baruch redde in their eares.et dixerunt ad eum : Sede, et lege hæc in auribus nostris. Et legit Baruch in auribus eorum.
Therefore when they had heard all the words, they were obstupuerunt: stunned, struck senseless every one toward his neighbour, and they said to Baruch: We must tell the king all these words. Therefore when they had heard al the wordes, they were astonied euerie one toward his neighbour, and they sayd to Baruch: We must tel the king al these wordes.Igitur cum audissent omnia verba, obstupuerunt unusquisque ad proximum suum, et dixerunt ad Baruch : Nuntiare debemus regi omnes sermones istos.
And they asked him, saying: Tell us how didst thou write all these words from his mouth. And they asked him, saying: Tel vs how didest thou write al these wordes from his mouth.Et interrogaverunt eum, dicentes : Indica nobis quomodo scripsisti omnes sermones istos ex ore ejus.
And Baruch said to them: From his mouth he spake as it were reading unto me all these words: and I wrote in a volume with ink.And Baruch sayd to them: From his mouth he spake as it were reading vnto me al these wordes: and I wrote in a volume with inke.✦Dixit autem eis Baruch : Ex ore suo loquebatur quasi legens ad me omnes sermones istos, et ego scribebam in volumine atramento.
And the princes said to Baruch: Go, and be hid thou and Jeremie, and let no man know where you are.And the princes sayd to Baruch: Goe, and be hidde thou and Ieremie, and let no man know where you are.✦Et dixerunt principes ad Baruch : Vade, et abscondere, tu et Jeremias, et nemo sciat ubi sitis.
And they went to the king into the court: moreover they laid up the volume in the treasury of Elisama the scribe: and they told all the words in the hearing of the king. And they went to the king into the court: moreouer they layde vp the volume in the treasurie of Elisama the scribe: and they tolde al the wordes in the hearing of the king.Et ingressi sunt ad regem in atrium : porro volumen commendaverunt in gazophylacio Elisamæ scribæ, et nuntiaverunt, audiente rege, omnes sermones.
And the king sent Judi, that he should take the volume: who taking it out of the treasury of Elisama the scribe, read it, the king hearing, and all the princes, that stood about the king. And the king sent Iudi, that he should take the volume: who taking it out of the treasurie of Elisama the scribe, redde it, the king hearing, and al the princes, that stood about the king.Misitque rex Judi ut sumeret volumen : qui tollens illud de gazophylacio Elisamæ scribæ, legit, audiente rege et universis principibus qui stabant circa regem.
And the king sat in the winter house in the ninth month: and there was an hearth set before him full of burning coals. And the king sate in the winter house in the ninth moneth: and there was an hearth set before him ful of burning coles.✦Rex autem sedebat in domo hiemali, in mense nono, et posita erat arula coram eo plena prunis.
And when Judi had read three or four pages, he cut it with the penknife of a scribe: and he cast it into the fire, that was upon the hearth, till all the volume was consumed with the fire, that was on the hearth. And when Iudi had redde three or foure pages, he cut it with the penknife of a scribe: and he cast it into the fire, that was vpon the hearth, til al the volume was consumed with the fyre, that was on the hearth.✦Cumque legisset Judi tres pagellas vel quatuor, scidit illud scalpello scribæ, et projecit in ignem qui erat super arulam, donec consumeretur omne volumen igni qui erat in arula.
And the king and all his servants, that heard all these words, did not fear, nor rent their garments. And the king and al his seruants, that heard al these wordes, did not feare, nor rent their garments.✦Et non timuerunt, neque sciderunt vestimenta sua, rex et omnes servi ejus qui audierunt universos sermones istos.
But yet Elnathan, and Dalaias, and Gamarias contradixerunt: contradicted, opposed the king, not to burn the book: and he heard them not.But yet Elnathan, and Dalaias, and Gamarias gaynesaid the king, not to burne the booke: and he heard them not.Verumtamen Elnathan, et Dalaias, et Gamarias, contradixerunt regi, ne combureret librum : et non audivit eos.
And the king commanded Jeremiel the son of Amelech, and Saraias the son of Ezriel, and Selemias the son of Abdeel, that they should apprehend Baruch the scribe, and Jeremie the Prophet: but our Lord hid them. And the king commanded Ieremiel the sonne of Amelech, and Saraias the sonne of Ezriel, and Selemias the sonne of Abdeel, that they should apprehend Baruch the scribe, and Ieremie the Prophet: but our Lord hid them.✦Et præcepit rex Jeremiel filio Amelech, et Saraiæ filio Ezriel, et Selemiæ filio Abdeel, ut comprehenderent Baruch scribam, et Jeremiam prophetam : abscondit autem eos Dominus.
And the word of our Lord was made to Jeremie the Prophet, after that the king had burnt the volume and the words, that Baruch had written from the mouth of Jeremie, saying:And the word of our Lord was made to Ieremie the Prophet, after that the king had burnt the volume and the wordes, that Baruch had written from the mouth of Ieremie, saying:Et factum est verbum Domini ad Jeremiam prophetam, postquam combusserat rex volumen et sermones quos scripserat Baruch ex ore Jeremiæ, dicens :
Again take another volume: and write in it all the former words, that were in the first volume, which Joakim the king of Juda hath burnt.Againe take an other volume: and write in it al the former wordes, that were in the first volume, which Ioakim the king of Iuda hath burnt.Rursum tolle volumen aliud, et scribe in eo omnes sermones priores qui erant in primo volumine, quod combussit Joakim rex Juda.
And to Joakim the king of Juda thou shalt say: Thus saith our Lord: Thou hast burnt that volume, saying: Why hast thou written in it telling: The king of Babylon will come in haste, and will waste this land: and he will make man and beast, to cease out of it?And to Ioakim the king of Iuda thou shalt say: Thus saith our Lord: Thou hast burnt that volume, saying: Why hast thou written in it telling: The king of Babylon wil come in hast, and wil waste this land: and he wil make man and beast, to cease out of it?✦Et ad Joakim regem Juda dices : Hæc dicit Dominus : Tu combussisti volumen illud, dicens : Quare scripsisti in eo annuntians : Festinus veniet rex Babylonis, et vastabit terram hanc, et cessare faciet ex illa hominem et jumentum ?
Therefore thus saith our Lord against Joakim the king of Juda: There shall not be of him to sit upon the throne of David: and his carcass shall be cast forth to the heat by day, and to the frost by night. Therefore thus saith our Lord against Ioakim the king of Iuda: There shal not be of him to sitte vpon the throne of Dauid: and his carcasse shal be cast forth to the heate by day, and to the frost by night.✦Propterea hæc dicit Dominus contra Joakim regem Juda : Non erit ex eo qui sedeat super solium David : et cadaver ejus projicietur ad æstum per diem, et ad gelu per noctem.
And I will visitabo: come against to punish against him, and against his seed, and against his servants their iniquities, and I will bring upon them, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and upon the men of Juda all the evil, that I have spoken to them: and they have not heard. And I wil visite against him, and against his seede, and against his seruants their iniquities, and I wil bring vpon them, and vpon the inhabitants of Ierusalem, and vpon the men of Iuda al the euil, that I haue spoken to them: and they haue not heard.✦Et visitabo contra eum, et contra semen ejus, et contra servos ejus, iniquitates suas : et adducam super eos, et super habitatores Jerusalem, et super viros Juda, omne malum quod locutus sum ad eos, et non audierunt.
And Jeremie took another volume, and gave it to Baruch the son of Nerias the scribe: who wrote in it from the mouth of Jeremie all the words of the book, which Joakim the king of Juda had burnt with fire: and there were added moreover many more words, than had been before. And Ieremie tooke an other volume, and gaue it to Baruch the sonne of Nerias the scribe: who wrote in it from the mouth of Ieremie al the wordes of the booke, which Ioakim the king of Iuda had burnt with fire: and there were added moreouer manie moe wordes, then had bene before.
