Therefore all the multitude crying out wept that night,THerfore al the multitude crying out wept that night,Igitur vociferans omnis turba flevit nocte illa,

3Would God we had died in Egypt: and in this vast wilderness would God we might die, and that our Lord would not bring us into this Land, lest we fall by the sword, and our wives and children be led captive. Is it not better to return into Egypt?Would God we had died in Ægypt: and in this vaste wildernesse would God we might die, and that our Lord would not bring vs into this Land, lest we fal by the sword, and our wiues and children be ledde captiue. 4And one said to another: Let us appoint a captain, and let us return into Egypt.And one said to an other: Let vs appoint a captaine, and let vs returne into Ægypt.Dixeruntque alter ad alterum : Constituamus nobis ducem, et revertamur in Ægyptum.

6But Josue the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephone, who themselves also had viewed the land, rent their garments,But Iosue the sonne of Nun, and Caleb the sonne of Iephone, who them selues also had viewed the land, rent their garmentes,At vero Josue filius Nun et Caleb filius Jephone, qui et ipsi lustraverant terram, sciderunt vestimenta sua,
7and spake to all the multitude of the children of Israel: The Land, which we have gone around, traversed · Vulgate: circuivimus, is very good.and spake to al the multitude of the children of Israel: The Land, which we haue circuted, is very good.et ad omnem multitudinem filiorum Israël locuti sunt : Terra, quam circuivimus, valde bona est.

11And our Lord said to Moyses: How long will this people speak against, disparage, not the modern sense of diminishing · Vulgate: detrahet me? How long will they not believe me in all the signs, that I have done before them?And our Lord said to Moyses: How long wil this people detract me? How long wil they not beleue me in al the signes, that I haue done before them?Et dixit Dominus ad Moysen : Usquequo detrahet mihi populus iste ? quousque non credent mihi, in omnibus signis quæ feci coram eis ?

14and the inhabitants of this Land, which have heard that thou Lord art among this people, and art seen face to face, and thy cloud protecteth them, and in a pillar of a cloud thou goest before them by day, and in a pillar of fire by night:and the inhabitants of this Land, which haue heard that thou Lord art among this people, and art sene face to face, and thy cloude protecteth them, and in a piller of a cloude thou goest before them by day, and in a piller of fire by night:et habitatores terræ hujus, qui audierunt quod tu, Domine, in populo isto sis, et facie videaris ad faciem, et nubes tua protegat illos, et in columna nubis præcedas eos per diem, et in columna ignis per noctem :

18The Lord is patient and full of mercy, taking away iniquity and wicked deeds, & leaving no man innocent, which visiteth the sins of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation.The Lord is patient and ful of mercie, taking away iniquitie and wicked deedes, & leauing no man innocent, which visiteth the sinnes of the fathers vpon the children vnto the third and fourth generation.Dominus patiens et multæ misericordiæ, auferens iniquitatem et scelera, nullumque innoxium derelinquens, qui visitas peccata patrum in filios in tertiam et quartam generationem.

25Because the Amalecite and the Chananite dwell in the valleys. To morrow remove the camp, and return into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea.Because the Amalecite and the Cananeite dwel in the valleis. 27How long doth this wicked, graceless, not merely "discourteous" · Vulgate: pessima multitude murmur against me? 29In this wilderness shall your carcasses lie. All you that are numbered from twenty years & upward, and have murmured against me,In this wildernesse shal your carcasses lie. 30you shall not enter into the Land, upon the which I have lifted up my hand to make you inhabit it, except Caleb the son of Jephone, and Josue the son of Nun.you shal not enter into the Land, vpon the which I haue lifted vp my hand to make you inhabite it, except Caleb the sonne of Iephone, and Iosue the sonne of Nun.non intrabitis terram, super quam levavi manum meam ut habitare vos facerem, præter Caleb filium Jephone, et Josue filium Nun.

And forty years you shall receive your iniquities, and shall know my revenge:according to the number of the fourtie daies, wherein you viewed the Land: a yeare shal be reputed for a day. 35for as I have spoken, so will I do to all this wicked multitude, that hath risen together against me: in this wilderness shall it fail, and die.for as I haue spoken, so wil I doe to al this wicked multitude, that hath risen togeather against me: in this wildernesse shal it faile, and die.quoniam sicut locutus sum, ita faciam omni multitudini huic pessimæ, quæ consurrexit adversum me : in solitudine hac deficiet, et morietur.
