THE PASSION according to S. Marke in these two chapters, is the Ghospel at Masse vpon Tuesday in the Holie weeke.

And the PaschPascha: the Passover, the paschal feast was, and the Azymesazyma: the feast of unleavened bread after two days: and the chief Priests and the Scribes sought how they might by some wiledolo: a crafty trick, stratagem lay hands on him, and kill him.AND the Pasche was, and the Azymes after two daies: and the cheefe Priests and the Scribes sought how they might by some wile lay hands on him, and kil him.Erat autem Pascha et azyma post biduum : et quærebant summi sacerdotes et scribæ quomodo eum dolo tenerent, et occiderent.

⁴But there were certain that had indignation within themselves, and said: Whereto is this waste of the ointment made?But there were certaine that had indignation within them selues, and said: Whereto is this wast of the ointment made?Erant autem quidam indigne ferentes intra semetipsos, et dicentes : Ut quid perditio ista unguenti facta est ?

⁵For this ointment might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and given to the poor. ⁷For the poor you have always with you, and when you will, you may do them good: but me you have not always.For the poore you haue alwaies with you, and when you wil, you may doe them good: but me you haue not alwaies.semper enim pauperes habetis vobiscum : et cum volueritis, potestis illis benefacere : me autem non semper habetis.

⁸That which she had, she hath done; she hath preventedprævenit: come before, anticipated; not "hindered" to anoint my body to the burial.That which she had, she hath done; she hath preuented to anoint my body to the burial.Quod habuit hæc, fecit : prævenit ungere corpus meum in sepulturam.

²²And whiles they were eating, Jesus took bread; and blessing brake, and gave to them, and said: Take, this is my body.And whiles they were eating, IESVS tooke bread; and blessing brake, and gaue to them, and said: Take, THIS IS MY BODY.Et manducantibus illis, accepit Jesus panem : et benedicens fregit, et dedit eis, et ait : Sumite, hoc est corpus meum.

²³And taking the chalice, giving thanks he gave to them. And they all drank of it.And taking the chalice, giuing thankes he gaue to them. And they al dranke of it.Et accepto calice, gratias agens dedit eis : et biberunt ex illo omnes.

²⁵Amen I say to you, that now I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until that day when I shall drink it new in the Kingdom of God.Amen I say to you, that now I wil not drinke of the fruit of the vine vntil that day when I shal drinke it new in the Kingdom of God.Amen dico vobis, quia jam non bibam de hoc genimine vitis usque in diem illum, cum illud bibam novum in regno Dei.

³⁰And Jesus saith to him: Amen I say to thee, that thou this day in this night, before the cock crow twice, shalt thrice deny me.And IESVS saith to him: Amen I say to thee, that thou this day in this night, before the cock crow twise, shalt thrise deny me.Et ait illi Jesus : Amen dico tibi, quia tu hodie in nocte hac, priusquam gallus vocem bis dederit, ter me es negaturus.

³¹But he spake more vehemently: Although I should die together with thee, I will not deny thee. And in like manner also said they all.But he spake more vehemently: Although I should die together with thee, I wil not denie thee. And in like maner also said they al.At ille amplius loquebatur : Et si oportuerit me simul commori tibi, non te negabo. Similiter autem et omnes dicebant.

³²And they come into a farm-place(in) prædium: a country estate, grange called Gethsemani. And he saith to his Disciples: Sit you here, until I pray.And they come into a farme-place called Gethsemani. ³³And he taketh Peter and James and John with him, and he began to fear and to be heavy(cœpit) tædere: oppressed with grief, weighed down; not weighty or drowsy.And he taketh Peter and Iames and Iohn with him, and he began to feare and to be heauy.Et assumit Petrum, et Jacobum, et Joannem secum : et cœpit pavere et tædere.

³⁴And he saith to them: My soul is sorrowful even unto death; stay here, and watch.And he saith to them: My soul is sorowful euen vnto death; stay here, and watch.Et ait illis : Tristis est anima mea usque ad mortem : sustinete hic, et vigilate.

³⁵And when he was gone forward a little, he fell flat upon the ground, and he prayed that if it might be, the hour might pass from him;And when he was gone forward a litle, he fel flat vpon the ground, and he prayed that if it might be, the houre might passe from him;Et cum processisset paululum, procidit super terram, et orabat ut, si fieri posset, transiret ab eo hora.

³⁶and he said: Abba, Father, all things are possible to thee, transfertransfer: archaic: remove, carry away this chalice from me, but not that which I will, but that which thou.and he said: Abba, Father, al things are possible to thee, transferre this chalice from me, but not that which I wil, but that which thou.Et dixit : Abba pater, omnia tibi possibilia sunt : transfer calicem hunc a me : sed non quod ego volo, sed quod tu.

³⁷And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping. And he saith to Peter: Simon, sleepest thou? couldst thou not watch one hour?And he commeth, and findeth them sleeping. And he saith to Peter: Simon, sleepest thou? couldst thou not watch one houre?Et venit, et invenit eos dormientes. Et ait Petro : Simon, dormis ? non potuisti una hora vigilare ?

³⁸Watch ye, and pray that you enter not into temptation. The Spirit indeed is prompt, but the flesh infirm.Watch ye, and pray that you enter not into temptation. ⁴⁰And returning, again he found them asleep (for their eyes were heavy) and they wist(ig)norabant: knew (past of "wit") not what they should answer him.And returning, againe he found them aslepe (for their eyes were heauy) and they wist not what they should answer him.Et reversus, denuo invenit eos dormientes (erant enim oculi eorum gravati), et ignorabant quid responderent ei.

⁴¹And he cometh the third time, and saith to them: Sleep ye now, and take rest. It sufficeth: the hour is come, behold the Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of sinners.And he commeth the third time, and saith to them: Sleepe ye now, and take rest. It sufficeth: the houre is come, behold the Sonne of man shal be betrayed into the hands of sinners.Et venit tertio, et ait illis : Dormite jam, et requiescite. Sufficit : venit hora : ecce Filius hominis tradetur in manus peccatorum.

⁴²Arise, let us go. Behold, he that shall betray me, is at hand.Arise, let vs goe. Behold, he that shal betray me, is at hand.Surgite, eamus : ecce qui me tradet, prope est.

⁴³And as he was yet speaking, cometh Judas Iscariot one of the Twelve, and with him a great multitude with swords and clubs, from the chief Priests and the Scribes and the Ancients.And as he was yet speaking, commeth Iudas Iscariote one of the Twelue, and with him a great multitude with swords and clubs, from the cheefe Priests and the Scribes and the Auncients.Et, adhuc eo loquente, venit Judas Iscariotes unus de duodecim, et cum eo turba multa cum gladiis et lignis, a summis sacerdotibus, et scribis, et senioribus.

⁴⁴And the betrayer of him had given them a sign, saying: Whomsoever I shall kiss, it is he; lay hold on him, and lead him warilycaute: cautiously, with care.And the betrayer of him had giuen them a signe, saying: Whomsoeuer I shal kisse, it is he; lay hold on him, and lead him warily.Dederat autem traditor ejus signum eis, dicens : Quemcumque osculatus fuero, ipse est, tenete eum, et ducite caute.

⁴⁵And when he was come, immediately going to him, he saith: Rabbi, and he kissed him.And when he was come, immediatly going to him, he saith: Rabbi, and he kissed him.Et cum venisset, statim accedens ad eum, ait : Ave Rabbi : et osculatus est eum.

⁴⁷And one certain man of the standers about drawing out a sword, smote the servant of the chief Priest, and cut off his ear.And one certaine man of the standers about drawing out a sword, smote the seruant of the cheefe Priest, and cut of his eare.Unus autem quidam de circumstantibus educens gladium, percussit servum summi sacerdotis, et amputavit illi auriculam.

⁴⁸And Jesus answering, said to them: As to a thief are you come out with swords and clubs to apprehend me?And IESVS answering, said to them: As to a theefe are you come out with swords and clubs to apprehend me?Et respondens Jesus, ait illis : Tamquam ad latronem existis cum gladiis et lignis comprehendere me ?

⁵¹And a certain young man followed him clothed with sindonsindone: a fine linen cloth upon the bare; and they took him.And a certaine yong man folowed him clothed with sindon vpon the bare; and they tooke him.Adolescens autem quidam sequebatur eum amictus sindone super nudo : et tenuerunt eum.

⁵²But he casting off the sindon, fled from them naked.But he casting of the sindon, fled from them naked.At ille rejecta sindone, nudus profugit ab eis.

⁵³And they brought Jesus to the chief Priest; and all the Priests and the Ancients and the Scribes assembled together.And they brought IESVS to the cheefe Priest; and al the Priests and the Auncients and the Scribes assembled together.Et adduxerunt Jesum ad summum sacerdotem : et convenerunt omnes sacerdotes, et scribæ, et seniores.

⁵⁴And Peter followed him afar off even in unto the court of the high Priest; and he sat with the servants at the fire, and warmed himself.And Peter folowed him a farre of euen in vnto the court of the high Priest; and he sate with the seruants at the fire, and warmed himself.Petrus autem a longe secutus est eum usque intro in atrium summi sacerdotis : et sedebat cum ministris ad ignem, et calefaciebat se.

⁵⁵And the chief Priests and all the Council sought testimony against Jesus, that they might put him to death, neither found they.And the cheefe Priests and al the Councel sought testimonie against IESVS, that they might put him to death, neither found they.Summi vero sacerdotes et omne concilium quærebant adversus Jesum testimonium ut eum morti traderent : nec inveniebant.

⁵⁶For many spake false witness against him; and the testimonies were not convenient.For many spake false witnes against him; and the testimonies were not conuenient.Multi enim testimonium falsum dicebant adversus eum : et convenientia testimonia non erant.

⁵⁷And certain rising up, bare false witness against him, saying:And certaine rising vp, bare false witnes against him, saying:Et quidam surgentes, falsum testimonium ferebant adversus eum, dicentes :

⁵⁸That we heard him say, I will dissolve this temple made with hand, and in three days will I build another not made with hand.That we heard him say, * I wil dissolue this temple made with hand, and in three daies wil I build an other not made with hand.Quoniam nos audivimus eum dicentem : Ego dissolvam templum hoc manu factum, et per triduum aliud non manu factum ædificabo.

⁵⁹And their testimony was not convenient.And their testimonie was not conuenient.Et non erat conveniens testimonium illorum.

⁶⁰And the high Priest rising up into the midst, asked Jesus, saying: Answerest thou nothing to these things that are objected to thee of these?And the high Priest rising vp into the middes, asked IESVS, saying: Answerest thou nothing to these things that are obiected to thee of these?Et exsurgens summus sacerdos in medium, interrogavit Jesum, dicens : Non respondes quidquam ad ea quæ tibi objiciuntur ab his ?

⁶¹But he held his peace and answered nothing. Again the high Priest asked him, and said to him: Art thou Christ the Son of the Blessed God?But he held his peace and answered nothing. Againe the high Priest asked him, and said to him: Art thou Christ the Sonne of the Blessed God?Ille autem tacebat, et nihil respondit. Rursum summus sacerdos interrogabat eum, et dixit ei : Tu es Christus Filius Dei benedicti ?

⁶²And Jesus said to him: I am. And you shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming with the clouds of Heaven.And IESVS said to him: I am. And you shal see the * Sonne of man sitting on the right hand of power, and comming with the clouds of Heauen.Jesus autem dixit illi : Ego sum : et videbitis Filium hominis sedentem a dextris virtutis Dei, et venientem cum nubibus cæli.

⁶³And the high Priest rentingscindens: rending, tearing; not leasing his garments, saith: What need we witnesses any further?And the high Priest renting his garments, saith: What need we witnesses any further?Summus autem sacerdos scindens vestimenta sua, ait : Quid adhuc desideramus testes ?

⁶⁴You have heard blasphemy. How think you? Who all condemned him to be guilty of death.You haue heard blasphemie. How thinke you? Who al condemned him to be guilty of death.Audistis blasphemiam : quid vobis videtur ? Qui omnes condemnaverunt eum esse reum mortis.

⁶⁵And certain began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to beat him with buffets, and to say to him, Prophesy; and the servants gave him blows.And certaine began to spit on him, and to couer his face, and to beat him with buffets, and to say to him, Prophecie; and the seruants gaue him blowes.Et cœperunt quidam conspuere eum, et velare faciem ejus, et colaphis eum cædere, et dicere ei : Prophetiza : et ministri alapis eum cædebant.

⁷¹But he began to curseanathematizare: to call down an anathema, here upon himself and to swear, That I know not this man whom you speak of.But he began to curse and to sweare, That I know not this man whom you speake of.Ille autem cœpit anathematizare et jurare : Quia nescio hominem istum, quem dicitis.

⁷²And immediately the cock crew again. And Peter remembered the word that Jesus had said unto him: Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt thrice deny me. And he began to weep.And immediatly the cock crew againe. And Peter remembred the word that IESVS had said vnto him: Before the cock crow twise, thou shalt thrise deny me. And he began to weep.Et statim gallus iterum cantavit. Et recordatus est Petrus verbi quod dixerat ei Jesus : Priusquam gallus cantet bis, ter me negabis. Et cœpit flere.
