Distinct offices are assigned to the families of Aaron, 15. of the elder sons of Caath, 21. of Gerson, 29. and of Merari. 34. And our Lord spake to Moyses, and Aaron, saying:ANd our Lord spake to Moyses, and Aaron, saying:Locutusque est Dominus ad Moysen et Aaron, dicens :

²Take the sum of the sons of Caath out of the midst of the Levites, by their houses and families,Take the summe of the sonnes of Caath out of the middes of the Leuites, by their houses and families,Tolle summam filiorum Caath de medio Levitarum per domos et familias suas,

³from the thirtieth year and upward, unto the fiftieth year, of all that go in to stand and to minister in the tabernacle of covenant.from the thirtith yeare & vpward, vnto the fiftith yeare, of al that goe in to stand and to minister in the tabernacle of couenant.a trigesimo anno et supra, usque ad quinquagesimum annum, omnium qui ingrediuntur ut stent et ministrent in tabernaculo fœderis.

⁴This is the service of the sons of Caath:This is the seruice of the sonnes of Caath:Hic est cultus filiorum Caath : tabernaculum fœderis, et Sanctum sanctorum

⁶and shall cover it again with a cover of ianthineviolet-coloured · Vulgate: janthinarum: of violet (skins) skins, and shall spread over it a cloth all of hyacintha blue-violet cloth or yarn, not the flower · Vulgate: hyacinthinum, and shall draw in the bars.and shal couer it agayne with a couer of Ianthine skinnes, and shal spread ouer it a cloth al of hyacinth, and shal draw in the barres.et operient rursum velamine janthinarum pellium, extendentque desuper pallium totum hyacinthinum, et inducent vectes.

⁷The table also of propositionthe shewbread set forth before the Lord, not a proposal · Vulgate: propositionis they shall wrap in a cloth of hyacinth, and shall put with it the censers and little mortars, the goblets and cups to pour the libamentsdrink-offerings poured out · Vulgate: liba: the breads shall be always on it:The tabel also of proposition they shal wrappe in a cloth of hiacinth, and shal put with it the censers and litle morters, the gobblettes and cuppes to powre the libamentes: the breades shal be alwayes on it:Mensam quoque propositionis involvent hyacinthino pallio, et ponent cum ea thuribula et mortariola, cyathos et crateras ad liba fundenda : panes semper in ea erunt :

⁸and they shall spread over it a cloth of scarlet, which again they shall cover with a veil of ianthine skins, and shall put in the bars.and they shal spread ouer it a cloth of scarlet, which againe they shal couer with a veile of ianthine skinnes, and shal put in the barres.extendentque desuper pallium coccineum, quod rursum operient velamento janthinarum pellium, et inducent vectes.

⁹They shall take also a cloth of hyacinth wherewith they shall cover the candlestick with the lamps and tongs thereof and snuffers and all the vessels of oil, which are necessary for the dressing of the lamps:They shal take also a cloth of hiacinth wherwith they shal couer the candlestick with the lampes and tongs therof and snuffers and al the vessels of oyle, which are necessarie for the dressing of the lampes:Sument et pallium hyacinthinum, quo operient candelabrum cum lucernis et forcipibus suis et emunctoriis et cunctis vasis olei, quæ ad concinnandas lucernas necessaria sunt :

¹⁰and over all they shall put a cover of ianthine skins, and put in the bars.and ouer al they shal put a couer of ianthine skinnes, and put in the barres.et super omnia ponent operimentum janthinarum pellium, et inducent vectes.

¹¹Moreover the golden altar also they shall wrap in a cloth of hyacinth, and shall spread over it a cover of ianthine skins, and put in the bars.Moreouer the golden altar also they shal wrappe in a cloth of hyacinth, and shal spreade ouer it a couer of ianthine skinnes, and put in the barres.Necnon et altare aureum involvent hyacinthino vestimento, et extendent desuper operimentum janthinarum pellium, inducentque vectes.

¹²All the vessel wherewith the ministration is done in the Sanctuary, they shall wrap in a cloth of hyacinth and shall spread over it a cover of ianthine skins, and put in bars.Al the vessel wherwith the ministration is done in the Sanctuarie, they shal wrappe in a cloth of hiacinth and shal spread ouer it a couer of ianthine skinnes, and put in barres.Omnia vasa, quibus ministratur in sanctuario, involvent hyacinthino pallio, et extendent desuper operimentum janthinarum pellium, inducentque vectes.

¹³But the altar also they shall make clean from the ashes, and shall wrap in it a purple cloth,But the altar also they shal make cleane from the ashes, and shal wrappe in it a purple cloth,Sed et altare mundabunt cinere, et involvent illud purpureo vestimento,

¹⁴and shall put with it all the vessel, that they use in the ministry thereof, that is to say, fire pans, fleshhooks and forks, pothooks and shovels. All the vessel of the altar together they shall cover with a veil of ianthine skins, and shall put in the bars.and shal put with it al the vessel, that they vse in the ministerie therof, that is to say, fire pannes, fleshhookes and forkes, pothookes and shouels. Al the vessel of the altar together they shal couer with a veile of ianthine skinnes, and shal put in the barres.ponentque cum eo omnia vasa, quibus in ministerio ejus utuntur, id est, ignium receptacula, fuscinulas ac tridentes, uncinos et batilla. Cuncta vasa altaris operient simul velamine janthinarum pellium, et inducent vectes.

¹⁵And when Aaron and his sons have wrapped up the Sanctuary and the vessel thereof in the removing of the camp, then shall the sons of Caath enter in to carry the things wrapped up: and they shall not touch the vessel of the Sanctuary, lest they die. These are the burdens of the sons of Caath in the tabernacle of covenant:And when Aaron & his sonnes haue wrapped vp the Sanctuarie and the vessel therof in the remouing of the campe, then shal the sonnes of Caath enter in to carie the thinges wrapped vp: and they shal not touch the vessel of the Sanctuarie, lest they die. These are the burdens of the sonnes of Caath in the tabernacle of couenant:Cumque involverint Aaron et filii ejus sanctuarium et omnia vasa ejus in commotione castrorum, tunc intrabunt filii Caath ut portent involuta : et non tangent vasa sanctuarii, ne moriantur. Ista sunt onera filiorum Caath in tabernaculo fœderis :

¹⁶over whom shall be Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, to whose charge pertaineth the oil to dress the lamps, and the incense of composition, and the sacrifice, that is always offered, and the oil of unctionanointing · Vulgate: unctionis, and whatsoever pertaineth to the service of the tabernacle, and of all the vessel, that are in the Sanctuary.ouer whom shal be Eleazar the sonne of Aaron the priest, to whose charge perteyneth the oyle to dresse the lampes, and the incense of composition, and the sacrifice, that is alwayes offered, and the oyle of vnction, and whatsoeuer perteyneth to the seruice of the tabernacle, and of al the vessel, that are in the Sanctuarie.super quos erit Eleazar filius Aaron sacerdotis, ad cujus curam pertinet oleum ad concinnandas lucernas, et compositionis incensum, et sacrificium, quod semper offertur, et oleum unctionis, et quidquid ad cultum tabernaculi pertinet, omniumque vasorum, quæ in sanctuario sunt.

¹⁹but do this to them, that they may live, and not die, if they touch Sancta sanctorumVulgate: Sancta sanctorum: the most holy things, the holy of holies. Aaron and his sons shall enter, and they shall dispose the charges of every one, and shall divide what every one must carry.but doe this to them, that they may liue, and not die, if they touch Sancta sanctorum. Aaron and his sonnes shal enter, and they shal dispose the charges of euerie one, and shal diuide what euerie one must carie.sed hoc facite eis, ut vivant, et non moriantur, si tetigerint Sancta sanctorum. Aaron et filii ejus intrabunt, ipsique disponent opera singulorum, et divident quid portare quis debeat.

²⁰Let others by no curiosityprying inquisitiveness, intrusive looking, not mere harmless interest · Vulgate: curiositate see the things that are in the Sanctuary before they be wrapped up, otherwise they shall die.Let others by no curiositie see the thinges that are in the Sanctuarie before they be wrapped vp, otherwise they shal die.Alii nulla curiositate videant quæ sunt in sanctuario priusquam involvantur, alioquin morientur.

²⁴This is the office of the family of the Gersonites,This is the office of the familie of the Gersonites,Hoc est officium familiæ Gersonitarum,

²⁵for to carry the curtains of the tabernacle, and the roof of the covenant the other cover, and over all the ianthine cover, and the hanging that hangeth in the entry of the tabernacle of covenant,for to carie the curtines of the tabernacle, and the roofe of the couenant the other couer, and ouer al the ianthine couer, and the hanging that hangeth in the entrie of the tabernacle of couenant,ut portent cortinas tabernaculi et tectum fœderis, operimentum aliud, et super omnia velamen janthinum tentoriumque quod pendet in introitu tabernaculi fœderis,

²⁶the curtains of the court, and the veil in the entry that is before the tabernacle. All things that pertain to the altar, the cords, and vessel of the ministry,the curtines of the court, and the veile in the entrie that is before the tabernacle. Al thinges that pertayne to the altar, the cordes, and vessel of the ministerie,cortinas atrii, et velum in introitu quod est ante tabernaculum. Omnia quæ ad altare pertinent, funiculos, et vasa ministerii,

²⁷shall the sons of Gerson carry, by the commandment of Aaron and his sons: and every one shall know to what burden they must be assigned.shal the sonnes of Gerson carie, by the commandment of Aaron & his sonnes: and euerie one shal knowe to what burden they must be assigned.jubente Aaron et filiis ejus, portabunt filii Gerson : et scient singuli cui debeant oneri mancipari.

²⁸This is the service of the family of the Gersonites in the tabernacle of covenant, and they shall be under the hand of Ithamar the son of Aaron the priest.This is the seruice of the familie of the Gersonites in the tabernacle of couenant, and they shal be vnder the hand of Ithamar the sonne of Aaron the priest.Hic est cultus familiæ Gersonitarum in tabernaculo fœderis, eruntque sub manu Ithamar filii Aaron sacerdotis.

²⁹The sons of Merari also by the families and houses of their fathers thou shalt reckon,The sonnes of Merari also by the families and houses of their fathers thou shalt recken,Filios quoque Merari per familias et domos patrum suorum recensebis,

³⁰from thirty years and upward, until fifty years, all that enter in to the office of their ministry, and to the service of the covenant of testimony.from thirtie yeares and vpward, vntil fiftie yeares, al that enter in to the office of their ministerie, and to the seruice of the couenant of testimonie.a triginta annis et supra, usque ad annos quinquaginta, omnes qui ingrediuntur ad officium ministerii sui et cultum fœderis testimonii.

³¹These are their burdens: They shall carry the boards of the tabernacle and the bars thereof, the pillars and the feet of them,These are their burdens: They shal carie the bordes of the tabernacle and the barres therof, the pillers and the feete of them,Hæc sunt onera eorum : portabunt tabulas tabernaculi et vectes ejus, columnas ac bases earum,

³²the pillars also of the court round about, with their feet and pinstent-pegs, stakes, not sewing pins · Vulgate: paxillis and cords. All the vessel and implements they shall receive by account, and so shall carry them.the pillers also of the court round about, with their feete and pinnes and cordes. Al the vessel and implementes they shal receiue by account, and so shal carie them.columnas quoque atrii per circuitum cum basibus et paxillis et funibus suis. Omnia vasa et supellectilem ad numerum accipient, sicque portabunt.

³⁴Moyses therefore and Aaron and the princes of the synagogue reckoned the sons of Caath, by their kindreds and houses of their fathers,Moyses therfore and Aaron and the princes of the synagogue reckned the sonnes of Caath, by their kinredes and houses of their fathers,Recensuerunt igitur Moyses et Aaron et principes synagogæ filios Caath per cognationes et domos patrum suorum,

³⁵from thirty years and upward, unto the fiftieth year, all that enter in to the ministry of the tabernacle of covenant:from thirtie yeares and vpward, vnto the fiftith yeare, al that enter in to the ministerie of the tabernacle of couenant:a triginta annis et supra, usque ad annum quinquagesimum, omnes qui ingrediuntur ad ministerium tabernaculi fœderis :

³⁶and they were found two thousand seven hundred fifty.and they were found two thousand seuen hundred fiftie.et inventi sunt duo millia septingenti quinquaginta.

³⁷This is the number of the people of Caath that enter into the tabernacle of covenant: these did Moyses and Aaron number according to the word of our Lord by the hand of Moyses.This is the number of the people of Caath that enter into the tabernacle of couenant: these did Moyses and Aaron number according to the word of our Lord by the hand of Moyses.Hic est numerus populi Caath qui intrant tabernaculum fœderis : hos numeravit Moyses et Aaron juxta sermonem Domini per manum Moysi.

³⁸The sons of Gerson also were numbered by the kindreds and houses of their fathers,The sonnes of Gerson also were numbered by the kinredes and houses of their fathers,Numerati sunt et filii Gerson per cognationes et domos patrum suorum,

³⁹from thirty years and upward, unto the fiftieth year, all that enter in to minister in the tabernacle of covenant:from thirtie yeares and vpward, vnto the fiftith yeare, al that enter in to minister in the tabernacle of couenant:a triginta annos et supra, usque ad quinquagesimum annum, omnes qui ingrediuntur ut ministrent in tabernaculo fœderis :

⁴⁰and they were found two thousand six hundred thirty.and they were found two thousand six hundred thirtie.et inventi sunt duo millia sexcenti triginta.

⁴³from thirty years and upward, unto the fiftieth year, all that enter in to accomplish the rites of the tabernacle of covenant:from thirtie yeares and vpward, vnto the fiftith yeare, al that enter in to accomplish the rites of the tabernacle of couenant:a triginta annis et supra, usque ad annum quinquagesimum, omnes qui ingrediuntur ad explendos ritus tabernaculi fœderis :

⁴⁴and they were found three thousand two hundred.and they were found three thousand two hundred.et inventi sunt tria millia ducenti.

⁴⁵this is the number of the sons of Merari, whom Moyses, and Aaron reckoned according to the commandment of our Lord by the hand of Moyses.this is the number of the sonnes of Merari, whom Moyses, and Aaron reckned according to the commandment of our Lord by the hand of Moyses.Hic est numerus filiorum Merari, quos recensuerunt Moyses et Aaron juxta imperium Domini per manum Moysi.

⁴⁶All that were reckoned of the Levites, and whom Moyses and Aaron and the princes of Israel took by name, by the kindreds and houses of their fathers,Al that were reckned of the Leuites, and whom Moyses and Aaron and the princes of Israel tooke by name, by the kinredes and houses of their fathers,Omnes qui recensiti sunt de Levitis, et quos recenseri fecit ad nomen Moyses et Aaron, et principes Israël per cognationes et domos patrum suorum,

⁴⁸were in all eight thousand five hundred eighty.were in al eight thousand fiue hundred eightie.fuerunt simul octo millia quingenti octoginta.
