And Samuel took a little vessel of oil, and poured it upon his head, and kissed him, and said: Behold, our Lord hath anointed thee upon his inheritance to be prince, and thou shalt deliver his people out of the hands of their enemies, that are round about them. And this shall be a sign unto thee, that God hath anointed thee to be prince.AND Samuel tooke a litle vessel of oyle, and powred it vpon his head, and kissed him, and sayd: Behold, our Lord hath annointed thee vpon his inheritance to be prince, and thou shalt deliuer his people out of the handes of their enemies, that are round about them. And this shal be a signe vnto thee, that God hath annointed thee to be prince.

When thou shalt be departed from this day, thou shalt find two men beside the sepulchre of Rachel in the borders of Benjamin, in the South, and they shall say to thee: The asses are found, which thou didst go to seek: and thy father letting go the asses, is sollicitus: anxious, full of care, not attentive for you, and sayeth: What shall I do concerning my son? When thou shalt be departed from this day, thou shalt finde two men beside the sepulchre of Rachel in the borders of Beniamin, in the South, and they shal say to thee: The asses are found, which thou dist goe to seeke: and thy father letting goe the asses, is careful for you, and sayeth: What shal I doe concerning my sonne?Cum abieris hodie a me, invenies duos viros juxta sepulchrum Rachel in finibus Benjamin, in meridie : dicentque tibi : Inventæ sunt asinæ ad quas ieras perquirendas : et intermissis pater tuus asinis, sollicitus est pro vobis, et dicit : Quid faciam de filio meo ?

And when thou shalt depart thence, and pass farther, and shalt come to the oak Thabor, there men going up to God into Bethel shall find thee there, one carrying three kids, and an other three panes: small loaves of fine white bread of bread, and an other carrying a flagon of wine. And when thou shalt depart thence, and passe farther, and shalt come to the oke Thabor, there men going vp to God into Bethel shal finde thee there, one carying three kiddes, and an other three manchettes of bread, and an other carying a flagon of wine.

And when they have saluted thee, they will give thee two loaves, and thou shalt take them of their hand. And when they haue saluted thee, they wil geue thee two loaues, and thou shalt take them of their hand.

After these things thou shalt come into the hill of God, where the garrison of the Philisthiims is: and when thou shalt be entered into the city, thou shalt meet there a flock of prophets coming down from the excelso: the high place, the hill-shrine, and before them psaltery and timbrel, and tibia: a reed pipe, a wind instrument, and harp, and themselves prophesying,After these thinges thou shalt come into the hil of God, where the garrison of the Philisthiimes is: and when thou shalt be entered into the citie, thou shalt meete there a flocke of prophetes coming downe from the excelse, and before them psalterie and tymbrel, and shalme, and harpe, and themselues prophecying,Post hæc venies in collem Dei, ubi est statio Philisthinorum : et cum ingressus fueris ibi urbem, obvium habebis gregem prophetarum descendentium de excelso, et ante eos psalterium, et tympanum, et tibiam, et citharam, ipsosque prophetantes.

and the Spirit of our Lord shall seize upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be changed into an other man.and the Spirit of our Lord shal seaze vpon thee, and thou shalt prophecie with them, and shalt be changed into an other man.

Therefore when all these signs shall chance to thee, do whatsoever thy hand shall find, because our Lord is with thee.Therfore when al these signes shal chance to thee, doe whatsoeuer thy hand shal finde, because our Lord is with thee.Quando ergo evenerint signa hæc omnia tibi, fac quæcumque invenerit manus tua, quia Dominus tecum est.

And thou shalt go down before me into Galgala (for I will come down to thee) that thou mayest offer oblation, and immolate pacificas: peace (offerings) victims: seven days shalt thou expectabis: wait, await, not anticipate, till I come to thee, and I will shew thee what thou must do.And thou shalt goe downe before me into Galgala (for I wil come downe to thee) that thou mayest offer oblation, and immolate pacifique victimes: seuen daies shalt thou expect, til I come to thee, and I wil shew thee what thou must doe.

Therefore when he had turned away his shoulder to depart from Samuel, God changed unto him another heart, and all these things came in that day.Therfore when he had turned away his shoulder to depart from Samuel, God changed vnto him another hart, and al these thinges came in that day.Itaque cum avertisset humerum suum ut abiret a Samuele, immutavit ei Deus cor aliud, et venerunt omnia signa hæc in die illa.

And they came to the foresaid hill, and behold a troop of prophets meeting him: & the Spirit of our Lord seized upon him, and he prophesied in the midst of them. And they came to the foresaid hil, and behold a troupe of prophetes meeting him: & the Spirit of our Lord seased vpon him, and he prophecied in the middes of them.

And all that had known him yesterday and the day before, seeing that he was with the prophets, & did prophesy, said to each other: What thing hath happened to the son of Cis? what is Saul also among the prophets? And al that had knowen him yesterday and the day before, seing that he was with the prophetes, & did prophecie, said to ech other: What thing hath happened to the sonne of Cis? what is Saul also among the prophetes?

And one answered an other, saying: And who is their father? therefore it was turned into a proverb: What is Saul also among the prophets? And one answered an other, saying: And who is their father? therfore it was turned into a prouerbe: What is Saul also among the prophetes?

And he ceased to prophesy, and came to the excelse. And he ceased to prophecie, and came to the excelse.Cessavit autem prophetare, et venit ad excelsum.

And Saul's uncle said to him, and to his servant: Whither went you? who answered: To seek the asses: which when we had not found, we came to Samuel. And Sauls vncle sayd to him, and to his seruant: Whither went you? who answered: To seeke the asses: which when we had not found, we came to Samuel.

And his uncle said to him: Tell me what Samuel said to thee. And his vncle sayd to him: Tel me what Samuel sayd to thee.

And Saul said to his uncle: He told us that the asses were found. But concerning the word of the kingdom which Samuel had spoken to him, he told him not.And Saul sayd to his vncle: He told vs that the asses were found. But concerning the word of the kingdom which Samuel had spoken to him, he told him not.

And Samuel called together the people to our Lord in Masphath:And Samuel called together the people to our Lord in Masphat:Et convocavit Samuel populum ad Dominum in Maspha :

And said to the children of Israel: Thus sayeth our Lord the God of Israel: I brought Israel out of Egypt, and delivered you from the hand of the Egyptians, and from the hand of all the kings which afflicted you.And sayd to the children of Israel: Thus sayth our Lord the God of Israel: I brought Israel out of Ægypt, and deliuered you from the hand of the Ægyptians, and from the hand of al the kinges which afflicted you.et ait ad filios Israël : Hæc dicit Dominus Deus Israël : Ego eduxi Israël de Ægypto, et erui vos de manu Ægyptiorum, et de manu omnium regum qui affligebant vos.

But you this day have rejected your God, who only hath saved you out of all your evils and tribulations: and you have said: Not so: but appoint a king over us. Now therefore stand before our Lord by your tribes, and by your families. But you this day haue reiected your God, who only hath saued you out of al your euils and tribulations: and you haue said: Not so: but appoint a king ouer vs. Now therfore stand before our Lord by your tribes, and by your families.

And Samuel brought all the tribes of Israel, and the lot fell on the tribe of Benjamin. And Samuel brought al the tribes of Israel, and the lotte fel on the tribe of Beniamin.Et applicuit Samuel omnes tribus Israël, et cecidit sors tribus Benjamin.

And he brought the tribe of Benjamin and the kindreds thereof, and it fell upon the kindred of Metri, and it came unto Saul the son of Cis. They therefore sought him, and he was not found,And he brought the tribe of Beniamin and the kinreds thereof, and it fel vpon the kinred of Metri, and it came vnto Saul the sonne of Cis. They therfore sought him, and he was not found,Et applicuit tribum Benjamin et cognationes ejus, et cecidit cognatio Metri : et pervenit usque ad Saul filium Cis. Quæsierunt ergo eum, et non est inventus.

And after these things they consulted our Lord whether he would come thither. And our Lord answered: Behold he is hid at home. And after these thinges they consulted our Lord whether he would come thither. And our Lord answered: Behold he is hid at home.Et consuluerunt post hæc Dominum utrumnam venturus esset illuc. Responditque Dominus : Ecce absconditus est domi.

They ran therefore and took him from thence: and he stood in the midst of the people, and he was higher than all the people from the shoulder and upward. They ranne therefore and tooke him from thence: and he stood in the middes of the people, and he was higher then al the people from the shoulder and vpward.

And Samuel said to all the people: certe: certainly, surely you see whom our Lord hath chosen, that there is not the like to him in all the people. And all the people cried, and said: God save the King. And Samuel said to al the people: Certes you see whom our Lord hath chosen, that there is not the like to him in al the people. And al the people cried, and sayd: God saue the King.

And Samuel spake to the people the law of the kingdom, and wrote it in a book, and laid it up before our Lord: and Samuel dismissed all the people, every one into his own house. And Samuel spake to the people the law of the kingdom, and wrote it in a booke, and layd it vp before our Lord: and Samuel dismissed al the people, euerie one into his owne house.

But Saul also departed unto his house into Gabaa: and there went with him part of the army, they whose hearts God had touched. But Saul also departed vnto his house into Gabaa: and there went with him part of the armie, they whose hartes God had touched.

But the children of Belial said: What shall this fellow be able to save us? and they despised him, and brought him not presents: but he dissembled as though he heard not.But the children of Belial sayd: What shal this fellow be able to saue vs? and they despised him, and brought him not presentes: but he dissembled as though he heard not.Filii vero Belial dixerunt : Num salvare nos poterit iste ?
