Annotationsfrom the original 1609 Douay Old Testament

8The law of our Lord is immaculate, converting souls. God's law in itself being most pure, and immaculate, is the proper means, whereby the Holy Ghost converteth souls from sins to justice. Not that every one is justified which readeth, heareth, or knoweth the law, but by keeping it, through grace of the Holy Ghost. Who is the author and worker of justice, by disposing the soul to cooperate in manner, partly here described: God's faithful and most true testimony, by his law, giveth wisdom, faith and knowledge to the humble, his right justices, comfort the hearts of the faithful, his close precept teacheth them their duty; his holy fear persevereth with them; his true judgments are most delectable, and desirable above all worldly riches or pleasures. So by these and like spiritual motives the soul freely desireth, accepteth, undertaketh, endureth, and by continual assistance of grace, observeth God's law; and so meriteth the great reward, which is promised for keeping it. v. 12. 2. Tim. 4. 7. 6.The law of our lord is immaculate, conuerting ſoules. Gods law in it ſelfe being moſt pure, and immaculate, is the proper meanes, wherby the Holie Ghoſt conuerteth ſoules from ſinnes to iuſtice. Not that euerie one is iuſtified which readeth, heareth, or knoweth the law, but by keping it, through grace of the Holie Ghoſt. VVho is the author and worker of iuſtice, by diſpoſing the ſoule to cooperate in maner, partly here deſcribed: Gods faithful and moſt true teſtimonie, by his law, geueth wiſdome, faith and knowlege to the humble, his right iuſtices, comfort the hartes of the faithful, his cloſe precept teacheth them their dutie; his holie feare perſeuereth with them; his true iudgements are moſt delectable, and deſiderable aboue al worldlie riches or pleaſures. So by theſe and like ſpiritual motiues the ſoule freely deſireth, accepteth, vndertaketh, endureth, and by continual aſſiſtance of grace, obſerueth Gods law; and ſo meriteth the great reward, which is promiſed for keping it. v. 12. 2. Tim. 4. 7. 6.

God converteth and justifieth souls instructing them by his law, and sweetly drawing their free cooperation by grace.
God conuerteth and iuſtifieth ſoules inſtructing thẽ by his law, and ſweetly drawing their free cooperation by grace.
