But the children of Israel transgressed the commandment, and took unlawfully, laid hold of (here wrongfully), not seized sovereign power · Vulgate: usurpaverunt of the a thing accursed and devoted to destruction, not merely a curse or excommunication · Vulgate: anathema. 7and Josue said: Alas O Lord God, why wouldst thou bring this people over the river of Jordan, to deliver us into the hands of the Amorrhite, and to destroy us? would God as we began, we had tarried beyond Jordan.and Iosue said: Alas ô Lord God, why wouldest thou bring this people ouer the riuer of Iordan, to deliuer vs into the handes of the Amorrheite, and to destroy vs? would God as we beganne, we had taried beyond Iordan.et dixit Josue : Heu Domine Deus, quid voluisti traducere populum istum Jordanem fluvium, ut traderes nos in manus Amorrhæi, et perderes ? utinam ut cœpimus, mansissemus trans Jordanem.

25where Josue said: Because thou hast disturbed us, our Lord disturb thee in this day. 26And gathered together upon him a great heap of stones, which remaineth until this present day. And the fury of our Lord was averted from them.
