The Jews (of Jerusalem) seeking his death, he walketh in Galilee: where he signifieth to his brethren, that not in this feast Scenopegia, but in an other (to wit, Pasch following) the Jews should kill him: that is, not when they would, but when he will. 10 In so much that at this feast he teacheth openly in the Temple, and converteth many. 14 both in the middle day 37 and the last day thereof, without any hurt, though also the Rulers send to apprehend him.The Iewes (of Hierusalem) seeking his death, he walketh in Galilee: where he signifieth to his brethren, that not in this feast Scenopégia, but in an other (to wit, Pasche folowing) the Iewes should kil him: that is, not when they would, but when he wil. 10 In so much that at this feast he teacheth openly in the Temple, and conuerteth many. 14 both in the middle day 37 and the last day thereof, without any hurt, though also the Rulers send to apprehend him.
After these things JESUS walked into Galilee, for he would not walk into Judæam: Judea, the land of the Jews: because the Jews sought to kill him.AFTER these things IESVS walked into Galilee', for he would not walke into Iewrie': because the Iewes sought to kil him.
And the festival day of the Jews, Scenopegia: the feast of Tabernacles, when the Jews dwelt in tents, was at hand. And the festiual day of the Iewes, * Scenopégia, was at hand.Erat autem in proximo dies festus Judæorum, Scenopegia.
And his brethren said to him, Pass from hence, and go into Jewry: that thy Disciples also may see thy works which thou dost. And his brethren said to him, Passe from hence, and goe into Iewrie: that thy Disciples also may see thy workes which thou doest.
For no man doeth any thing in secret, and seeketh himself to be in public. If thou do these things, manifest thyself to the world. For no man doeth any thing in secrete, and seeketh him self to be in publike. If thou doe these things, manifest thy self to the world.
For neither did his brethren believe in him.For neither did his brethren beleeue in him.Neque enim fratres ejus credebant in eum.
Jesus therefore saith to them, My time is not yet come: but your time is always ready.IESVS therfore saith to them, My time is not yet come: but your time is alwaies readie.Dicit ergo eis Jesus : Tempus meum nondum advenit : tempus autem vestrum semper est paratum.
The world can not hate you. but me it hateth: because I give testimony of it, that the works there of are evil. The world can not hate you. but me it hateth: because I giue testimonie of it, that the workes there of are euil.
Go you up to this festival day: I go not up to this festival day: because my time is not yet accomplished.Goe you vp to this festiual day: I goe not vp' to this festiual day: because my time is not yet accomplished.
when he had said these things, himself mansit: stayed, remained, lingered in Galilee.when he had said these things, him self taried in Galilee.Hæc cum dixisset, ipse mansit in Galilæa.
But after his brethren were gone up, then he also went up to the festival day, not openly, but as it were in secret. But after his brethren were gone vp, then he also went vp to the festiual day, not openly, but as it were in secrete.
The Jews therefore sought him in the festival day, and said, Where is he?The Iewes therfore sought him in the festiual day, and said, Where is he?Judæi ergo quærebant eum in die festo, et dicebant : Ubi est ille ?
And there was much murmuring in the multitude of him. For certain said, That he is good. And others said, No, but he seducit: leadeth astray, deceiveth, not in the carnal sense the multitudes. And there was much murmuring in the multitude of him. For certaine said, That he is good. And others said, No, but he seduceth the multitudes.Et murmur multum erat in turba de eo. Quidam enim dicebant : Quia bonus est. Alii autem dicebant : Non, sed seducit turbas.
Yet no man spake openly of him for fear of the Jews.Yet no man spake openly of him for feare of the Iewes.Nemo tamen palam loquebatur de illo propter metum Judæorum.
And when the festivity was now half done, JESUS went up into the temple, and taught,And when the festiuitie was now halfe done, IESVS went vp into the temple, and taught,Jam autem die festo mediante, ascendit Jesus in templum, et docebat.
And the Jews marvelled, saying, How doth this man know letters, whereas he hath not learned? And the Iewes marueiled, saying, How doth this man know letters, whereas he hath not learned?
Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrina: teaching, instruction (the broad sense of Latin doctrina) is not mine, but his that sent me.IESVS answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.Respondit eis Jesus, et dixit : Mea doctrina non est mea, sed ejus qui misit me.
If any man will do the will of him, he shall understand of the doctrine whether it be of God, or I speak of myself. If any man wil doe the wil of him, he shal vnderstand of the doctrine whether it be of God, or I speake of my self.Si quis voluerit voluntatem ejus facere, cognoscet de doctrina, utrum ex Deo sit, an ego a meipso loquar.
He that speaketh of himself, seeketh his own glory. But he that seeketh the glory of him that sent him, he is true, and injustice in him there is not.He that speaketh of him self, seeketh his owne glorie. But he that seeketh the glorie of him that sent him, he is true, and iniustice in him there is not.
Did not Moyses give you the law, and none of you doeth the law?Did not Moyses giue you the law, and none of you doeth the law?
Why seek you to kill me? The multitude answered, and said, Thou hast a devil, who seeketh to kill thee?* Why seeke you to kil me? The multitude answered, and said, Thou hast a deuil, who seeketh to kil thee?Quid me quæritis interficere ? Respondit turba, et dixit : Dæmonium habes : quis te quærit interficere ?
Jesus answered, and said to them, One work I have done: and you do all marvel.IESVS answered, and said to them, One worke I haue done: and you doe al marueil.Respondit Jesus et dixit eis : Unum opus feci, et omnes miramini :
Therefore Moyses gave you circumcision: not that it is of Moyses, but of the fathers, and in the Sabbath you circumcise a man.Therfore * Moyses gaue you circuncision: not that it is of Moyses, but * of the fathers, and in the Sabboth you circuncise a man.propterea Moyses dedit vobis circumcisionem (non quia ex Moyse est, sed ex patribus), et in sabbato circumciditis hominem.
If a man receive circumcision in the Sabbath, that the law of Moyses be not broken: are you angry at me because I have healed a man wholly in the Sabbath? If a man receiue circuncision in the Sabboth, that the law of Moyses be not broken: are you angrie at me because I haue healed a man wholy in the Sabboth?
Judge not according to the face, but judge justum: right, righteous (judgement); not by outward appearance judgement.Iudge not according to the face, but iudge iust iudgement.Nolite judicare secundum faciem, sed justum judicium judicate.
Certain therefore of Jerusalem said, Is not this he whom they seek to kill?Certaine therfore of Hierusalem said, Is not this he whom they seeke to kil?
And behold, he speaketh openly, and they say nothing to him. Have the Princes known in deed that this is CHRIST?And behold, he speaketh openly, and they say nothing to him. Haue the Princes knowen in deede that this is CHRIST?et ecce palam loquitur, et nihil ei dicunt. Numquid vere cognoverunt principes quia hic est Christus ?
But this man we know whence he is But when CHRIST cometh, no man knoweth whence he is.But this man we know whence he is But when CHRIST commeth, no man knoweth whence he is.Sed hunc scimus unde sit : Christus autem cum venerit, nemo scit unde sit.
Jesus therefore cried in the temple teaching, and saying, Both me you do know, and whence I am you know. And of myself I am not come, but he is true that sent me, whom you know not.IESVS therfore cried in the temple teaching, and saying, Both me you doe know, and whence I am you know. And of my self I am not come, but he is true that sent me, whom you know not.Clamabat ergo Jesus in templo docens, et dicens : Et me scitis, et unde sim scitis : et a meipso non veni, sed est verus qui misit me, quem vos nescitis.
I know him, because I am of him, and he sent me.I know him, because I am of him, and he sent me.Ego scio eum : quia ab ipso sum, et ipse me misit.
They sought therefore to apprehendere: seize, lay hold of, arrest, not "understand" him: and no man laid hands upon him, because his hour was not yet come. They sought therfore to apprehend him: and no man laide handes vpon him, because his houre was not yet come.Quærebant ergo eum apprehendere : et nemo misit in illum manus, quia nondum venerat hora ejus.
But of the multitude many believed in him, and said, CHRIST when he cometh, shall he do more signs then these which this man doeth? But of the multitude many beleeued in him, and said, CHRIST when he commeth, shal he doe more signes then these which this man doeth?
The Pharisees heard the multitude murmuring these things touching him: and the Princes and Pharisees sent ministros: servants, attendants, officers (not clergymen or officials) to apprehend him.The Pharisees heard the multitude murmuring these things touching him: and the Princes' and Pharisees sent ministers to apprehend him.
Jesus therefore said to them, Yet a little time I am with you: and I go to him that sent me.IESVS therfore said to them, Yet a litle time I am with you: and I goe to him that sent me.Dixit ergo eis Jesus : Adhuc modicum tempus vobiscum sum : et vado ad eum qui me misit.
You seek me, and shall not find: and where I am, you can not come.* You seeke me, and shal not finde: and where I am, you can not come.
The Jews therefore said among themselves, Whither will this man go, that we shall. not find him? Will he go into the dispersionem: the Diaspora, the Jews scattered abroad among the Gentiles of the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles? The Iewes therfore said among them selues, Whither wil this man goe, that we shal. not finde him? Wil he goe into the dispersion of the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles?
What is this saying that he hath said, You shall seek me, and shall not find: And where I am, you can not come. What is this saying that he hath said, You shal seeke me, and shal not finde: And where I am, you can not come.quis est hic sermo, quem dixit : Quæretis me, et non invenietis : et ubi sum ego, vos non potestis venire ?
And in the last, the great day of the festivity JESUS stood, and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come to me, and drink. And in the last, the * great day of the festiuitie IESVS stoode, and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come to me, and drinke.
He that believeth in me, as the scripture saith, Out of his ventre: the inmost being, the inward part, not the stomach merely shall flow rivers of living water. He that beleeueth in me, as the scripture saith, Out of his belly shal flow riuers of liuing water.Qui credit in me, sicut dicit Scriptura, flumina de ventre ejus fluent aquæ vivæ.
(And this he said of the Spirit that they should receive which believed in him. for as yet the Spirit was not given: because JESUS was not yet glorified.)(And this he said * of the Spirit that they should receiue which beleeued in him. for as yet the Spirit was not giuen: because IESVS was not yet glorified.)Hoc autem dixit de Spiritu, quem accepturi erant credentes in eum : nondum enim erat Spiritus datus, quia Jesus nondum erat glorificatus.
Of that multitude therefore, when they had heard these words of his, some said, This is the Prophet in deed.Of that multitude therfore, when they had heard these wordes of his, some said, This is the Prophet in deede.
others said, This is CHRIST. But certain said, Why, doth CHRIST come from Galilee?others said, This is CHRIST. But certaine said, Why, doth CHRIST come from Galilee?Alii dicebant : Hic est Christus. Quidam autem dicebant : Numquid a Galilæa venit Christus ?
Doth not the scripture say, that of the seed of David, and from Bethlehem the town where David was, CHRIST doth come?Doth not the * scripture say, that of the seede of Dauid, and from Bethlehem the towne where Dauid was, CHRIST doth come?nonne Scriptura dicit : Quia ex semine David, et de Bethlehem castello, ubi erat David, venit Christus ?
Therefore there arose dissension in the multitude for him.Therfore there arose dissension in the multitude for him.Dissensio itaque facta est in turba propter eum.
And certain of them would have apprehended him: but no man laid hands upon him.And certaine of them would haue apprehended him: but no man laid handes vpon him.
The ministers therefore came to the chief priests and the Pharisees. And they said to them, Why have you not brought him?The ministers therfore came to the cheefe priests and the Pharisees. And they said to them, Why haue you not brought him?
The ministers answered, Never did there man so speak, as this man.The ministers answered, Neuer did there man so speake, as this man.Responderunt ministri : Numquam sic locutus est homo, sicut hic homo.
The Pharisees therefore answered them, Why, are you also seduced? The Pharisees therfore answered them, Why, are you also seduced?Responderunt ergo eis pharisæi : Numquid et vos seducti estis ?
Hath any of the Princes believed in him, or of the Pharisees?Hath any of the Princes beleeued in him, or of the Pharisees?numquid ex principibus aliquis credidit in eum, aut ex pharisæis ?
but this multitude that knoweth not the law, are accursed.but this multitude that knoweth not the law, are accursed.sed turba hæc, quæ non novit legem, maledicti sunt.
Nicodemus said to them, he that came to him by night, who was one of them,Nicodemus said to them, he * that came to him by night, who was one of them,Dixit Nicodemus ad eos, ille qui venit ad eum nocte, qui unus erat ex ipsis :
Doth our law judge a man, unless it first hear him, and know what he doeth?Doth our law iudge a man, vnles it first heare him, and know what he doeth?Numquid lex nostra judicat hominem, nisi prius audierit ab ipso, et cognoverit quid faciat ?
They answered, and said to him, Why, art thou also a Galilean? Search, and see that from Galilee a Prophet riseth not. They answered, and said to him, Why, art thou also a Galilaean? Search, and see that from Galilee a Prophet riseth not.
And every man returned to his house. And euery man returned to his house.Et reversi sunt unusquisque in domum suam.
