The time to confirme them, he giueth them in his Transfiguration a sight of his glorie, wherevpon suffering doth bring, 9. and then againe doth insinuate his Passion 14. A Diuel also he casteth out, which his Disciples (vpon whom therefore the peruerse Scribes triumphed in his absence) could not, for lack of fasting and praying. 30. Being yet in Galilee, he reuealeth more about his Passion. 33. And (because in the way to Capharnaum they contended for the Primacie) he teacheth them that humilitie is the way to Primacie before God: 38. bidding them also, not to prohibit such as be not against them: nor to giue scandal to any one of the faithful: and on the other side, the faithful to auoid them by whom they may be scandalized and fal, be they neuer so neere vnto them.

And he said to them: Amen I say to you, that there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, until they see the Kingdom of God coming in power.AND he said to them: Amen I say to you, that there be some of them that stand here, which shal not tast of death, vntil they see the Kingdom of God comming in power.Et dicebat illis : Amen dico vobis, quia sunt quidam de hic stantibus, qui non gustabunt mortem donec videant regnum Dei veniens in virtute.

¹⁷And one of the multitude answering, said: Master, I have brought my son to thee, having a dumbmutum: mute, unable to speak (not stupid) Spirit.And one of the multitude answering, said: Maister, I haue brought my sonne to thee, hauing a dumme Spirit.Et respondens unus de turba, dixit : Magister, attuli filium meum ad te habentem spiritum mutum :

²⁰And they brought him. And when he had seen him, immediately the Spirit troubled him; and being thrown upon the ground, he tumbled foaming.And they brought him. ²⁴And incontinentcontinuo: immediately, straightway (not lacking self-control) the father of the boy crying out, with tears said: I do believe Lord; help my incredulityincredulitatem: unbelief, want of faith.And incontinent the father of the boy crying out, with teares said: I doe beleeue Lord; help my incredulitie.Et continuo exclamans pater pueri, cum lacrimis aiebat : Credo, Domine ; adjuva incredulitatem meam.

²⁵And when Jesus saw the People running together, he threatened the unclean Spirit, saying to him: Deaf and dumb Spirit, I command thee, go out of him, and enter not any more into him.And when IESVS saw the People running togeather, he threatned the vncleane Spirit, saying to him: Deafe and dumme Spirit, I command thee, goe out of him, and enter not any more into him.Et cum videret Jesus concurrentem turbam, comminatus est spiritui immundo, dicens illi : Surde et mute spiritus, ego præcipio tibi, exi ab eo : et amplius ne introëas in eum.

³⁵And sitting down, he called the Twelve, and saith to them: If any man will be first, he shall be last of all, and the ministerminister: servant, attendant (not a clergyman or official) of all.And sitting downe, he called the Twelue, and saith to them: If any man wil be first, he shal be last of al, and the minister of al.Et residens vocavit duodecim, et ait illis : Si quis vult primus esse, erit omnium novissimus, et omnium minister.

³⁷Whosoever shall receive one of such children in my name, receiveth me. And whosoeuer shal receaue me, receaueth not me, but him that sent me.Quisquis unum ex hujusmodi pueris receperit in nomine meo, me recipit : et quicumque me susceperit, non me suscipit, sed eum qui misit me.

³⁸John answered him, saying: Master we saw one casting out Devils in thy name, who followeth not us, and we prohibited him.* Iohn answered him, saying: Maister we saw one casting out Diuels in thy name, who foloweth not vs, and we prohibited him.Respondit illi Joannes, dicens : Magister, vidimus quemdam in nomine tuo ejicientem dæmonia, qui non sequitur nos, et prohibuimus eum.

³⁹But Jesus said: Do not prohibit him. For there is no man that doth a miracle in my name, and can soon speak ill of me.But IESVS said: Doe not prohibit him. For there is no man that doth a miracle in my name, and can soone speake il of me.Jesus autem ait : Nolite prohibere eum : nemo est enim qui faciat virtutem in nomine meo, et possit cito male loqui de me :

⁴⁰For he that is not against you, is for you.For he that is not against you, is for you.qui enim non est adversum vos, pro vobis est.

⁴¹For whosoever shall give you to drink a cup of water in my name, because you are Christ's, amen I say to you, he shall not lose his reward.For whosoeuer shal giue you to drinke a cup of water in my name, because you are Christs, amen I say to you, he shal not lose his reward.Quisquis enim potum dederit vobis calicem aquæ in nomine meo, quia Christi estis : amen dico vobis, non perdet mercedem suam.

⁴²And whosoever shall scandalizescandalizaverit: cause to sin, make to stumble (not merely to offend or shock) one of these little ones believing in me; it is good for him rather if a millstone were put about his neck, and he were cast into the sea.And whosoeuer shal scandalize one of these litle ones beleeuing in me; it is good for him rather if a milstone were put about his necke, and he were cast into the sea.Et quisquis scandalizaverit unum ex his pusillis credentibus in me : bonum est ei magis si circumdaretur mola asinaria collo ejus, et in mare mitteretur.

⁴³And if thy hand shall scandalize thee, cut it off. It is good for thee to enter into life, maimed, than having two hands to go into Hell, into the fire unquenchable,And if thy hand shal scandalize thee, cut it off. It is good for thee to enter into life, maimed, then hauing two hands to goe into Hel, into the fire vnquencheable,Et si scandalizaverit te manus tua, abscide illam : bonum est tibi debilem introire in vitam, quam duas manus habentem ire in gehennam, in ignem inextinguibilem,

⁴⁴where their worm dieth not, and the fire quencheth not.where their worme dieth not, and the fire quencheth not.ubi vermis eorum non moritur, et ignis non extinguitur.

⁴⁵And if thy foot scandalize thee, chop it off. It is good for thee to enter into life everlasting, lame, rather than having two feet, to be cast into the Hell of unquenchable fire,And if thy foot scandalize thee, chop it off. ⁴⁷And if thine eye scandalize thee, cast it out. It is good for thee with one eye to enter into the Kingdom of God, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into the Hell of fire,And if thine eye scandalize thee, cast it out. It is good for thee with one eye to enter into the Kingdom of God, rather then hauing two eyes, to be cast into the Hel of fire,Quod si oculus tuus scandalizat te, ejice eum : bonum est tibi luscum introire in regnum Dei, quam duos oculos habentem mitti in gehennam ignis,

⁴⁸where worm dieth not, and the fire quencheth not.where worme dieth not, and the fire quencheth not.ubi vermis eorum non moritur, et ignis non extinguitur.

⁴⁹For every one shall be salted with fire: and every victimvictima: a sacrificial offering (not a person who is harmed) shall be salted with salt.For euery one shal be salted with fire: and * euery victime shal be salted with salt.Omnis enim igne salietur, et omnis victima sale salietur.

⁵⁰Salt is good. But if the salt shall be unseasoned, wherewith will you season it? Have salt in you, and have peace among you.Salt is good. But if the salt shal be vnseasoned, wherwith wil you season it? Haue salt in you, and haue peace among you.Bonum est sal : quod si sal insulsum fuerit, in quo illud condietis ? Habete in vobis sal, et pacem habete inter vos.
