Going over all Galilee with his train, 4. he preacheth to the Jews in parables because of their reprobation, 9. but to his Disciples manifestly; because he will not for the Jews' incredulity have his coming frustrate: 19. signifying also that we are his kin (though we be Gentiles) and not his carnal brethren the Jews. 22. To whom also (signified by the Gerasens) after the tempest in his sleep (that is, in his death) & calm in his resurrection, he cometh: but they preferring their temporals before his presence, he leaveth them again, 41. Likewise coming to cure the Jews (who were born when the Gentiles sickened about Abraham's time) he is presented with the faith of the Gentiles, and then the Jews die, but them also in the end he will restore.Going ouer al Galilee with his traine, 4. he preacheth to the Iewes in parables because of their reprobation, 9. but to his Disciples manifestly; because he wil not for the Iewes incredulity haue his comming frustrate: 19. signifying also that we are his kinne (though we be Gentils) and not his carnal brethren the Iewes. 22. And it came to pass afterward, and he made his journey by cities and towns preaching and evangelizing the Kingdom of God; and the Twelve with him,AND it came to passe afterward, and he made his iourney by cities and townes preaching and euangelizing the Kingdom of God; and the Twelue with him,Et factum est deinceps, et ipse iter faciebat per civitates, et castella prædicans, et evangelizans regnum Dei : et duodecim cum illo,

²and certain women that had been cured of wicked Spirits and infirmities, Marie which is called Magdalene, out of whom seven Devils were gone forth,and certaine women that had been cured of wicked Spirits and infirmities, \* Marie which is called Magdalene, out of whom seuen Diuels were gone forth,et mulieres aliquæ, quæ erant curatæ a spiritibus malignis et infirmitatibus : Maria, quæ vocatur Magdalene, de qua septem dæmonia exierant,

³and Joanna the wife of Chusa Herod's Procuratorprocuratoris: steward, manager of the household, and Susanna, and many others that did minister unto him of their substance.and Ioane the wife of Chusa Herods Procuratour, and Susan, and many others that did minister vnto him of their substance.et Joanna uxor Chusæ procuratoris Herodis, et Susanna, et aliæ multæ, quæ ministrabant ei de facultatibus suis.

⁵The sower went forth to sow his seed. And whiles he soweth, some fell by the way side, and was trodden upon, and the fowls of the air did eat it.\* The sower went forth to sow his seed. ⁶And other some fell upnatum: sprung up, sproutedon the rock; and being shot up, it withered, because it had not moisture.And other some fel vpon the rocke; and being shot vp, it withered, because it had not moisture.Et aliud cecidit supra petram : et natum aruit, quia non habebat humorem.

⁷And other some fell among thorns, and the thorns growing up withalsimul: as well, too, not "with all", choked it.And othersome fel among thornes, and the thornes growing vp withal, choked it.Et aliud cecidit inter spinas, et simul exortæ spinæ suffocaverunt illud.

⁸And other some fell upon good ground; and being shot up, yielded fruit an hundredfold. Saying these things he cried: He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.And other some fel vpon good ground; and being shot vp, yeelded fruit an hundred fold. Saying these things he cried: He that hath eares to heare, let him heare.Et aliud cecidit in terram bonam : et ortum fecit fructum centuplum. Hæc dicens clamabat : Qui habet aures audiendi, audiat.

¹⁰To whom he said: To you it is given to know the mystery of the Kingdom of God; but to the rest in parables, that seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand.To whom he said: To you it is giuen to know the mysterie of the Kingdom of God; but to the rest in parables, \* that seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not vnderstand.Quibus ipse dixit : Vobis datum est nosse mysterium regni Dei, ceteris autem in parabolis : ut videntes non videant, et audientes non intelligant.

¹¹And the parable is this: The seed is the Word of God.And the parable is this: The seed is the Word of God.Est autem hæc parabola : Semen est verbum Dei.

¹²And they besides the way, are those that hear; then the Devil cometh, and taketh the Word out of their heart, lest believing they be saved.And they besides the way, are those that heare; then the Diuel commeth, and taketh the Word out of their hart, lest beleeuing they be saued.Qui autem secus viam, hi sunt qui audiunt : deinde venit diabolus, et tollit verbum de corde eorum, ne credentes salvi fiant.

¹³For they upon the rock, such as when they hear, with joy receive the Word: and these have no roots; because for a time they believe, and in time of temptation they revoltrecedunt: fall away, draw back.For they vpon the rocke, such as when they heare, with ioy receaue the Word: and these haue no rootes; because for a time they beleeue, and in time of tentation they reuolt.Nam qui supra petram, qui cum audierint, cum gaudio suscipiunt verbum : et hi radices non habent : qui ad tempus credunt, et in tempore tentationis recedunt.

¹⁴And that which fell into thorns, are they that have heard, and going their ways, are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and render not fruit.And that which fel into thornes, are they that haue heard, and going their waies, are choked of with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and render not fruit.Quod autem in spinas cecidit : hi sunt qui audierunt, et a sollicitudinibus, et divitiis, et voluptatibus vitæ euntes, suffocantur, et non referunt fructum.

¹⁵And that upon good ground, are they which in a good and very good heart, hearing the Word, do retain it, and yield fruit in patience.And that vpon good ground, are they which in a good and verie good hart, hearing the Word, doe retaine it, and yeeld fruit in patience.Quod autem in bonam terram : hi sunt qui in corde bono et optimo audientes verbum retinent, et fructum afferunt in patientia.

¹⁶And no man lighting a candle doth cover it with a vessel, or put it under a bed; but setteth it upon a candlestick, that they that enter in, may see the light.And no man lighting a candel doth couer it with a vessel, or put it vnder a bed; but setteth it vpon a candelsticke, that they that enter in, may see the light.Nemo autem lucernam accendens, operit eam vase, aut subtus lectum ponit : sed supra candelabrum ponit, ut intrantes videant lumen.

¹⁷For there is not any thing secret, that shall not be made manifest; nor hid, that shall not be known, & come abroad.For there is not any thing secret, that shal not be made manifest; nor hid, that shal not be knowen, & come abrode.Non est enim occultum, quod non manifestetur : nec absconditum, quod non cognoscatur, et in palam veniat.

¹⁸See therefore how you hear. For he that hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not, that also which he thinketh he hath, shall be taken away from him.See therefore how you heare. For he that hath, to him shal be giuen; and whosoeuer hath not, that also which he thinketh he hath, shal be taken away from him.Videte ergo quomodo audiatis ? Qui enim habet, dabitur illi : et quicumque non habet, etiam quod putat se habere, auferetur ab illo.

¹⁹And his mother and brethren came unto him; and they could not come at him for the multitude.And \* his mother and brethren came vnto him; and they could not come at him for the multitude.Venerunt autem ad illum mater et fratres ejus, et non poterant adire eum præ turba.

²⁰And it was told him: Thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desirous to see thee.And it was told him: Thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desirous to see thee.Et nuntiatum est illi : Mater tua et fratres tui stant foris, volentes te videre.

²¹Who answering said to them: My mother and my brethren, are they that hear the Word of God and do it.Who answering said to them: My mother and my brethren, are they that heare the Word of God and doe it.Qui respondens, dixit ad eos : Mater mea et fratres mei hi sunt, qui verbum Dei audiunt et faciunt.

²²And it came to pass one day; and he went up into a boat, and his Disciples, and he said to them: Let us strike over the lake. And they launched forth.\* And it came to passe one day; and he went vp into a boat, and his Disciples, and he said to them: Let vs strike ouer the lake. And they launched forth.Factum est autem in una dierum : et ipse ascendit in naviculam, et discipuli ejus, et ait ad illos : Transfretemus trans stagnum. Et ascenderunt.

²³And when they were sailing, he slept; and there fell a storm of wind into the lake, and they were filled, and were in danger.And when they were sailing, he slept; and there fel a storme of wind into the lake, and they c were filled, and were in danger.Et navigantibus illis, obdormivit, et descendit procella venti in stagnum, et complebantur, et periclitabantur.

²⁴And they came and raised him, saying: Master, we perish. But he rising, rebuked the wind and the tempest of water; and it ceased, and there was made a calm.And they came and raised him, saying: Maister, we perish. But he rising, rebuked the wind and the tempest of water; and it ceased, and there was made a calme.Accedentes autem suscitaverunt eum, dicentes : Præceptor, perimus. At ille surgens, increpavit ventum, et tempestatem aquæ, et cessavit : et facta est tranquillitas.

²⁵And he said to them: Where is your faith? Who fearing, marveled one to another, saying: Who is this (trowputas: think, suppose ye) that he commandeth both the winds and the sea, and they obey him?And he said to them: Where is your faith? Who fearing, marueiled one to an other, saying: Who is this (trow ye) that he commaundeth both the winds and the sea, and they obey him?Dixit autem illis : Ubi est fides vestra ? Qui timentes, mirati sunt ad invicem, dicentes : Quis putas hic est, quia et ventis, et mari imperat, et obediunt ei ?

²⁶And they sailed to the country of the Gerasens which is over against Galilee.\* And they sailed to the countrie of the Gerasens which is ouer against Galilee.Et navigaverunt ad regionem Gerasenorum, quæ est contra Galilæam.

²⁷And when he was come forth to the land, there met him a certain man that had a Devil now a very long time, and he did wear no clothes, neither did he tarrymanebat: stay, abide in house, but in the monumentsmonumentis: tombs, sepulchres, not memorial statues.And when he was come forth to the land, there met him a certaine man that had a Diuel now a very long time, and he did weare no clothes, neither did he tarie in house, but in the monuments.Et cum egressus esset ad terram, occurrit illi vir quidam, qui habebat dæmonium jam temporibus multis, et vestimento non induebatur, neque in domo manebat, sed in monumentis.

²⁸And as he saw Jesus, he fell down before him; and crying out with a great voice, he said: What is to me & thee Jesus son of God most high? I beseech thee do not torment me.And as he saw Iesvs, he fel downe before him; and crying out with a great voice, he said: What is to me & thee Iesvs sonne of God most high? I beseech thee doe not torment me.Is, ut vidit Jesum, procidit ante illum : et exclamans voce magna, dixit : Quid mihi et tibi est, Jesu Fili Dei Altissimi ? obsecro te, ne me torqueas.

²⁹For he commanded the unclean Spirit to go forth out of the man. For many times he caught him, and he was bound with chains, and kept with fetters; and breaking the bonds was driven of the Devil into the deserts.For he commaunded the vncleane Spirit to goe forth out of the man. For many times he caught him, and he was bound with chaines, and kept with fetters; and breaking the bonds was driuen of the Diuel into the deserts.Præcipiebat enim spiritui immundo ut exiret ab homine. Multis enim temporibus arripiebat illum, et vinciebatur catenis, et compedibus custoditus. Et ruptis vinculis agebatur a dæmonio in deserta.

³⁰And Jesus asked him, saying: What is thy name? But he said: Legion; because many Devils were entered into him.And Iesvs asked him, saying: What is thy name? But he said: Legion; because many Diuels were entred into him.Interrogavit autem illum Jesus, dicens : Quod tibi nomen est ? At ille dixit : Legio : quia intraverant dæmonia multa in eum.

³¹And they besought him that he would not command them to go into the depthabyssum: the abyss, the bottomless deep.And they besought him that he would not commaund them to goe into the depth.Et rogabant illum ne imperaret illis ut in abyssum irent.

³²And there was there a herd of many swine feeding on the mountain; & they desired him that he would permit them to enter into them. And he permitted them.And there was there a heard of many swine feeding on the mountaine; & they desired him that he would permit them to enter into them. And he permitted them.Erat autem ibi grex porcorum multorum pascentium in monte : et rogabant eum, ut permitteret eis in illos ingredi. Et permisit illis.

³³The Devils therefore went forth out of the man, and entered into the swine; and the herd with violence went headlong into the lake, and was stifledsuffocatus est: choked, drowned.The Diuels therefore went forth out of the man, and entred into the swine; and the heard with violence went headlong into the lake, and was stifled.Exierunt ergo dæmonia ab homine, et intraverunt in porcos : et impetu abiit grex per præceps in stagnum, et suffocatus est.

³⁴Whom when the swineherds saw done, they fled, & told it into the city and into the towns.Whom when the swineheards saw done, they fled, & told it into the citie and into the townes.Quod ut viderunt factum qui pascebant, fugerunt, et nuntiaverunt in civitatem et in villas.

³⁵And they went forth to see that which was done; and they came to Jesus, and found the man, out of whom the Devils were gone forth, sitting at his feet, clothed, and well in his wits, and they were afraid.And they went forth to see that which was done; and they came to Iesvs, and found the man, out of whom the Diuels were gone forth, sitting at his feet, clothed, and wel in his wits, and they were afraid.Exierunt autem videre quod factum est, et venerunt ad Jesum, et invenerunt hominem sedentem, a quo dæmonia exierant, vestitum ac sana mente, ad pedes ejus, et timuerunt.

³⁶And they also that had seen, told them how he had been made whole from the legion.And they also that had seen, told them how he had been made whole from the legion.Nuntiaverunt autem illis et qui viderant, quomodo sanus factus esset a legione :

³⁷And all the multitude of the country of the Gerasens besought him to depart from them; for they were taken with great fear. And he going up into the boat, returned.And al the multitude of the countrie of the Gerasens besought him to depart from them; for they were taken with great feare. And he going vp into the boat, returned.et rogaverunt illum omnis multitudo regionis Gerasenorum ut discederet ab ipsis : quia magno timore tenebantur. Ipse autem ascendens navim, reversus est.

³⁸And the man out of whom the Devils were departed, desired him that he might be with him. But Jesus dismissed him, saying:And the man out of whom the Diuels were departed, desired him that he might be with him. But Iesvs dismissed him, saying:Et rogabat illum vir, a quo dæmonia exierant, ut cum eo esset. Dimisit autem eum Jesus, dicens :

³⁹Return into thy house, and tell how great things God hath done to thee. And he went through the whole city, preaching how great things Jesus had done to him.Returne into thy house, and tel how great things God hath done to thee. And he went through the whole citie, preaching how great things Iesvs had done to him.Redi in domum tuam, et narra quanta tibi fecit Deus. Et abiit per universam civitatem, prædicans quanta illi fecisset Jesus.

⁴⁰And it came to pass; when Jesus was returned, the multitude received him. And all were expecting him.And it came to passe; when Iesvs was returned, the multitude receaued him. And al were expecting him.Factum est autem cum rediisset Jesus, excepit illum turba : erant enim omnes exspectantes eum.

⁴¹And behold there came a man whose name was Jairus, and he was Prince of the Synagogue: and he fell at the feet of Jesus, desiring him that he would enter into his house,And \* behold there came a man whose name was Iairus, and he was Prince of the Synagogue: and he fel at the feet of Iesvs, desiring him that he would enter into his house,Et ecce venit vir, cui nomen Jairus, et ipse princeps synagogæ erat : et cecidit ad pedes Jesu, rogans eum ut intraret in domum ejus,

⁴²because he had an only daughter almost twelve years old, and she was a dying. And it chanced, whiles he went, he was thronged of the multitudes.because he had an only daughter almost twelue yeares old, and she was a dying. And it chaunced, whiles he went, he was thronged of the multitudes.quia unica filia erat ei fere annorum duodecim, et hæc moriebatur. Et contigit, dum iret, a turba comprimebatur.

⁴³And there was a certain woman in a fluxfluxu sanguinis: a flowing, an issue of blood from twelve years past, which had bestowed all her substance upon Physicians, neither could she be cured of any:And there was a certaine woman in a fluxe of bloud from twelue yeares past, which had bestowed al her substance vpon Physicians, neither could she be cured of any:Et mulier quædam erat in fluxu sanguinis ab annis duodecim, quæ in medicos erogaverat omnem substantiam suam, nec ab ullo potuit curari :

⁴⁴she came behind him, and touched the hemfimbriam: the border or fringe of a garment of his garment; and forthwith the flux of her blood stintedstetit: stopped, ceased.she came behind him, and touched the hemme of his garment; and forthwith the fluxe of her bloud stinted.accessit retro, et tetigit fimbriam vestimenti ejus : et confestim stetit fluxus sanguinis ejus.

⁴⁵And Jesus said: Who is it that touched me? And all denying, Peter said, and they that were with him: Master, the multitudes throng and press thee, and dost thou say, Who touched me?And Iesvs said: Who is it that touched me? And al denying, Peter said, and they that were with him: Maister, the multitudes throng and presse thee, and doest thou say, Who touched me?Et ait Jesus : Quis est, qui me tetigit ? Negantibus autem omnibus, dixit Petrus, et qui cum illo erant : Præceptor, turbæ te comprimunt, et affligunt, et dicis : Quis me tetigit ?

⁴⁶And Jesus said: Some body hath touched me, for I know that there is virtuevirtutem: power, healing power, not moral goodness proceeded from me.And Iesvs said: Some bodie hath touched me, for I know that there is vertue proceeded from me.Et dicit Jesus : Tetigit me aliquis : nam ego novi virtutem de me exiisse.

⁴⁸But he said to her: Daughter, thy faith hath made thee safesalvam: saved, made whole, not merely unharmed, go thy way in peace.But he said to her: Daughter, thy faith hath made thee safe, goe thy way in peace.At ipse dixit ei : Filia, fides tua salvam te fecit : vade in pace.

⁴⁹As he was yet speaking, there cometh one to the Prince of the Synagogue, saying to him, That thy daughter is dead, trouble him not.As he was yet speaking, there commeth one to the Prince of the Synagogue, saying to him, That thy daughter is dead, trouble him not.Adhuc illo loquente, venit quidam ad principem synagogæ, dicens ei : Quia mortua est filia tua, noli vexare illum.

⁵⁰And Jesus hearing this word, answered the father of the maid: Fear not; believe only, and she shall be safe.And Iesvs hearing this word, answered the father of the maide: Feare not; beleeue only, and she shal be safe.Jesus autem, audito hoc verbo, respondit patri puellæ : Noli timere, crede tantum, et salva erit.

⁵¹And when he was come to the house, he permitted not any man to enter in with him, but Peter, and James, and John, and the father and mother of the maid.And when he was come to the house, he permitted not any man to enter in with him, but Peter, and Iames, and Iohn, and the father and mother of the maide.Et cum venisset domum, non permisit intrare secum quemquam, nisi Petrum, et Jacobum, et Joannem, et patrem, et matrem puellæ.

⁵²And all wept, and mourned for her. But he said: Weep not, the maid is not dead, but sleepeth.And al wept, and mourned for her. But he said: Weep not, the maide is not dead, but sleepeth.Flebant autem omnes, et plangebant illam. At ille dixit : Nolite flere : non est mortua puella, sed dormit.

⁵³And they derided him, knowing that she was dead.And they derided him, knowing that she was dead.Et deridebant eum, scientes quod mortua esset.

⁵⁴But he holding her hand cried saying: Maid arise.But he holding her hand cried saying: Maide arise.Ipse autem tenens manum ejus clamavit, dicens : Puella, surge.

⁵⁵And her spirit returned, and she rose incontinentcontinuo: immediately, at once, not lacking self-restraint. And he bade them give her to eat.And her spirit returned, and she rose incontinent. And he bade them giue her to eate.Et reversus est spiritus ejus, et surrexit continuo. Et jussit illi dari manducare.

⁵⁶And her parents were astonished, whom he commanded to tell no man that which was done.And her parentes were astonished, whom he commanded to tel no man that which was done.Et stupuerunt parentes ejus, quibus præcepit ne alicui dicerent quod factum erat.
