And king Sedecias the son of Josias reigned for Jechonias the son of Joakim: whom Nabuchodonosor the king of Babylon made king in the Land of Juda.AND king Sedecias the sonne of Iosias reigned for Iechonias the sonne of Ioakim: whom Nabuchodonosor the king of Babylon made king in the Land of Iuda.Et regnavit rex Sedecias filius Josiæ pro Jechonia filio Joakim, quem constituit regem Nabuchodonosor rex Babylonis in terra Juda :
And he obeyed not, he and his servants, and the people of the land the words of our Lord, that he spake in the hand of Jeremie the prophet. And he obeyed not, he and his seruants, and the people of the land the wordes of our Lord, that he spake in the hand of Ieremie the prophet.et non obedivit ipse, et servi ejus, et populus terræ, verbis Domini, quæ locutus est in manu Jeremiæ prophetæ.
And king Sedecias sent Juchal the son of Selemias, and Sophonias the son of Maasias priest to Jeremie the prophet, saying: Pray the Lord our God for us.And king Sedecias sent Iuchal the sonne of Selemias, and Sophonias the sonne of Maasias priest to Ieremie the prophet, saying: Pray the Lord our God for vs.Et misit rex Sedecias Juchal filium Selemiæ, et Sophoniam filium Maasiæ, sacerdotem, ad Jeremiam prophetam, dicens : Ora pro nobis Dominum Deum nostrum.
And Jeremie walked freely in the midst of the people: for they had not cast him into custodiam: custody, confinement in prison. Therefore the army of Pharao came out of Egypt: and the Chaldees that besieged Jerusalem, hearing such tidings, retired from Jerusalem. And Ieremie walked freely in the middes of the people: for they had not cast him into ward in prison. Therefore the armie of Pharao came out of Ægypt: and the Chaldees that besieged Ierusalem, hearing such tydinges, retyred from Ierusalem.
And the word of our Lord was made to Jeremie the prophet, saying:And the word of our Lord was made to Ieremie the prophet, saying:Et factum est verbum Domini ad Jeremiam prophetam, dicens :
Thus saith our Lord the God of Israel: Thus shall you say to the king of Juda, which sent you to demand of me: Behold the army of Pharao, which is come forth to help you, shall return into his land into Egypt. Thus saith our Lord the God of Israel: Thus shal you say to the king of Iuda, which sent you to demand of me: Behold the armie of Pharao, which is come forth to helpe you, shal returne into his land into Ægypt.✦Hæc dicit Dominus Deus Israël : Sic dicetis regi Juda, qui misit vos ad me interrogandum : Ecce exercitus Pharaonis, qui egressus est vobis in auxilium, revertetur in terram suam in Ægyptum :
And the Chaldees shall return, and make war against this city, and take it, and burn it with fire. And the Chaldees shal returne, and make warre against this citie, and take it, and burne it with fire.et redient Chaldæi, et bellabunt contra civitatem hanc, et capient eam, et succendent eam igni.
Thus saith our Lord: Deceive not your souls, saying: The Chaldees going shall go away, and retire from us, because they shall not go away. Thus saith our Lord: Deceiue not your soules, saying: The Chaldees going shal goe away, and retyre from vs, because they shal not goe away.✦Hæc dicit Dominus : Nolite decipere animas vestras, dicentes : Euntes abibunt, et recedent a nobis Chaldæi : quia non abibunt.
But if you shall strike all the host of the Chaldees, that fight against you, and there be left of them some wounded: every one shall rise up out of his tent, and shall burn this city with fire. But if you shal strike al the host of the Chaldees, that fight against you, and there be left of them some wounded: euerie one shal rise vp out of his tent, and shal burne this citie with fire.✦Sed etsi percusseritis omnem exercitum Chaldæorum qui præliantur adversum vos, et derelicti fuerint ex eis aliqui vulnerati, singuli de tentorio suo consurgent, et incendent civitatem hanc igni.
Therefore when the army of the Chaldees was retired from Jerusalem, because of Pharao's army:Therefore when the armie of the Chaldees was retyred from Ierusalem, because of Pharaos armie:Ergo cum recessisset exercitus Chaldæorum ab Jerusalem, propter exercitum Pharaonis,
Jeremie went out of Jerusalem to go into the land of Benjamin, and to divide possession there in the sight of the citizens.Ieremie went out of Ierusalem to goe into the land of Beniamin, and to diuide possession there in the sight of the citizens.✦egressus est Jeremias de Jerusalem ut iret in terram Benjamin, et divideret ibi possessionem in conspectu civium.
And when he was come to the gate of Benjamin, there was there the keeper of the gate by course, one named Jerias, the son of Selemias, the son of Hananias: and he apprehended Jeremie the prophet, saying: Thou fleest to the Chaldees. And when he was come to the gate of Beniamin, there was there the keeper of the gate by course, one named Ierias, the sonne of Selemias, the sonne of Hananias: and he apprehended Ieremie the prophet, saying: Thou fleest to the Chaldees.✦Cumque pervenisset ad portam Benjamin, erat ibi custos portæ per vices, nomine Jerias filius Selemiæ filii Hananiæ : et apprehendit Jeremiam prophetam, dicens : Ad Chaldæos profugis.
And Jeremie answered: It is not so, I flee not to the Chaldees. And he heard him not: but took Jeremie, and brought him to the princes. And Ieremie answered: It is not so, I flee not to the Chaldees. And he heard him not: but tooke Ieremie, and brought him to the princes.Et respondit Jeremias : Falsum est : non fugio ad Chaldæos. Et non audivit eum, sed comprehendit Jerias Jeremiam, et adduxit eum ad principes :
For which thing the princes being angry against Jeremie, they beat him, and cast him into the prison that was in the house of Jonathan the scribe: for he was chief over the prison. For which thing the princes being angrie against Ieremie, they beate him, and cast him into the prison that was in the house of Ionathan the scribe: for he was chiefe ouer the prison.quam ob rem irati principes contra Jeremiam, cæsum eum miserunt in carcerem qui erat in domo Jonathan scribæ : ipse enim præpositus erat super carcerem.
Jeremie therefore went into the house of the laci: the pit, the dungeon, not a body of standing water, and into the dungeon: and Jeremie sat there many days.Ieremie therefore went into the house of the lake, and into the dungeon: and Ieremie sate there manie daies.✦Itaque ingressus est Jeremias in domum laci et in ergastulum : et sedit ibi Jeremias diebus multis.
But Sedecias the king sending took him: and demanded of him in his house secretly, and said: Thinkest thou the word is from our Lord? And Jeremie said: It is. And he said: Thou shalt be delivered into the hands of the king of Babylon. But Sedecias the king sending tooke him: and demanded of him in his house secretly, and said: Thinkest thou the word is from our Lord? And Ieremie said: It is. And he said: Thou shalt be deliuered into the handes of the king of Babylon.✦Mittens autem Sedecias rex, tulit eum : et interrogavit eum in domo sua abscondite, et dixit : Putasne est sermo a Domino ? Et dixit Jeremias : Est : et ait : In manus regis Babylonis traderis.
And Jeremie said to king Sedecias, what have I sinned against thee, and thy servants, and thy people; that thou hast cast me into the prison house? And Ieremie said to king Sedecias, what haue I sinned against thee, and thy seruants, and thy people; that thou hast cast me into the prison house?Et dixit Jeremias ad regem Sedeciam : Quid peccavi tibi, et servis tuis, et populo tuo, quia misisti me in domum carceris ?
Where are your prophets that did prophesy to you, and said: The king of Babylon shall not come upon you and upon this land?Where are your prophetes that did prophecie to you, and said: The king of Babylon shal not come vpon you and vpon this land?✦ubi sunt prophetæ vestri, qui prophetabant vobis, et dicebant : Non veniet rex Babylonis super vos, et super terram hanc ?
Now therefore hear I beseech thee my Lord king: let my petition be valeat: effective, prevailing: not obtainable in thy sight: and send me not back into the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there. Now therefore heare I beseech thee my Lord king: let my petition be auailable in thy sight: and send me not back into the house of Ionathan the scribe, lest I dye there.✦Nunc ergo audi, obsecro, domine mi rex : valeat deprecatio mea in conspectu tuo, et ne me remittas in domum Jonathan scribæ, ne moriar ibi.
King Sedecias therefore commanded that Jeremie should be committed in the entry of the prison: and there should be given him a piece of bread every day, beside broth, till all the bread were spent out of the city: and Jeremie remained in the entry of the prison.King Sedecias therefore commanded that Ieremie should be committed in the entrie of the prison: and there should be geuen him a peece of bread euerie day, beside brothe, til al the bread were spent out of the citie: and Ieremie remayned in the entrie of the prison.✦Præcepit ergo rex Sedecias ut traderetur Jeremias in vestibulo carceris, et daretur ei torta panis quotidie, excepto pulmento, donec consumerentur omnes panes de civitate : et mansit Jeremias in vestibulo carceris.
