Devout women not finding his body in the Sepulchre, 4. Angels tell them that he is risen according to his own prediction. 9. yet the Apostles will not believe it. 12. But neither Peter findeth his body there. 13. He walketh with two Disciples declaring all this unto them out of the Scriptures, and is known of them by breaking of bread. 36. The same day he appeareth to the Apostles being together, in sight of them, and eateth with them, 44. finally teaching them out of the Scriptures not only of his Passion and Resurrection, 47. but also of his Catholic Church, 49. he promiseth the Holy Ghost to confirm them, 50. and so ascendeth into Heaven.Deuout women not finding his body in the Sepulchre, 4. And in the first of the Sabbathsabbati: the first day of the week, Sunday, the day after the sabbath rest: not the sabbath itself very early they came to the monumentmonumentum: the tomb, sepulchre: not a statue or memorial, carrying the spices which they had prepared.AND in the first of the Sabboth very early they came to the monument, carying the spices which they had prepared.Una autem sabbati valde diluculo venerunt ad monumentum, portantes quæ paraverant aromata :

⁷saying: That the Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinners, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.saying: That the Sonne of man must be deliuered into the handes of sinners, and be crucified, and the third day rise againe.dicens : Quia oportet Filium hominis tradi in manus hominum peccatorum, et crucifigi, et die tertia resurgere.

⁸And they remembered his words.And they remembred his wordes.Et recordatæ sunt verborum ejus.

¹¹And these words seemed before them as dotagedeliramentum: idle nonsense, raving talk: not senility: and they did not believe them.And these wordes seemed before them as dotage: and they did not beleeue them.Et visa sunt ante illos sicut deliramentum verba ista, et non crediderunt illis.

¹⁶but their eyes were held that they might not know him.but their eyes were held that they might not know him.oculi autem illorum tenebantur ne eum agnoscerent.

¹⁷And he said to them: What are these communications that you confer one with another walking, and are sad?And he said to them: What are these communications that you conferre one with another walking, and are sad?Et ait ad illos : Qui sunt hi sermones, quos confertis ad invicem ambulantes, et estis tristes ?

¹⁸And one whose name was Cleophas, answering, said to him: Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things that have been done in it these days?And one whose name was Cleophas, answering, said to him: Art thou only a stranger in Hierusalem, and hast not knowen the things that haue been done in it these daies?Et respondens unus, cui nomen Cleophas, dixit ei : Tu solus peregrinus es in Jerusalem, et non cognovisti quæ facta sunt in illa his diebus ?

¹⁹To whom he said: What things? And they said, concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a man a Prophet, mighty in work and word before God and all the people:To whom he said: What things? ²⁶Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and so to enter into his glory?Ought not Christ to haue suffred these things, and so to enter into his glorie?Nonne hæc oportuit pati Christum, et ita intrare in gloriam suam ?

³⁴saying: That our Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon.saying: That our Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon.dicentes : Quod surrexit Dominus vere, et apparuit Simoni.

³⁶And whiles they speak these things, Jesus stood in the midst of them, and he saith to them: Peace be to you; it is I, fear not.And whiles they speake these things, IESVS stood in the middes of them, and he saith to them: Peace be to you; it is I, feare not.Dum autem hæc loquuntur, stetit Jesus in medio eorum, et dicit eis : Pax vobis : ego sum, nolite timere.

³⁹see my hands and feet, that it is I myself: handlepalpate: touch, feel, and see; for a Spirit hath not flesh and bones, as you see me to have.see my handes and feete, that it is I my selfe: handle, and see; for a Spirit hath not flesh and bones, as you see me to haue.videte manus meas, et pedes, quia ego ipse sum ; palpate et videte, quia spiritus carnem et ossa non habet, sicut me videtis habere.

⁴⁰And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet.And when he had said this, he shewed them his handes and feete.Et cum hoc dixisset, ostendit eis manus et pedes.

⁴¹But they yet not believing and marveling for joy, he said: Have you here any thing to be eaten?But they yet not beleeuing and marueling for ioy, he said: Haue you here any thing to be eaten?Adhuc autem illis non credentibus, et mirantibus præ gaudio, dixit : Habetis hic aliquid quod manducetur ?

⁴²But they offered him a piece of a fish broiled, and a honeycomb.But they offered him a peece of a fish broiled, and a honie combe.At illi obtulerunt ei partem piscis assi et favum mellis.

⁴³And when he had eaten before them, taking the remains he gave to them.And when he had eaten before them, taking the remaines he gaue to them.Et cum manducasset coram eis, sumens reliquias dedit eis.

⁴⁴And he said to them: These are the words which I spake to you, when I was yet with you, that all things must needs be fulfilled, which are written in the law of Moyses, and the Prophets, and the Psalms of me.And he said to them: These are the wordes which I spake to you, when I was yet with you, that al things must needes be fulfilled, which are written in the law of Moyses, and the Prophets, and the Psalmes of me.Et dixit ad eos : Hæc sunt verba quæ locutus sum ad vos cum adhuc essem vobiscum, quoniam necesse est impleri omnia quæ scripta sunt in lege Moysi, et prophetis, et Psalmis de me.

⁴⁷and penancepœnitentiam: repentance with its fruits, the sacrament: not mere regret to be preached in his name and remission of sins unto all nations, beginning from Jerusalem.and penance to be preached in his name and remission of sinnes vnto al Nations, beginning from Hierusalem.et prædicari in nomine ejus pœnitentiam, et remissionem peccatorum in omnes gentes, incipientibus ab Jerosolyma.

⁴⁸And you are witnesses of these things.And you are witnesses of these things.Vos autem testes estis horum.

⁴⁹And I send the promise of my Father upon you: but sit you in the city, till you be enduedinduamini: clothed, invested with power from high.And I send the promise of my Father vpon you: but sit you in the citie, til you be indued with power from high.Et ego mitto promissum Patris mei in vos ; vos autem sedete in civitate, quoadusque induamini virtute ex alto.

⁵⁰And he brought them forth abroad into Bethania: and lifting up his hands he blessed them.And he brought them forth abrode into Bethania: and lifting vp his handes he blessed them.Eduxit autem eos foras in Bethaniam, et elevatis manibus suis benedixit eis.

⁵¹And it came to pass, whiles he blessed them, he departed from them, and was carried into Heaven.And it came to passe, whiles he blessed them, he departed from them, and was caried into Heauen.Et factum est, dum benediceret illis, recessit ab eis, et ferebatur in cælum.

⁵²And they adoring went back into Jerusalem with great joy:And they adoring went backe into Hierusalem with great ioy:Et ipsi adorantes regressi sunt in Jerusalem cum gaudio magno :

⁵³and they were always in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.and they were alwaies in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.et erant semper in templo, laudantes et benedicentes Deum. Amen.
